My college student son is a mechanic himself, but is in the mechanical engineering program at FSU and hasn't got time, or a place, to work on his old truck at present.
The bottom line is the truck wasn't running right. It was making a wierd noise at higher speeds and vibrating more, so I suggested he take it to PCR for a check up. He also asked them to change out the valve cover gaskets due to a slight leak.
Long story short they did change out the valve cover gaskets and they did not get that right (pictured). Leaked 3 times worse onto my driveway. They "gave it a tune-up." They replaced the rear differential fluid (which wasn't asked of them) my son told them he was doing that himself. He had already purchased the gasket and fluid......and then charged him $590.
These guys are supposed to be racing mechanics. He came home complaining that the truck started backfiring the first time he cranked it up at PCR. Was running worse than when he dropped it off. I'm not a mechanic, but after he took me for a ride I could tell the motor wasn't firing on all 8 cylinders. We checked the compression and we had two dead cylinders. Definately a blown head gasket. He spent the next two days removing the head and getting it to the machine shop and replacing it.
He was able to come home after classes today and talk to the owner who did give him back $100. My son works hard for his money. The owner seemed like a fair person and I would hope he realizes that he's in the wrong here. The only thing my son got was a fluid change in the rear differential.....which PCR charges less than $200 for. A tune-up on a motor with a blown head gasket (no parts replaced). Oh, and one header gasket that probably wasn't an issue either. The 3 to 4 ADP was determined to be "additive" for the rear end. My son also re-replaced the valve cover gaskets.
It's sad that a well reviewed business will knowingly take advantage of a hard working young man. PCR should make this right. This should be embarrassing for talented race car builders.

I called around to a bunch of places in town to get my exhaust fixed, and I couldn't get anyone to do the exhaust because I have a mercedes. I'm not sure why that's an issue just fixing an exaust pipe. But the crew there were happy to fix it. Had it done exactly when they said it would be. It's a little pricey but had to be done. Not the cleanest welds I've ever seen, but it works and sounds great.

False advertising. My son was recommended to come here because of the age of his vehicle, 1982 El Camino. We brought it up a couple days ago after he called last week and was told to bring it in Monday or Tuesday. He was told to come back the next day and we brought it back yesterday morning (Wednesday). The oil leak is apparently a rear main which I was told when I picked up the car today that they don’t work on these. I also asked about the exhaust leak that he asked to have looked at, and he told us we would need to bring it back next Tuesday for him to look at that because apparently the last two days wasn’t enough time for him to look at it. And, of course, my son asked him to look his car over and the guy did not mention any of the other issues that we know about so we know he didn’t do any of that like he said either. Maybe it’s the fact that my 17-year-old son brought this vehicle to them while I sat in the car was the problem. I can’t imagine him treating an adult this way, nor checking anything he was suppose to and STILL being in business with the flipped attitude I was given even when I came to pick it up. Either way, they are not a complete repair shop. Take what you want out of the rest of our experience.

I'm always treated with respect. I never feel taken advantage of being a female. A lot of mechanics take advantage of females. Not here they explain everything that needs done even if I don't really understand ?. Very fair prices check them out. Support your local businesses.
