My wife and I dropped in today on a whim. I am so glad we did. Very rich history here. We really love Key West, and are now falling in love with it's history. There was no docent available but fortunately Tom was working the register. He went out of his way to give us information and history of the site. He had great stories and answered all of our questions. He made the visit absolutely awesome. I would definitely recommend this stop on your trip.

The house is relatively small, and the second floor is not open for viewing, but the stories and history packed into it make it well worth the visit. Some fascinating people lived and visited here. The back yard is also lovely. My tour guide was very friendly and engaging.

My husband is NOT a museum goer. We have visited Key West a dozen times and I always have passed by the Oldest House saying "next time". Do yourself a favor and just go. It is a pure gem of a museum amid the hustle and noise of Duval Street that has been lovingly preserved by the Old Island Restoration Foundation. The real gem here was our docent, Saud. What made the tour epic was Saud's passion and affection for the history of Key West. Not only was he knowledgeable and interesting to listen to, he was the nicest person ever! I had no idea that many of the buildings in Key West have been moved over the past 200 years - by mules - and this conch cottage is one of them. Even more fascinating is that it was home to a sea Captain, his wife, and their nine daughters!!! Eleven people in such small quarters with no air conditioning or modern conveniences - it really gives one pause and an appreciation for all we have now. The property has three buildings, the main house, the kitchen house, and the exhibit pavilion which face a garden with benches. Saud showed us around the gardens and shared great detail about the flora and fauna of Key West (turns out he is also a gardener - of course he is) and introduced us to Larry, the resident rooster and other birds who live in the gardens. Also fascinating to see are the works of art by Mario Sanchez, Key West's famous folk art wood carver. Did I mention my husband loved visiting the Oldest House? Thank you Saud for a wonderful tour and thank you John in the gift shop for being so accommodating and packaging our purchases with care.

Beautiful place to visit! Highly suggested you go here as the gardens are gorgeous. We actually had our wedding ceremony here in February of 2019 with around 30 guests and Matt and Andy were beyond helpful and kind! They made sure everything was perfect and it was! Cannot suggest visiting this place enough. Beautiful gardens, great museum and history and friendly help! Thank you guys!!!

What a beautiful home! The tour guide was extremely interesting with many great stories on the history of this venue. A separate cook house (cooking in this era was done in a separate cook house as opposed to in the home). No fees, except a donation jar. I recommend this stop!

Great place to stop in the heat of the day! The garden is lush, the trees are massive and instantly call on u to give thanks to Nature! They have nice clean bathrooms outside. And then there is the wonderful history about key west, the ship wrecking industry and the family who owned the oldest house in key west! Great photo opps w Mother Nature and a nice short tour inside w one of the awesome guides. Thank you! Plz feel free to donate $5, i did!

The docents were so lovely! I went by myself and Al took me around the house and I had a wonderful time learning about its history and had great conversation on top of it. $5 well spent to learn a little about the history of key West

NOT FREE, or worth the $5 admission fee. “Garden” is more like a nice backyard with one cool tree. It’s an old house... Tour guide seemed nice enough, but disoriented and emitted a bad odor.

It was gonna be 3 stars because it's just an old house in key west. But the guide was so nice and personable that it gets another star! It was a quick stop. Free. It killed some time and got us off the insanely busy street.

Very interesting, we didn’t regret to pass it. The man their was telling a lot of stories, and the place itself is interesting to see. How people lived that times. You start to feel it
