I recently had an incredibly frustrating experience with Thrifty Car Rental. After being charged unexpected additional fees, I reached out for clarity and was met with a dismissive response. They claimed it was my responsibility to catch these charges at the counter, brushing aside my concerns and basically saying it was ‘my fault’ for not scrutinizing every line on a contract they hastily presented.
Thrifty seems more interested in squeezing extra money from customers than providing transparency or support. The lack of accountability on their part is astounding, and their response showed zero willingness to consider my concerns. They’re apparently happy to take your money but not interested in addressing billing issues afterward. This kind of customer ‘service’ is appalling and something I won’t be dealing with again. I’ll be choosing a different rental company in the future—and recommending others do the same!

Received several texts and emails to “check-in online” but the program will not work. Now I’ve been waiting over an hour in line to check in while your rental car company has three employees on duty and 25 people in line. If only I had booked the refundable rate and I would cancel and go to one of the other options who have multiple employees working and ZERO line. My last time using Thrifty/Dollar.

They try to get as much money out of you as possible, they behave unprofessionally

Would give 0 stars if I could!!
Absolutely dismal experience with Thrifty Rental Car. They handed me a car with a key fob battery that died 24 hours after rental and then insisted I drive over half an hour through a storm during a tornado watch to swap it out. Completely irresponsible and dangerous, considering flooded roads. Zero concern for customer safety or convenience. Avoid at all costs unless you enjoy risking your life for a rental car swap.

Pre paid for a rental prior to trip to SW Florida. There was no line when arriving to the reception desk. The 2 ladies working were very nice and informational. Explained anything that I was confused or not briefed on regarding fees and such. They were clear about all instructions and guidelines of the agreement and how to return the vehicle. Upgraded me from a compact vehicle to a compact SUV and the vehicle was brand new and it was nice and clean full of gas! The deposit I had to put down since I didn’t want to use my credit card, was 500 or so. It was only 2 days and I had the deposit returned back to me. I saw some reviews and was skeptical, but it was a good exp for me for sure! Thanks for the business!

We were just at the counter, apparently the bleach blonde headed young lady doesn't like her job or we arrived at the wrong time. She was very condescending and passive aggressive. While the whole time appearing to be professional. People like her make your flying experience and coming to a new town unbearable. She was not helpful at all, she then offered us an electric car and couldn't even inform us as to where to charge it. Passive aggressive. Horrible

This is my first Google review, which is how bad this experience was. Their front desk makes the DMV look like all stars.

I'll try to keep it short and to the point. The service of every employee was a 5 star experience, from the ladies at the counter and vehicle checkout to the guy who accepted my return..
My current beef is with the compact rental being an EV... After explaining an EV was not what I wanted, I was told that's all that was available. But of course, I could upgrade to the next level for a gas vehicle. I chose to give the EV a shot, and that was a time-consuming mistake.
The car was a 2024 Kia Niro. I was given the name of an app to download to find charging stations (there were only 2, one by the airport, and one an hour past my destination. I used the plugshare app and found many more). After using half the vehicles charge on the first day, i searched for a charging station (also discovered no high-speed charging for this vehicle in the area). When I plugged it and saw it would take 4.5 hours to charge to 80%, I realized my huge mistake in taking this car. In all, i spent about $35.00 and 8 hours of sitting in the car over 4 days, just so i could return it with the same charge. Of course, I could return it with any amount of charge and pay them over double the charging rate for thwm to do it for me.
It would be a great rental if where you are staying has a charging station or a supercharger in the area (supposedly 45 minutes to go from 10% to 80%). As they say, buyer beware...

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I have never been scammed by a counter customer service person before, until now. I had prepaid for my rental vehicle, however when I picked up the rental, the counter customer service woman (#2226/FLFMY39 on 7/11/24 at 12:30pm) was trying to sell me additional coverage and to prepay for fuel. I specifically said that I do not want any upgrades, extra products/coverage, and would like to purchase my own gas. I explained to her that I have coverage through my own insurance. She took my credit card and explained the hold charge I would receive. When my credit card statement came in, I noticed I was charged an additional $260.11 for my rental. Getting ahold of this company to dispute the charge is virtually IMPOSSIBLE. It took three weeks for them to send me a receipt in which I saw that I agreed to purchase additional products; Loss Dmg Wvr, Fuel Option Accepted, Concession Fee Recovery. All of which I DID NOT ACCEPT. However, the woman who finalized my rental went ahead and added those options and then did NOT read them back over to me when I signed off. I specifically asked her to reread my terms as I could not find my glasses. I never saw anything in writing before I signed, because she verbally read the terms and left the extras out. Are these employees compensated extra for selling more products or something!? This is fraud! I rent a car every 3 months from RSW to visit my 95 yro grandmother to take her to appointments and run errands, but now I have to worry about being scammed. This woman should be terminated. She knew exactly what she was doing.

BEWARE! They'll do anything possible to sell you the "LIS" insurrance, which is NOT COMPULSORY. I wrote a complain directly to Thrufty, but...as you have to sign, the'll tell you that you accepted the additionnal insurrance. Liers and thieves. Never again.

Rent a car from here and it was shaking on the interstate. They refused to bring us a new car, we had to spend 3 hours going back to the airport to get a new car on our vacation. Horrible customer service.

I thoroughly enjoyed my rental with Thrifty at the RSW location. 10am and was served within 5 minutes, absolutely 0 pressure for insurance or add ons, but I wanted an upgrade and they helped me with all my requests left the garage with a lovely SUV!!! No surprise charges on my credit card. No hassle returning the car. I really think it depends on who serves you at the reservation center…

I have a vehicle booked but wanted to contact the agency at the airport but the prompts circle you around and around and never connect to anyone. Don't waste my time.

(Edit; would love to have a conversation with a real human being on the phone, still no response from customer service representative from email I received, DO NOT USE THRIFTY once your card is on file they will charge your card without any logical reasoning.) It’s been close to a month since I’ve returned my vehicle, 1 day later after the return i noticed a 450 dollar charge “lost keys”. I drove my rental car to the airport got out of the vehicle left the keys in the center console. Good luck trying to get in touch of someone to actually deal with the situation in real time, customer service with thrifty is non existent. If you have any issues you need to fill out a form online and hopefully you get a response in a timely manner which was not the case. Anyone who uses thrifty in fort Myers I recommend physically handing a high up your keys or recording the exchange, because they will charge you saying your keys were not returned. They also claim that after 24 hours of lost keys the money can’t be reimbursed if something did happen to work out in your favor what a joke.

Staff takes FOREVER to get you checked in, even when you’ve already done the mobile check in and have the car ready for you. They make you go through then hour long line of only two workers(if you’re lucky). Rent from another company. Thirty/Dollar has no time management skills
