“Located pretty much on the corner of Route 1 and Duval Street, this place is in a great location. About a 7-10 minute walk to the waterfront area and other popular bars, this area is relatively quiet at night.
From the moment you walk into the front office, you can tell this place is well managed. Everything is clean, neat, and well-appointed. Every staff member we met always daid hello and was smiling.
The building is a typical 50s motor lodge layout, with the pool in the center and the rooms surrounding it, making almost every room pool side. The rooms aren't as big as one would find in a quality hotel, but enough space to feel comfortable. Our room was pristine. Everything appeared to be in like new condition and very clean. Quality soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotion were in pump bottles, at the sink, and in the shower. Also, in the room is a full-size ironing board, a large safe, kureig coffee machine, and refrigerator.
The continental breakfast is one of the best I've seen. Bagels, breads, English muffins, Danish, muffins, cold cuts, cheeses, fruit salad, as well as fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and a variety of juices. I'm sure I'm missing something, so much food!
The on-site martini bar is small, with maybe 6 stools at a curved bar. It seems to be a popular place, as it is packed with people every evening. We did get drinks one day while lounging poolside. They were definitely worth the price.
We will definitely return here if we travel back to Key West again. It's the little things that make this place great. White tablecloths on the outdoor tables for breakfast, putting candles on all the poolside tables as dusk, and the staff. Plenty of staff, always willing to answer a question or help if they can.

Rooms: On the smaller side, cozy. There's not much drawer space if you're looking to unpack for a week. A large wardrobe does have about a dozen wooden hangers.

Nearby activities: Nine Line coffee is right in front of the motel :). Numerous shops and restaurants are easily within walking distance, we never moved the car from its parking space.

Safety: Mostly, we went out during the day. Never did we feel unsafe walking around the area. The couple of times we went out a night, we were mostly on Duval Street and, again, did not feel unsafe.

Walkability: We walked everywhere, averaging about 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day.”

“We stayed here for only one night, but what a gem. I wish we could have stayed for longer. The pool, room, snacks and free happy hour from 4-5 are amazing. The coolers, ice machine and towels that are available would make any longer term stay simply amazing. We can't wait to come back!”

“The entire property is immaculate. We stayed in 306. The view of the pool and the Florida Strait is beautiful and calming. I sat on the patio whenever we weren't moving around or at the pool. Rooms are large. Breakfast is pretty good. Location is off the beaten path, yet a few minutes from all the fun. I didn't frequent the bar, but I heard no one complain. It's just so relaxing here. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. The Capitana has become one of my faves!”

“We recently had the pleasure of staying at Mansion on the Sea for our wedding weekend, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The property itself is absolutely stunning—perched right on the water with breathtaking ocean views that make you feel like you’re in paradise. The mansion is beautifully maintained, offering a perfect blend of luxury and comfort. Every corner of the place feels elegant yet cozy, making it easy to relax and enjoy.

What truly made the stay special, though, was the exceptional hospitality provided by our host, Nina. From the moment we arrived, Nina went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Her warm, friendly demeanor and attention to detail were unmatched. She was always available to answer any questions, offer recommendations for local activities, and ensure we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect.

The rooms were spacious, immaculate, and filled with thoughtful touches, from plush bedding to high-end amenities. Waking up to the sound of the waves and enjoying breakfast on the terrace with those incredible views was a highlight of the trip.

I cannot recommend Mansion on the Sea and Nina highly enough. If you’re looking for a luxurious and peaceful getaway by the ocean with top-notch service, this is the place to be! Thank you, Nina, for making our stay so memorable—we can’t wait to return!”

“We just spent a few days in key west and I love this hotel. Starting with the breakfast, it's a lovely continental breakfast with fresh crossiants and juice. Our room is small (twin queen beds) but very comfortable! The air conditioning is great here and we kept the room a chilly 68. The pool is beautiful, well maintained and clean. The beds are nice and cozy with plenty of pillows . It was nice and quiet, never heard any neighbors. I definitely recommend! It is close to Duval street, and my husband walked to the corner bodega and go delicious mojitos. There is a cvs across the street and a golf cart rental place right outside the hotel. All in all it was a great location!”

“My husband and I came to West winds for our first key west trip to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary and we couldn’t have asked for more. The West Winds grounds are just a hidden gem. If you are looking for modern, new style rooms, this isn’t it. The rooms are older, old AC units but don’t give up there! The rooms are kept COLD if you like. The DAILY turnover service is incredible and the bed is comfortable. The grounds of the inn are just magical and so well taken care of. Two pools, one heated. There is a continental breakfast in the cutest spot, poolside. Nothing fancy but just enough to give you the morning snack and a cup of coffee. Perfect!! On the corner there is a bakery with delicious options and then on the other corner is the bike rentals.

Don’t be turned off by the parking. My husband I were there 6 days and moved the car a few times and NEVER had an issue finding another spot! I could go on forever! This place was perfect and we can’t wait to come back ❤️”

The property is picture perfect for a wedding or any celebration party! Food is Devine and the staff are very efficient and almost invisible.

“The service was very, very friendly. We were super excited to get a room, which is very surprising during the moving season.

The room was very clean, the sheets were crisp, and we enjoyed our overnight stay. No mold, no dirt, I was happy.
We paid $143/night, which was unbeatable in Keywest for a CLEAN room WITH a kitchenette.
Yeah, the building is outdated, yep, no elevator, fortunately for us that didn't matter.”

“This was a wonderful hidden gem! We had a sisters weekend and were pleasantly surprised at how quite the place was and how close the location was to everything we wanted to do. The only other people there was the couple in the next cottage over, and we all sat at the pool together. Wish we could have stayed longer, I'd definitely like to come back next time!”

“Solange was very professional and understanding of the situation I was in when booking the place. She made the stay that much more enjoyable. We stayed in room 6. The bathroom
was designed a bit oddly as there was some sort of bath waterspout that you couldn't even use, and your feet would hit it when showering. The overhead shower seemed to be on the wrong wall in the shower. It was very uncomfortable to take a shower. The stairs going down to the hot tub area could've used a better hand railing. Everything was very clean. My only real request would be to add a small table with 2 chairs to each room to make it complete. Breakfast could have used a protein like sausage or bacon. Other than blueberry yogurt and boiled eggs, it was all bread, bagels and muffins. Staff should definitely make it very clear that you should drop off your luggage when checking in, so that you don't have to drag it 4-5 blocks down Duval and back to your room. I still give it a 4-star rating, because Solange truly was the most kind and professional person I've experienced in a long time. Give her a raise immediately.”

“Our family of 5 had an amazing stay at this Marriott property! Starting with our arrival, we waited a short time because our room wasn't ready. Mary Ann checked us in, took a beautiful family picture under the balloon arch, gave us a room upgrade and breakfast voucher because we had to wait. Tom at the concierge desk was also very helpful with restaurant and activity recommendations. The entire staff from housekeeping to the groundskeepers to the pool staff were all very friendly and professional. Our room was exceptionally clean, spacious and quiet. We had a balcony and saw some iguanas hanging out on the terracotta roof tiles. We loved this location because it's close enough to downtown Key West like a 10 minute drive, but far enough to avoid the crowds and noise. There is a Starbucks in the lobby with very friendly and efficient staff. It's also close to Publix grocery store, CVS, Beall's and other local stores. We'll definitely stay here again on our next trip to Key West!”

“The room was excellent, happy hour just what we needed after the trip. The location is wonderful, but parking in Key West is horrible. We found parking for $15 4 blocks away and were happy about it since cabana inn have limited parking space and much more expensive. Inn was great at the end.”

“The rooms were spacious and had a nice resort atmosphere.
The minus was that there were a lot of birds at breakfast.

The location has a nice view of the ocean, but I was disappointed that I couldn't walk to the beach.

Overall I'm satisfied!”

“we chose the spot for our 25th wedding anniversary and we’re amazed at the service from the moment we stepped in. I asked about an early check-in so they decided they would upgrade us. We had a beautiful overlooking the water with the living room fridge. Microwave was just for our seven day trip, we loved it and the bar was so sweet and helpful and all of the staff Daniel the manager at the front was so kind and helpful. I have nothing bad to say about anyone or anything. Anything I asked for housekeeping was amazing. Checking on us constantly again they really spoiled us. Thank you so much.

Food and drinks: The food was fantastic. We had shrimp breakfast there and the cocktails were just spot on.”

“Very charming, fun, whimsical property guaranteed to put you in a good mood! Staff is friendly and helpful, and the decor and vibe is definitely Havana with nice painted murals, festive colors, whimsical surprises everywhere, and Salsa music playing. There's a cool tiki hut area for weddings and events which is why I stopped in since I get inquiries for weddings here. LOVED the pool! There are bigger rooms available, but the ones I saw were small yet charming. Highly recommend you visit!

Rooms: Charming but some are a bit small.”

“Booked the room just as a place to sleep for the night after camping on Dry Tortugas. Was pleasantly surprised. Room was clean. Staff was friendly. Location close enough to everything I wanted/needed. I would stay here again.”

“We got really lucky with a good room (168, 2 queens, pull out sofa, pool view) and didn't have any of the issues with mold that other reviewers are describing and our AC worked fine. We had a BLAST! I stayed with my boyfriend and his friend and we were delighted to have free margaritas upon arrival, unlimited free waters, and a free shuttle to the downtown area. It was also very walkable to the beach. The pool had a few resident iguanas nearby, which for us was a HUGE plus as we love animals! The breakfast at the hotel was pretty decent and they were able to accommodate my gluten-free diet.

The only possible negatives are that the floors could have been slightly cleaner and the pull-out couch had a concerning amount of stains, so it's probably time that they replace those. Our friend was still fine with it though and the negatives definitely don't outweigh the positive. The hotel staff was the most accommodating I have EVER experienced. They held our bags for us before and after checkout, they were able to provide anything we needed like more towels, toilet paper, waters, directions, etc. We will definitely be back!”

“Pegasus Hotel, Key West: A Unique Stay with a Mixed Experience

During our recent vacation, we had the opportunity to stay at Pegasus Hotel in Key West. From the outside, the hotel presents itself as a typical small city establishment. As we entered through the main door from the bustling street, it almost felt like stepping into a small retail shop for a moment. The hotel appears to be housed in a heritage building, situated in a fantastic location where the lively energy of the city continues until the early hours of the morning.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a small but tidy reception area. However, our initial interaction left much to be desired. We were met by Lyuba, an individual whose demeanor was strikingly cold and unfriendly—almost as if we had encountered a prison guard rather than a hotel receptionist. Without any hint of a smile or a warm greeting, she curtly asked if we had a reservation. This unexpected and off-putting first impression certainly had us bracing for the worst as we made our way to our room.

To our pleasant surprise, the room exceeded our expectations. It was immaculately clean, with a lovely view overlooking the street. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and the linens were fresh, accompanied by a comfortable bed and clean towels. The only downside was the small bathroom, where the shower cubicle’s size caused water to splash out—a minor inconvenience, but worth noting.

As we headed out to explore the town, our perception of the hotel shifted once again when we encountered Natalia at the reception. Natalia is truly a breath of fresh air. Her warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine hospitality transformed our experience. She went above and beyond, sharing details about the hotel’s amenities and taking the time to discuss Key West’s dining scene. She even highlighted her favorite restaurants in a dining guide she provided, all while expressing her pride in having worked at Pegasus for nearly a decade. It’s rare to meet someone like Natalia—her passion for her work and her care for guests are exactly what make travelers want to return.

While our stay at Pegasus was a bit of a rollercoaster in terms of service, Natalia’s kindness and professionalism were the highlight. We hope that when we return, we’ll once again be welcomed by her warmth. As for Lyuba, perhaps her talents would be better suited elsewhere.”
