A year ago, we had our four kittens spayed and neutered on Tuesday/Wednesday. (These were the first kittens we had at that point.) In fact, Mandarin Vet kept the kittens overnight at no charge. Pumpkin was younger than the other three siblings, and Dr. Jones (not Dr. B) thought he was old enough to get neutered.
After two days including administering one small dose of Meloxicam (an off-label drug for cats) - as instructed, I noticed the younger one looked thin and had not eaten his dinner. I called Mandarin Vet after-hours Thursday evening and was told to take his temperature. Given it was increasing to nearly 103 degrees Fahrenheit (F), I was instructed to give him an ice bath (yes, with ice) for five minutes. It brought his temperature down to just under 100 degrees F and he “made biscuits.” I stayed up all night and kept him periodically on an ice pack, by which his temp slowly rose to 103 degrees F by Friday sun-up, when I noticed he just staring at his water bowl and not drinking. (I later realized his brain was scrambled.)
I was asked to bring him. As I left the office, I heard Dr. Jones tell a technician to give Pumpkin an ice bath until he shivered. (She later said she administered an antibiotic for infection.) I subsequently called that afternoon to check on him and was told he was sleeping. Dr. Jones took him home for observation on Saturday, and on Sunday morning she called me and told me he had passed away that preceding night.
Over the past year, I have asked numerous vets and techs if they ever heard of an ice bath for kittens or cats. No one has! In fact, if you are wondering why this is being posted now, it is because I’ve given the pain substantial time to subside but have also inquired many times about ice baths from a less emotional and more analytical point-of-view. The timing is also significant because we are getting Pumpkin’s perceived sibling Biscot (due to the striping/color) found nearly six months ago in our garden neutered today at a different veterinary practice which does not use Meloxicam.
Finally, to be clear, we were not charged for the Dr. Jones’ time over the weekend and was given a discount on the urn for his ashes. Having given it lots of thoughts since then, I am not sure why I was not told to go to an animal hospital when I first called and would NEVER advocate for Meloxicam and/or giving a kitten or cat an ice bath. This is all for your own consideration...

My husband and I recently starting bringing our dog to Dr. Jones, and we couldn't be more pleased with the care our girl has received. Dr. Jones is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, and takes the time to explain everything thoroughly. I am a worry wart when it comes to my pets and Dr. Jones will answer any question, concern, and any phone call. Her expertise and genuine concern for animals are evident in every interaction. She discovered our dog had a rare condition upon our first visit that my previous vet couldn’t diagnose. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for top-notch veterinary care!

I am so thankful for Mandarin Veterinary Clinic. They have helped our dog Trident get Shockwave therapy to heal his broken ulna.
Everyone is super kind and efficient.
Thanks so much.
We will be coming back here again, as soon as Trident gets his implant put back in his elbow.
Thank you

This clinic has helped our dog Trident. I'm so grateful to the wonderful staff and Doctor. They are 100% in every way, and are only concerned with how they can help your loved one, and will even talk you out of options that would not be helpful vs trying to get you to pay for things that other vets would charge you for.
10 Stars

I cannot express enough gratitude for the outstanding care Dr. Jones provided to my guinea pig. Their expertise and genuine compassion were evident from the moment we walked into the clinic. Their personalized attention and meticulous care shows a true commitment to the well-being of small animals. I am relieved and thankful to have found a vet who goes above and beyond for my furry friend. Highly recommend for anyone seeking exceptional care for their guinea pigs!

Thank you so much to Dr. Jones and the entire team at mandarin vet clinic for all of your help in taking care of my hamster Benni. Benni was ~2yrs and 3mo old, which is quite old for a little roborovski hamster- Dr. Jones did everything she could to give Benni a fighting chance, coming up with tiny medicines for my tiny guy. Everyone was very gentle with him and patient. Even though he was very small, they all cared for him just the same as any animal in need. I miss my Benni dearly now, but he was in wonderful hands with Dr. Jones and I couldn’t ask for a better experience. Thank you all again so very much- it means everything to have a team that cares. I thought I would share some pics of Benni from before he was sick so you can see his little angry face and roundness ??

This place charged us $1,200 to run tests on our 3-year-old pit mix and found nothing! -Now, my dog is just whimpering beside me in pain.. the vet and staff were very unprofessional, so disappointing.

After going to several different vets before finding somewhere we really loved we found ourselves at Mandarin Veterinary. The front office staff is kind and welcoming and they are great with scheduling. The office is always super clean and smells nice, and the wait is always reasonable. Drs Jones and Bernardo and their clinical staff are also top notch, these people have been angels on earth. They have done grooming, cared for my pets routine health issues and have helped us navigate more serious things that required a specialist. They explain everything, never have hidden fees, are upfront and realistic with all sides of care while remaining compassionate. The doctors even call personally to follow up with me and check on my pets. I really can’t say enough great things about mandarin vet clinic.
