Spent $1600 to still feel guilted into not doing surgery on my 13 year old dog. was only after we told the vet that we googled that the prognosis with surgery was 6 months that she told us that was accurate. took my dog to my own vet the next day who reiterated there is no way he would recommend surgery and we had to put her down. almost two thousand dollars and 5 hours of hell to leave the same way we came in. at least I didn’t listen to them and got one last night with my girl.

When I arrived at almost 1 am, I was advised the wait wouldn’t be too long. After an hour of waiting in an exam room, no one advised me of anything. I went out and the doctor or nurse said they were in surgery, and it would be about another hour wait. The receptionist had no communication with me from the get go. Had I been informed of this at the beginning, I wouldn’t have stayed in an exam room for an hour. I left. Very disappointed. Communication is important.

They took great care of an emergency with our little Yorkie, who had a metal object lodged around her back tooth. Very communicative with the entire process. So comforting to know they are there 24/7.

Stellar service - 5 stars all the way. I was seeking a second opinion and an alternative to Blue Pearl Tampa for my terrier who has cardiac issues that became more severe recently. My experience was excellent - from making the appointment, to check in, initial discussion with the vet assistant, thoroughness of the exam, and then the patience and care taken to talk me through options and answer my questions. This is in stark contrast to Blue Pearl Tampa, with its chaotic communication, difficulty getting a printed prescription, inaccuracies/errors in billing, incorrectly written prescription on my last visit to Blue Pearl that had the frequency incorrect, and - most concerning - the arrogance of the physician and lack of patience to discuss options. Alex and Dr. Fauske are excellent communicators and my take is I am getting state of the art care for my dog at TBVS. I still plan to do a closer comparison of cost between TBVS and Blue Pearl, but my initial take is that TBVS is more reasonable. For example, Blue Pearl charges a separate fee to take a blood pressure. Taking a blood pressure is part of the office visit at TBVS. TBVS is mindful of cost and only orders the specific kidney function tests (not the entire $215 blood panel that Blue Pearl orders even when checking kidney function is the focus). I live about two miles from Blue Pearl and over 25 from TBVS, but it is and will be worth the drive. I feel more closely followed by TBVS. Their guidance is helpful about various scenarios to watch out for, education about and recommended app to take respiratory rate, and even guidance on lower salt dog food, plus a set up for the vet to take a quick look at your pet even when they are just in for blood work. My dog is possibly in the beginning stages of heart failure. Given the concerning prognosis, I now feel hopeful, cared for, and in command to give my dog the best quality of life for the time I have left with him.

My senior beagle was bitten on her ear by a rattlesnake the day before Hurricane Milton was set to arrive. I found her on my patio almost comatose, covered in drool and diarrhea. She had been inside the fenced backyard for no more than 30 minutes while I was prepping for the hurricane. TAMPA Bay Veterinary Specialists saved her life. Even though they were going to have to close their office later that evening, they were able to administer antivenin and stabilize her so she could be transferred to a critical care vet that had backup generators. This is the 2nd time this practice has saved my dogs' life and I am eternally indebted to them. They are very knowledgeable, kind, caring, accommodating, and were very good at keeping me informed. I highly recommend them.

Dr Tensley and the team here saved my cat’s life! We brought our five year old cat in through the emergency room on the recommendation of our primary vet when she stopped eating/drinking and had severe neurological signs. Dr Tensley (neurologist) and her team saw her the same day, recommended an MRI and diagnosed her with a brain abscess. After initial treatment there, Dr Tensley went above and beyond speaking to surgeons outside of the facility to find out where we should bring her for a very high risk surgery, which she was able to get less than a week later. She’s now thriving and completely back to normal! Thankful to have a great team of specialists so close to home at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists!

I had the pleasure of working with the oncology team at TBVS. Dr. Fernandez is kind, empathetic, and a fabulous veterinarian. You will not feel rushed or forced into anything with this team.
The oncology nurses are incredible, professional, and were able to see past my scared dog to see her amazing side - this isn’t always the case. The whole team went way above and beyond to make my scared dog comfortable and never made me feel bad about her being nervous. They take their time and treat your pet as an individual.
I’m so grateful to have worked with this team to develop a treatment plan that I was happy with for my senior cancer dog. We were able to complete electrochemotherapy and they were there every step of the way to give me confidence in our plan for my dog.
I highly recommend them to anyone whose dog is going through a cancer diagnosis - thank you to the oncology team for your top notch care and kindness!

Brought my puppy in that ingested part of a chlorine tablet by the pool while we were swimming one Saturday. Was at the office for 15mins and told to go home and wait it out. No one asked for any payment while I was in the office, then a week later, I received an invoice for $176! Of course, I understand they have a "service fee" but I was literally in their building for 15 mins, not given any meds or treatments at all. The office won't even consider, anything but the full charge. We are paying it, but won't ever go back to this office again. Why not say something to me about the minimum charge while I was at the office, it was almost like they avoided the conversation and then sent an invoice via email. I don't think this is a great way to run a practice, state your fees upfront when someone comes in with their pet, don't email an invoice with no description and just a total with threatening emails. Really?

We have had experiences with the orthopedic surgeon and opthalmologist in the past which were definitely five stars. We are currently working with Dr. Cook and JB on a sudden paralysis experienced by our cocker spaniel. We received three follow up calls the day after our first visit and have another visit scheduled today. Five star treatment all the way.

This is a great animal ER option. It's close and charge was reasonable. :)
