To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally request an urgent investigation into the care and discharge process concerning my mother-in-law, Mary Lou Pilous, a resident of Wellington, Florida. I am her medical power of attorney, and I reside in Canada.
Recently, I received a distressing call from Adult Protective Services regarding Mary Lou's condition. When I arrived unannounced at her home, I found her living in extremely poor conditions. She was bedridden, mixing up her medication, and her home was in a state of severe neglect, with animal waste and filth pervasive throughout. As a Canadian, I am unfamiliar with the insurance demands here, but I was deeply concerned about the state in which I found her.
Due to her condition, I took her to her general practitioner, who informed me that she had not been following up on her medical needs and recommended that she transition to assisted living or memory care due to her Alzheimer’s and dementia. Mary Lou also complained of severe back pain, and during this time, she experienced chest pain that was suspected to be a possible heart attack, prompting me to take her for immediate care. She was admitted to Palms West Medical Hospital.
During her stay, a psychiatric test was conducted, and I have documentation stating that she failed this test. Despite her condition and the suspicion of a heart attack, Mary Lou was discharged from the hospital without any notice to me and without any proper care arrangements being made. She has insurance and Medicaid through Humana, yet no appropriate measures were taken to ensure her well-being post-discharge. I was not informed of any subsequent psychiatric evaluations or the decision to release her. Mary Lou returned home, where she continues to live in unsafe conditions, leaving her vulnerable to further health complications and neglect.
I have been in communication with the Area of Aging and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) about Mary Lou's condition, but the hospital's failure to notify me and their decision to discharge her without proper support is deeply concerning. I am requesting an investigation into the decisions made by Palms West Medical Hospital and the care that Mary Lou is receiving.
It is imperative that appropriate steps are taken to ensure that Mary Lou receives the care she needs and that the cycle of neglect and poor care is broken.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I am available to provide any further information or documentation required.

Your reply is standard and she has my number we spoke many times prior to the discharge.
Shame on you all.
In the few weeks since her discharge, Mary Lou has called the police twice due to confusion and a lack of support, which has not only been distressing for her but has also disrupted local services and diverted crucial resources away from where they are needed in the community. Florida is in for a world of hurt as the community ages if hospitals like this one continue to neglect the needs of seniors.

I had a great experience here. My Dr ( Dr. Dai.) is absolutely amazing. I got induced here and due to complications with the baby I had to have a cesarean. Her and her team helped me feel better, as I was terrified of surgery lol The staff in the ob is beyond spectacular. Everyone was so kind, professional and so patient with me as I've never had surgery before or had a baby and helped me make sure everything would be okay and feel comfortable. After baby came they all helped me with any questions or concerns I had and treated me and my baby with the utmost care. They answered all questions I had no matter how dumb they sounded lol they made the experience so wonderful, definitely recommend to anyone having a baby to go here.

I recently had surgery there with a 1 night stay. The surgery department was wonderful. The 2nd floor staff was not. Upon entering my room, the nurse did the bare minimum assessment. If they had gotten close they may have noticed the cna had wrapped my catheter tubing inside of the leg compression cuffs. The next nurse shift also did not take a look. Nobody noticed they had not emptied my catheter bag, he even argued that the day shift had. They did not, it was nearly empty because it was being blocked. It took 6 1/2 hours for them check it or do anything about my pain. This is also how long it took to get any pain relief after leaving surgery’s care. I would never recommend being an inpatient there.

I currently have a love one who has been admitted to Palms West due to a sickle cell crisis. He is in extreme pain and has to call several times for pain medicine. It’s hard as a healthcare professional myself to see him being ignored by the ones tasked to care for him. This is not an isolated situation. When initially presented this to his nurse on 8/29/2024; the nurse apologized citing that she was assigned to 6 patients and that I should take the issue up with her manager- implying that the unit was understaffed. I followed up with speaking with manager- who basically said “that’s not like her”. Again, we were not looking to get the nurse in trouble. The matter is no one should be suffering in pain. Fast forward to today, THE SAME PROBLEM! Different nurse, same unit, same BS. It’s a shame, that I have to type this. I wouldn’t recommend leaving your love ones alone in this hospital.

Visiting the ER on Sunday with a bloody nose you couldn't control for 3 hours, when you were supposed to be a party, might not have been planned, but the PWH ED got me in and out quick and with exceptional care. Peyton was an amazing nurse who kept checking in often to make sure the bleeding was slowing down. Dr. Giroux was thorough and even took note of an ongoing sinus concern I was having, along with a 2-month cough, and prescribed me additional medications to finally get well. Hands down the cleanest, fastest, and most caring ER in the area. Thank you! 5 Stars!!

I had a family emergency. Called 3 north to speak with my family member, the unit clerk ( not Janice) said " we have no one by that name that works here n hung up. I called back recording the call(s) n was told the same thing. I asked to speak to a nurse n was told by the clerk "the nurses are busy, they don't have time to come to the phone. I called the operator thinking maybe I was calling the wrong floor , the operator asked for the staff's name n told me I was asking for the right floor and transferred me again. Yet recording my calls I was told by the clerk, I was threatening her and she was going to take actions against me n hung up the phone. I called back twice n nurse M n the clerk picked the phone up n hung it up, didn't even say hello. The unprofessional displayed is very concerning when they're in a position to take care of patients.

This is theee Worse hospital I’ve EVER been in my life. The nurses are so unprofessional and cold I just want to barf. First of all Show me a hospital that doesn’t care about their patients without saying they don’t care: HCA. Which hospital have you sit in the waiting room when you are in pain!!! (I was in EXCRUCIATING pain) and tell you they will give you the pain killers in the waiting room soon(which really means 1 hr) and guess where the nurse put me, in the waiting room… Did I say I was in pain? I don’t need to say more. I get very emotional when I speak. Now I’m scared to go to any other hospitals in Palm Beach County. I will never send my worse enemy there to treat a bruise let alone to get stitches
NO WAYYYYYY!!!????

Here at the hospital at the request of her physician. She needs FFP due to a bleeding disorder. Nurse comes in. Speaks another language on her phone while trying to set my daughter up. Gave her a problem when she reported that she is allergic to the glue on the stickies for heart monitor. When she said there are no hypoallergenic stickies, we suggested Benadryl. Nurse walked out after attempting to take the wheelchair that my daughter needs for transport. This place still has no clue about hemophilia and women. WTH
Dirty. Difficulty obtaining my daily meds. Light in ceiling blinks on and off. No monitoring of the cardio even though I was hooked up. Wrong pcp being faxed my private medical results. Night staff was amazing.
