I am in this wonderful store at least once a week, buying gear for Rock Climbing at RR Gorge and annually out in Moab, Utah. The people are knowledgeable and friendly = many of them now recognize me and say Hello to me by name. I'm a frequent patron of REI online, and always visit their store in JAX when I am over there for Climbing indoors. Now, with the Gainesville store open, I don't need to drive 1.5 hours to shop. Becoming a Member is a good deal, you get a Dividend equal to 10% of your annual purchases at the end of each year. For someone like me with "GAS" = Gear Acquisition Syndrome, that dividend is usually substantial. I bought a Patagonia down jacket with mine end of 2019!!! I wish they would let us bring our dogs into the stores again. We used to LOVE bringing our Aussie, Kiwi, with us.

I joined the REI Coop in Denver Colorado 30 years ago. I'm an avid bicyclist and until now, I've been a happy REI member. I took a bicycle wheel in to have it trued by this REI bike shop. It took them about 20 minutes to do the deed. The mechanic told me it wasn't perfect but it was "in spec." I was suspicious but hey... I was pleased to get it back so fast. I quickly paid him $30 and signed the mandatory "Release of Liability." When I took the wheel home and put it back on the bike, the wheel was still too crooked to ride. You could see it wobble from 20 foot away! I took the wheel back and was told that I had been given a "Spot True" and not a "Precision True." What?!? So now I had a "Spot Trued" wheel in need of a "Precision True" to be rideable? I let the Coop keep my $30 because the mechanic repeatedly claimed that a "Spot True" existed in his little fee book. It was the first time I saw him smile during the entire ordeal. But I turned down the manager's offer for a free "Precision Tune". Why? Because I no longer trusted the mechanics. Kudos to the manager for doing her best to make it right.

Laney was such a help today! I had a few questions regarding the sale going on and she walked me through the store to help me find what I was looking for. She also informed me about the lifetime membership & I decided to purchase it!

I recently made a trip to the REI in Gainseville, Florida. I was taking my younger siblings to buy all the starting hiking gear, boots, backpack, and more. Two exceptionally great employees helped us so much, Damien and Tori.Tori was patient, measured each of their feet, and kept the hiking boots coming for them to try on. We tried on hiking boots with and without ankle supports, trail runners, and camp sandals. Tori kept the shoes coming, but never made it overwhelming. She provided us with so much knowledge on the fit of each shoe type and how they should feel. She was awesome! We then went over to the backpacks where Damien (maybe Damen?) helped us fit backpacks. He provided great suggestions inquired about the use of the backpacks, fit the backpacks to each sibling. He made it such a fun process. We ended up going with his great suggestions for backpacks where he put weight into the bags helped my siblings adjust the fittings of the bags and everything. He was a wealth of knowledge on all things camping. He was awesome to work with as well.I just wanted to pass along how great these two employees were. They helped these new hikers feel comfortable and excited to get outdoors.

Amazon is cheaper.I thought you could return defective items before a year with the membership. I've never used this policy, though I've heard some people abuse it.I had some shoes that were quite good, start to tear on the side. Apparently, I paid too much for a shoe with zero actually guarantee.I would recommend trying on shoes in their store and going to amazon to purchase.

I had a fantastic experience tonight at the REI in Gainesville thanks to Rosie, Brad, and Eli. I purchased a pair of ON running shoes back in September that turned out to be defective. They were extremely helpful with the return and helped me pick out a new pair of running shoes after completing a gait analysis. I was so happy with my experience here I became an REI Co-Op Member on my way out! I highly recommend this membership to anyone who shops at REI as it pays for itself after spending just $300 in one year. I can't stress enough how helpful Rosie was. Thank you for the awesome experience I had with you guys tonight.

Every time I walk in this place I spend at least $50; it's kindof a problem. Great gear, knowledgeable and helpful salespeople. I also love that all employees have their pronouns on their vests. Also, they recently started carrying Firepot-brand backpacking meals. All vegan and a surprising amount of protein. I took home the Porcini Mushroom Risotto and will be giving it a try.
