“I always used to go to Hogtown reptiles when I’m In Gainesville, but yesterday I found out they closed down. Found Scales and Tales, decided to give them a shot. Just needed a feeder rat. The boy working was very kind and great at his job, but his coworker absolutely out shined him. She greeted me at the door, she walked around the store with me, she showed me where she sleeps under the counter when the boss isn’t there, she brought me toys, and even insisted I rub her belly. That cat needs a raise.”

Alachua“I'm never quite sure what the actual name of this business is. There's Soil Enrichment Products, and then there's Floyd's Organic Soils. Regardless of what you call them, they are out towards Alachua near Hauge. I found out about this small company while participating in a local gardening group. Most of their organic soul blends are peanut shell and manure based. They also have had mushroom compost and other types in the past. You can bring a pickup and pay by the yard, and if you're buying in large quantities they do have a small dump truck that will do deliveries in the area. For fertilization I prefer to go the organic route, which is why I went with this company. I've purchased a few yards of their soil for use in some raised beds. Everything I've planted in the soil has taken off without the addition of other fertilizers. Since it's been a while since I bought the soil, I have been adding my own compost and cycling in nitrogen fixing plants to replenish nutrients. It's nice having a provider of high quality organic soil in the area, but I wish it were just a tad bit less expensive (around $27-30 per yard).”
