Was a very pleasant experience. Dr. Gruszka was very professional, thorough and friendly. Will see her next year for my annual exam.

I was born with strabismus and have been made fun of for my eyes most of my life. I went to a few different offices to figure out my options for getting my eyes aligned. I’m so glad that I was referred to Dr. Byrd. I booked a consultation to get her opinion. She immediately made me feel comfortable. She told me that I was a perfect candidate for strabismus surgery. (I was told the opposite from another eye office. They shamed me and my mom for not having done something about it as a child. The recovery process was also exaggerated and made to sound really painful and scary.) Dr. Byrd explained the risks and eased my concerns about the recovery process. After now having the surgery, the recovery has been a piece of cake. Getting my wisdom teeth removed was worse. She even said if I decided to wait a few years to get this surgery, she would expect the results to be the same. I felt confident to go through with the procedure. On July 22, 2024 I had the surgery. The photo shows my eyes before the surgery and the results after as of August 2, 2024 (11 days post-surgery.) I am beyond grateful to Dr. Byrd and the staff for their kindness and compassion throughout this process. (as well as the Bardmoor Surgery Center staff)

Dr. Neel R. Desai did my cataract surgery and prk. I highly recommend him, I now have the best vision of my life. Also, he is one of the nicest doctors I have ever met and his direct team he works with does a fabulous job. They are all very professional and polite.

UPDATE: they called me and stated they made an error, apologized and refunded my money. Thank you. $450.00 for a contact fitting and I have insurance! I have been going to this practice for several years. I have health insurance that covers an annual eye exam. I also for the past three years, have gotten a prescription and my contact lenses at the eye Institute. This year they had me put in the contacts they prescribed for me last year and the doctor came in looked at them said they still fit well and charged me $450 for a contact fitting.

I have been a patient of The Eye Institute and have had awesome care from Dr. Martino and Dr. Talley and Dr. Roe. The staff have always been super helpful. However, I needed a new contact lens and called after 4 weeks to see where the lens was. I was told it would be in on Friday and someone would call to schedule when it arrived. I called the following Tuesday and was told the lens arrived and Victoria would have to schedule the appointment. She did not call back till Thursday. Now I am told that I have to wait 2 weeks to have an appointment to pick up this lens. This is terrible service to get a contact lens.

I came to the eye Institute a few months ago for a routine eye check. I made them very well aware that I had tumors on my optic nerves due to a condition I have. This is something I was already aware of and did not need or want treatment for. I just wanted a routine eye check. When the nurse came in, I made her aware as well. However, when Dr. Tally came in and I told him he said “that’s really rare with that condition” I told him I was aware of that but have records dating 27 years back as well as MRIs to prove it. He continued to run tests and then told me that I was lying and needed to go see a different eye doctor because there was something on my optic nerves…. Continue to test instead of just doing a routine eye exam like I asked for. A few weeks later, I was sent an outrageously large bill. When I called to ask about it and asked why I wasn’t just given a routine eye exam like I asked for I was told it’s because he needed to run test to figure out what was wrong with my eyes. This was something I was already aware of and knew exactly what was wrong so I am super upset about this. I have seen multiple eye doctors in my life and they have all been able to see it before; yet Dr. Tally “couldn’t figure out what it is.” And referred me to a different doctor… Even with documents from past doctors sitting in front of him. Of you need to see a doctor for pre-existing eye conditions, I would not recommend going to this office at all.

I had Lens Replacement with the Light Adjustable Lens which I highly recommend. I actually live in Oklahoma and had my surgery there. I was in town for vacation and I was boogie boarding and lost my special sunglasses that you need when you have light adjustable lenses. I called the Eye Institute of West Florida and they hooked me up with the special glasses so I could continue my trip without worrying about my eyes! Thanks so much!

The administrative staff isn't pleasant or helpful at all. They are like riding that high horse. Speacial needs, senior patients are unble to find a sitting place since all 60+ chairs are all alike. They don't have one single larger seat. Does Medicare not requires accomodation of all patients?

I could not recommend or refer anyone to Dr. Desai due to my observation between the doctor and the patient. This interaction left nothing to be desired. Upon the patient's request for clarification of procedures Dr. Desai became offended and defensive, not allowing the patient to complete his inquiry, speaking to the patient as a person below his intellectual level. In short Dr Desai was pompous, arrogant and rude. The patient was not challenging the doctor's credentials or skill but as a result of this experience has been left with doubt and confusion, no longer willing to use Dr. Desai's services. All other interactions with other personnel at this institution has not been negative and for the most part pleasant. Note I would not have given a 1 star rating because the system will not allow to post without selecting at least one star.

Hello -
I have gone to the Eye Institute of West Florida on Central in St. Petersburg for a number of years. They have met my basic eye-care needs very satisfactorily.
However, recently, I developed a quite visible and painful “thing” right on the perimeter of my eyelid. Reasonable self-care, such as compress, helped alleviate the pain short-term, but it did not alleviate the pain long-term or the problem itself.
I called Eye Institute to seek an appointment - they got me one, but not with my usual ophthalmologist and not in my usual office. So off I went, not in my comfort zone of surroundings, to have a stranger “mess with my eye.”
To say this was unnerving is absolutely a fair statement. We all kinda cringe when we are inviting someone to provide care to our more vulnerable parts.
Well, to make a long story short (I guess it is kinda too late for that ?), I was given a level of care that was professional, personal, and calming all at once!
For starters, I was greeted by Millie Torres. I am guessing she has a high empathy level. She engaged me in casual conversation while checking me in, getting my stats, and completing other initial processes; her kind demeanor eased my stress level significantly! What a perfect startup to this process that had me in knots beforehand.
Dr. Brandon Clair came in next to address the problem at hand - he explained clearly what my diagnosis was (combination of two issues). He then calmly went over treatment options, inviting me to make the best decision for me.
I chose the “more aggressive” option, completely relaxed about it - something that, had I known I advance would be required, would have had me even more on edge.
Millie then finished up and escorted me to checkout- so kind. In my whirlwind of unfamiliar activity, I managed to leave my favorite coffee cup at the office. I called back to ask Mila if it was there and if she could put it somewhere safe for me - she did, I got it back, and I am sipping coffee from it as I write this note!
Thank you Millie, thank you Dr. Clair, thank you Eye Institute of West Florida!

Stay as FAR away as you can. I have been dealing with the institute for 5 years now. They completed 2 surgeries and it has been an absolute nightmare dealing with this administration. Multiple admitted mistakes on their end that I am still dealing with. They have dropped the ball at pretty much every opportunity that they could. They admitted fault for everything and gave me a $100 Publix gift card "for all of my troubles". I could write a book about my terrible experience here.
