For your own health, please stay away from this location until ongoing renovations are completed. Its prime location next to the university, a supermarket and numerous casual restaurants does not make up for its current state. It is so bad that one of the members of my group came down with respiratory congestion during her stay that prevented her from working the next day.Renovations cannot come soon enough at this location despite the staff trying to be their friendliest to compensate. Literally everything but the lobby is in a state of either disrepair or renovation. This is down to the smell of the rooms and hallways which seems to be a combination of disinfectant and mold. The rooms are clean otherwise, but have an aging mid-century vibe and inadequate ventilation.Normally, I don't mind underequipped exercise rooms but I stayed away from the one in this hotel for fear of inhaling dangerous particulates. The laundry room was functional but dilapidated. It was also poorly labeled as I had to ask for specific directions to find it. Once inside, I felt like I was doing laundry in a 3rd world country. The breakfast area was clean but felt like being in a prison as it had no windows. Thankfully the food was decent. My two day stay made me wonder why this hotel was allowed to operate while being renovated.

To say the rooms in this hotel are disgusting is an understatement.I arrived an hour early hoping to check in but was told I needed to wait until 3:00. Fair enough. At 3:00, still no room available so I sat in the lobby for 2 hours while numerous guests came to the front desk to report no water in the room, toilets wouldn’t flush, etc. They were told it was due to renovations on the top floors. Also, guests were warned that between the hours of 8AM and 8PM there would be loud jackhammering! Seriously? People come to their rooms to rest at a hotel. I felt sorry for the front desk employees, but they were very polite to every guest. I finally got a room at 3:30. We have stayed at this hotel dozens of times in the last 8 years. We knew it is old and has NEVER been updated. The room was just gross. Everything metal was rusted and the bathroom floor was stickier than a movie theater floor! I turned around and went back downstairs and told them I just couldn’t stay in that room. They didn’t even act surprised! After waiting another hour (and hearing numerous complaints from guests) I decided to give up the convenience of the location and try for another hotel. The front desk manager was very polite and made several calls to other hotels in the area, but they were all booked! Finally at 5:00, they were able to find a room. (I guess it is impossible for the cleaning service e to clean rooms without water so they were delayed). The manager walked me to my room to check make sure it was clean. The first room we went to was on the 3rd floor. As soon as the elevator opened, there was a revolting smell of mildew. The manager mentioned that the 3rd floor had flooded the previous week. When she opened the door to the 3rd floor toon, it smelled so offensive, she didn’t even let me in! We then went to a small room on the 4th floor. It was not as smelly so after 3 hours of waiting on a room, I agreed to stay there. There was nowhere to put luggage (no way I am putting on the nasty carpet). The sheer curtains had a nasty stain I don’t even want to think about what it could have been.As noted, the construction started at 8am. Drilling right about our room. Tiny black specks were falling from the ceiling onto the towels. It sounded like the ceiling tiles were the only thing between our ceiling and floor above (you could actually see light above in the cracks and we could hear the workers yelling). Why not close one end of the hotel at a time during construction, or better yet, just close it until completed??? Also, maybe designate one elevator for construction and the other for guests.Dust everywhere — walls, floors, etc.Only good thing was Savanna at the front desk and breakfast. Otherwise, AVOID this hotel!!!

Room wreaked of smoke and Ozone. Asked for a different room and waited for over an hour before they told me they couldn’t move me but would deep clean it. Came back and the room wasn’t touched. Ended up sick due to Ozone poisoning and all my clothes wreaked of smoke and ozone. Manager offered me a free breakfast which already came with my room. I highly recommend not staying hear.

I wish I could give zero to this horrible hotel. To start with I’m an IHG Elite loyal member and I travel a lot around the world and I stay in all different brands of IHG hotels and I never had such horrible experience!!The hotel itself is very poor in quality of rooms and the asset is overall outdated and depressive. However I only stay there due to location convenience next to University of Florida. I stayed there over 5 times between 22 and 23 1st half and the front desk team was polite. However, later around Sep and Nov 23 I found that they charged me twice for 2 stays I never had!!! I was never in Florida in Sep or Nov!!! I only learned from my CC bank account when I saw Holiday inn Gainsville charged me for 3 and 2 nights!!! They charged me around $600 for nights I never booked or stayed!!! I doubted if i maybe made reservations and didn’t cancel but when I checked my email I found No reservation confirmations from the hotel for these dates!!! So i called the hotel in November/December and told them what happened and asked them for a refund. The front desk person told me the accounting will look into it and call me. No one called so I called back in Dec, front desk said accounting is on leave!!! So I called back early Jan and I was handled by the rudest team I have ever seen in any hotel in my life!!! The lady was very provocative and she investigated me like a police officer instead of solving the problem, and she ended up the call by hanging up on me!!! I called again and spoke to her supervisor who was as horrible as her direct report!! She didn’t like that I was complaining about her employee and she kept telling me “I won’t allow you to speak bad about my employees”!!! I swear she said that!!! Can you believe it!!! I had to end the call before really losing my temper!!I submitted a complaint to IHG corporate through their CS line and they spoke to the hotel to ask them to make the refund, and guess what?? The hotel told them that they can’t refund me because I actually stayed in the hotel during these dates!!!!!!!!!!I was shocked!!! They claim I stayed in the hotel and they charged my card twice and I wasn’t even in Florida!!! Can you believe that?!!The IHG CS manager said the only way for me to get my money back is to file a dispute with my CC provider/bank because the hotel doesn’t wanna investigate it!!!In my 20 years of traveling around US and the world I never faced an incident like that!!!I was never charged for nights I never booked and I never saw a hotel that claims a guest has stayed while he never did!!!I have no idea how this hotel is given the IHG license!!!

Want to take this time to express the Great Customer service this hotel has. Assistant Manager Ms O, her positive spirit, communication skill and leadership is what this hotel needs. Clerks Sam, Dre and Steven are simply amazing helpful, Courteous. Jayson of your engineering team is one the most assertive and helpful you need more individuals with that experience at your hotel.Walkability: Most eatery is in walking distance and near the college

The only thing acceptable about this hotel currently is the location, which is right across the street from campus. It is in need of a complete update. From the lobby to the hallway to the room where we had to switch b/c it was unusable, it smelled/felt moldy. Everything is not only old and outdated, but rusty and felt put together by caulk and duct tape. I was appalled that they are allowed to welcome guests currently in the current state of the hotel. The rate should definitely be lower than what we paid during this time in February. Cannot recommend at all.

I would like to express my gratitude to Dre at the front desk. I forgot my Apple adapter for the US (mine is for the EU) at home, and as I arrived around 11 pm, there were no shops open at that time. The next day, while he was at the counter, he kindly lent me his charger so I could get some battery for the day. Apart from that, every other encounter with Dre was pleasant and welcoming.I also recommend to the hotel management the installation of international outlets, especially considering the ongoing renovations, to enhance the convenience for international travelers. Additionally, for sustainability reasons, I propose that if the booking is for one person, there is no real necessity to provide three sets of towels in the room.
