I opened a savings account in late 2023. I was told I can just add money to the account as time went on. I was never told if I didn't add money continuously, the account would go dormant. I received two letters one week apart from each other. One dated for May 31, the other dated for June 7. Both stating my account has gone into deactivation and to visit the branch. It also stated that if I didn't reactivate my account, the government would claim the money within said account. I went in, and met with the branch manager. I told her my concerns about the letters I received, and said I wanted to just close the account. She rolled her eyes, and started the process. I filled out a form requesting to "reactivate" the account so they can then deactivate it. She said she sent the request, and said it would take a moment to be accepted. She then got on her phone and texted and twirled her hair. For 42 minutes I sat waiting. Twice within the waiting time I asked if I could come back after I ran a few errands. She said it shouldn't take much longer. Eventually the teller came over to check, clicked a few things on the managers computer, and somehow, within seconds, I was able to proceed closing the account. I went to withdrawal my money from the account, only to find out it was all gone because they charged me $10 a month for the past 6 months due to me not depositing money. I was never told that was how they operated. So I left with nothing after an hour of time wasted. I only had the account 6 months.
