Terrible place!! ANIMAL CRUELTY!! These poor parrots are locked up in tiny cages in the heat. Kids screaming and poking at them ALL DAY. These parrots are so stressed and look distraught. PLEASE SAVE THESE SWEET ANIMALS from the cruel owner!!! I don’t want to give this store any star rating. Read other reviews as they say the same thing.

The store has about a dozen birds locked up in tiny cages in front of the store. The birds are being displayed and kids are trying to touch them and screaming at them. One bird was so stressed out that he was plucking out all of his feathers. This is inhumane and not okay- I reported it to the county. Will not shop here until the birds are re-homed. DO SOMETHING!!!!

If you want to spend your weekly food budget for a family of four, go purchase a few t-shirts at this shop. They attract visitors with a row of beautiful birds in cages out on the sidewalk. There is a well-written research paper on the NIH site (National Institute of Health) on keeping birds that states: "The housing provided for pet birds should meet the needs of birds of that species and allow good welfare, for example there should be no small cages but aviaries with space for each bird to exercise adequately, and social birds should be kept in social groups." These birds are never out of their cages, which is exactly what makes them dangerous and aggressive. (Signs on the cages warn patrons of this.) Exercise is not a luxury for a bird; it's a necessity. Not to mention that the loss of social interaction with other birds causes numerous behavior disorders. There are so many reasons for why this is wrong. Aren't people educated enough to know what a horrible practice this is? This is more than neglect; it's outright cruelty. Sun and Surf owners, this is shameful and you should not need even one more person to write a review like this for you to wake up. Holmes Beach, when will you step up and put an end to this?

The store has about half a dozen birds locked up in tiny cages in front of the store. The birds are being displayed and kids are trying to touch them and screaming at them. One bird was so stressed out that he was plucking out all of his feathers. This is inhumane and not okay- I reported it to the county. Will not shop here until the birds are re-homed. Extremely in-humane what they are doing to the birds! I saw one of the birds pulling every one of its feathers out one by one! It had no feathers on its bottom half of its body. I called to report the abuse!

The shop is known for its parrots that sit outside of the shop and, while some talk to you, most look stressed out if their lack of feathers is any indication. It’s a very chilly, windy day today and one bird, Antigua, is currently sitting in the corner of her cage shivering. Staff was informed but no one has bothered to check on the animal’s welfare since then.
Blatant animal neglect on display here and it’s saddening that Anna Maria Island chooses to allow this to continue.

A fun visit to kill half an hour on a hot day, fun and cheap little souvenirs and postcards, lots of comfortable clothes. Staff are sweet, birds out front are cool to look at.

Wish I could give zero stars for the blatant animal cruelty on display here. Saw another reviewer mention 'happiest birds'...yeah, when they've pecked off feathers on their front or are staring listlessly off into space, clear signs of 'happiness'.

The service is friendly and efficient. There is a little something for everyone in this store. I can't get past the sad life of the birds housed out front. I won't support this business until they figure out a way to release these beautiful creatures to sanctuaries. The birds don't deserve the constant harassment by ignorant tourists.

So sad what these people are doing to such beautiful birds. Living in a cage is not living at all. Come February 2024, a new USDA regulation will go into effect where space for flight will be required. Do NOT support this shop. Animal cruelty is a no, and their prices are outrageous anyways. They only sell popular brands like Life Is Good, which you can find online or in stores that don't confine innocent lives to just a small cage.
