Dr. Chandler 10/10
Vet tech team 10/10
Front office staff 1/10
The positives- Dr Chandler is an eye corrector/Shar Pei plastic surgeon extraordinaire! My consultation with him was great. He was amazing to explain and even draw out on paper the different techniques that he was considering for the eyelid correction (he ended up doing the Stades technique for all you curious Shar Pei owners out there). He was patient with all my questions and even called me back when I had more questions later on. The vet tech (I wish I could remember her name) was SO nice/helpful and even showed me pictures of previous Shar Pei surgeries to show me the dogs still looked like themselves and how the eyes could look after surgery. I felt so much better about everything after talking to them both. When it came to surgery day, everything was very fast and it seemed like my dog was well taken care of. The surgery was not cheap but it was worth it! As of 10/23/24, it’s been two weeks since my dog’s surgery and his entropion issues seem to have resolved so far and he looks and seems to feel great. He still has very heavy eyebrows but you can actually see his eyes now! I’ll include the before and after pictures.
The negatives- And here we come to the only negative… the front office staff. When my dog had his consultation appointment and we were waiting for final instructions in the lobby, I was forced to listen to the office staff talk very badly about a client who had just checked out. They called the client stupid and were laughing about how she didn’t listen to instructions. I was so appalled by the office staff’s behavior that I was tempted to never come back. Why would anyone want to go to a vet looking for help and trying to do the best for their pet only to be called stupid for not knowing what to do? The ONLY reason I decided to do the surgery at that clinic is because Dr Chandler and the vet techs were so amazing.
Fast forward to the day my dog needed to get his stitches taken out. My mom took my dog to the appointment as I am currently out of the country. The vet office requires that you park in front of the building at a parking space with a traffic cone and call inside to have staff come out to get you and your dog. My mom is aware of this as she dropped him off for surgery, picked him up, and was now completing the final appointment. Unfortunately, there was a car that was parked over the line in the only empty parking space with a traffic cone so instead of trying to find some way to squeeze into the space and get my dog out of the car, she had to find another open parking spot. She took my dog out of the car, put his cone of shame on, and went inside to check in with the office staff. The office staff asked her if she parked in a spot with a traffic cone and she was then instructed to go back outside, park in front of a traffic cone, and the office staff would “let them know” that my dog was here. My mom, who struggles lifting my dog but was willing to help because I’m gone, had to take my dog back outside, take the cone off, lift him back into the car, move the car 20ft to a parking space with a traffic cone that just opened up, have a vet tech immediately walk outside, take my dog back out out of the car, put the cone back on, and then walk back into the lobby with the vet tech… the lobby that she was JUST IN.
I am astounded that these women are employed now knowing that the previous negative review of them was not an isolated incident. The ONLY reason I would give them a 1 out of 10 is simply because they’ve answered the phone when I called and were able to schedule my dog’s surgery in the computer. Beyond that, they are absolutely a pitfall to that vet office and a terrible reflection on the company. I hope the “owner” that replies to some of these google reviews is, in fact, the owner and will do something about those women’s behavior or there’s a very real possibility they could cause the office to lose clients, if they haven’t already

UPDATE- 09/2024: My miniature dachshund is doing so well post-surgery, it's been a year and she is barking at the TV nonstop- her eye is doing great! The staff remembers myself as well as my dog for check-ups (note: whoever writes about the front office techs as being rude clearly has their own problems because that is NOT the case)- everyone is wonderful! Dr. Chandler has been monitoring Riley's other eye and recently I noticed the cataract in this one progressing. I called and got the tech on the phone, they looked-up the notes from her last appointment, read them back to me, and we both decided any unnecessary pain caused to my dog wasn't called for but told me to keep watch. You're not going to get specialized attention like this from a vet specialist at ANY office- even for humans! I'm calling back after the weekend is up as she seems to be showing uncomfortable signs now but I expect nothing less than another positive experience. What's different this time is we know what to expect from Dr. Chandler and his staff; we aren't worried, we know everything will go smoothly as our dog is in the best hands!
07/2023: The unbelievable attention that they offered to me and my dog is unmatched. A cataract developed basically overnight with my dog and I was both terrified and very scared- I called Animal Eye Clinic and within a day I had a same-week appointment. Fast-forward 1wk, after following their procedures to see if she was a good client for surgery, and Dr. Chandler got Riley in for surgery 2wks later! Not only did her surgery go very well, the entire staff at the office are extremely attentive- there is an emergency hotline available after-hours if you see any concerns with your pet- and they make absolutely sure you understand the process with all of the medications. They are all professional, kind, understanding, patient, and caring- everything you need to calm your anxiety! Go here for your pet!

It was pricey, but the staff was up front with the cost. I found it to be well worth it with the way Dr. Chandler and the rest of the staff treated my dog. They were friendly, thorough, and were able to help my dog with treatment today and a recovery plan.

We had a great experience with this team of professionals and they absolutely cared for our pet like he was the only patient they were seeing that day! Their care & consideration for our going blind fur baby was above & beyond!

Every person in this entire practice has been absolutely amazing patient and helpful through this scary time with my cat. Dr Chandler is highly talked about through a few different vets that I have went to about my cats eye issue. He performed
Entropion and superficial keratectomy surgery on my sweet boy. Did an absolute amazing job. I never felt rushed in any appointment with him and the Reception team is super sweet and quick with responding back with each of my constant questions. I will always be incredibly grateful to be introduced to this amazing practice. Cannot say enough good things about this team. thank you guys for all that you have done for us.

I visited the office this morning. Dr. Brown is amazing. He put me at ease and took care of my dog. His bedside manner was outstanding. As you know going to see a specialist is expensive plus the stress on my dog. I would highly recommend Dr. Brown, but I would not recommend the front office. The Dermatologist receptionist harasses clients for not opening the door for her. I was exiting the door after checking out. I was carrying my dog in my arms (carrying her like a baby); therefor, I had to use my body to open the door. The dermatologist receptionist and her colleague were right outside the door waiting for me to open the door for them...for them. I was struggling opening the door but they expected me to open for them; instead of them opening the door for me who is a client. When I barely got out the door, the receptionist complains to me about not opening the door for her. I was taken aback by the harassment and unprofessional behavior. Appalling behavior; unprofessional; and lacking cusOmer service.

Dr Chandler did an outstanding job. Our American Akita Ace had to have surgery on both eyes for entropion eyelids. He healed quickly, looks great now, and he's Much more comfortable! Thanks Again!

Receptionist was rude & dismissive (over the phone and in person lol)Came in on emergency with a large “hard to handle” German Shepherd, the vet tech with the red hair handled him like a champ in a kind manner, definitely knows what she’s doing. The doctor was amazing and truly looked out for my dogs best interest. He is healing wonderfully, delightful experience, very grateful for them.

Excellent experience at Animal Eye clinic yesterday. Had to transport a patient there from the practice I work at. Every employee was incredibly thorough and caring. Clean office. Detailed explanation and instructions upon discharge. An animal eye emergency is certainly scary but we are lucky to have a veterinary ophthalmologist here in Jacksonville - the list of services they provide is incredible!
