I was referred to Dr H by another eye surgeon for a different problem. I was a patient of his for about 8-9 months. I never really liked many of the assistants because of their rude behavior and them not being very gentle during the testing phase before seeing Dr H but kept going because of him. I received a phone call last week on a Friday before my appointment on Monday telling me they couldn’t see me anymore because my insurance dropped them. The lady absolutely refused to even talk to me about my options of continuing to see Dr H and filing the claims myself. I hate to say never but I don’t ever see myself setting foot back in that office. Now I’m struggling to find another surgeon and hope nothing happens in the meantime.

I have been a patient of Dr. Christine Kay for several years. In a few words, Dr. Kay is an excellent retina specialist. I have received injections from 3 different specialists and Dr. Kay was the only one to administer them with the least amount of discomfort. When it became apparent that the injections were not working, Dr. Kay tried other forms of treatment and when we determined that my condition was not improving, Dr. Kay was open and willing to consider a second opinion from an outside specialist. Dr. Kay has identified the proper treatment and my condition has improved significantly. Dr. Kay has earned my trust. She is caring, cheerful, and pleasant.

With a diagnosis of AMD, I was referred to a physician at VRA. I was not familiar with the building, and without full vision in one eye, I could not find the building. There is no sign, and not even a building number over the entrance. Why the mystery? I made 4 u-turns in heavy traffic before accidentally finding the place by asking people crossing the parking lot. In the small waiting room, there is a loud over-large TV, which according to the staff cannot be turned off, even if no one wants it on. I was the only one there. When I finally saw an assistant, she did not know why I was there, although I had waited weeks for the appointment, and I had to explain everything. When the doctor came in, he implied that I had not made a favorable impression on the doctor who referred me to him, who is a friend of his but who allowed a series of mishaps in my care. For this, I am paying? He discounted the accident that caused my emergency, and made it seem as though the possibility of further vision loss was dire if I did not receive monthly injections. However, there was no discussion of options of medications, although there are several on the market. To me, it seems the adverse reactions and low benefits of most of these is not worth the fear, travel, cost (or TV exposure). I feel like I am getting into a chiropractor-like situation where your purpose in the office is the steady income you provide for no proven benefit, but instead personal harm, at the hands of someone who does not like me by way of gossip. Furthermore, there is no way to get a message to the doctor about options or anything else. All-in-all, a most uncomfortable and unfriendly place, and I don't trust the care.

I was in the process of moving to Gainesville when my retina detached. My doctor sent my paperwork to VRA and I was seen immediately by Dr. Parrott. The next day, Dr. H performed retina surgery. I required a few more surgeries by Dr. H, then Dr. Iyer. One weekend I had a question, and Dr. Kay called me on a Sunday. Always first class treatment from all the staff and every doctor. Even the surgery center staff is amazing! Everyone is always polite, courteous, and professional.

Unfortunately, I'm very sure it'll be apparent who I am, and it will affect future care, but I'm very frustrated with the care I received today. I went in today to follow up on something minor my normal eye doctor had noticed a month ago on an exam. That turned out to be benign, however I was told there was an issue near my retina that was immensely concerning and needed laser surgery to correct. It would only take five minutes, there wouldn't be any pain, and there was no concern for after care. After this, there was a very long period of silence while he entered notes. Nothing further was really said, and there wasn't really any empathy shown for someone who had come in for a routine scan and was going to now have laser correction. I was asked to "sign a consent". When I asked if I could read what was on it, the tech told me there was nothing, just a spot to sign. Bit of a red flag, but okay, off to the laser room. That same tech asked me which eye we were working on, and administered numbing drops that dripped down the inside of my eye and all the way into my mouth. The outer side of my eye did NOT get any numbing drops. When the doctor came in and I expressed concern about this, he said there was "numbing gel" on the lens he was using. The lens turns out to be a goopy cold plastic thing that gets plopped against my eyeball. When I asked repeatedly if that was going to be on there for five minutes, I was told I could always refuse the treatment. Then he told the tech in there that I was "anxious" and could he hold my head still while he did the procedure. It was then that it became evident to me I wasn't properly numbed. The first two thirds of my eye were fine. There was discomfort but it was okay. The outer third of my eye? It was like long fire-hot needles being used to scratch his name into the back of my eye, and I was acutely aware of it. This was not "no pain." I was told curtly to "imagine you're somewhere else" to help with the discomfort, and ended the procedure crying in pain. "Okay we'll see you in three to four months."In general, my discomfort was ignored, dismissed, and minimized. It's been several hours and my eye still hurts. My vision looks different, despite being assured this would have no effect. Please, next time someone expresses a concern --- and your tech backs them up! --- about not being numb enough, listen and add more drops.

I have been going to VRA for over 5 years. The staff is always friendly and caring. The doctors are excellent, and I am sure that Dr. Parrott is responsible for saving my vision. I highly recommend VRA!

My problem lies with the front desk. They have terrible customer service. I have requested several times for a referral bc I have moved. Dr.Roseman gave it but his front desk people will not send it and it’s very imperative that I get in quickly. They don’t care bc it’s not their personal eyes. They are very unreliable. They claim to have sent the fax I called and it was never sent. They claim they would send it again and call me but they lied and never called back nor sent the fax again. If the people at the front desk were better trained and did their jobs the office would be 4stars. My doctor was great but this day 3 of trying to get my much needed referral. If I could give them a zero I would.

Usually I would have given 5 stars . I bring my mom so that I can help her hear and understand and ask questions about her treatments. Dr Roseman was her Dr and was wonderful , extremely patient and kind. Since he’s retired we saw Dr Parrot and did not have the same care . I did not feel patience from him and at one point when I was trying to get him to help my mom feel comfortable he basically said her treatment was up to her if she wanted to continue which is not what I wanted at all! I wanted more explanation . At one point he looked at me and said you seem aggravated and said back to me that HE was aggravated . I didn’t feel cared for. We changed Drs immediately for her next appointment .

Dr h and his staff have always been very helpful and courteous. I have had nothing but the best treatment and honestly can't say enough good things about them. I've been coming here for quite a number of years (5 maybe? I don't remember) but I know the doctor has always taken the time to answer any questions or concerns I've had.

I had a torn retina. I waited too long to be seen after having black floaters. I created an emergency situation requiring surgery. My optometrist referred me on Monday. They squeezed me in andDr Kay sw me Monday. Then they squeezed me in everywhere else and I had surgery by Dr. Parrot Tuesday afternoon. I am very appreciative to everyone that helped me and made this possible. The staff at the surgery pavilion were great.
