I am a disabled Korean War veteran and my daughter and son in law traveled to Florida and rented a car through Expedia utilizing dollar car rental. It was a mid size, gas fuel SUV. When we arrived at the Fort Myers airport location of dollar, my son in law was told we rented an EV, which we would never do and didn’t do. We have the Expedia email showing what we rented.
Then he was told that there were no gas vehicles in stock, at which time he mentioned going to Hertz as he was a member for a long period of time. He was told that Hertz owns dollar. Even though he paid over 510 dollars online through Expedia and hertz charged their portion which was 416, he was now given a new bill for 689 dollars. This included a fake up charge to a gas vehicle which was what we paid for. We also had a new hold on our credit card for 889 dollars until the car is returned. Can’t get anyone in the phone to discuss this properly and my expectations are that we will get an email response saying they want to improve their service and hope this doesn’t prevent us from using the service in the future. We simply want to know what Dollar-Hertz whomever they are intends to charge us at return.
I fought for this country to be treated like a meaningless scab.

Tried to cancel online and it wouldn’t except reservation numbers! I called 800number and they said couldn’t cancel on phone . Will never rent from these idiots again ! Called credit card company to dispute charges and cancel charge ! This company is also Hertz. Stay clear of these idiots

This rental company is an absolute joke. We prepaid through Expedia booking with them on August 14th for August 17th-21st and paid right away getting charged $227.67. While we were on our trip we decided to stay 2 extra days so we needed to extend the rental car for JUST 2 more days. We called dollar rental car directly to extend it and the man on the phone insured us that to extend the rental car for 2 days the only extra charge in addition to what we already paid (227.67) would be $59. I asked him multiple times to make sure. We get home from our trip and realize we were charged for ONE WHOLE WEEK extra instead of 2 days, trying to call to figure this out has been an absolute nightmare. There’s absolutely no one to speak to to try and figure it out, they literally told me I have to go back to the location as I sit at home in New York. It’s sickening that these companies steal from people like this, and have not a care in the world. Believe what you read on here and stay far away from these car rental companies. Not worth the headache.

Local to Fort Myers who reserved a vehicle. Was notified that I needed a return flight to use my debit card. Manager refused to call a local store to try and help me remedy the situation. Poor poor customer service

Notated the crack in the windshield when we retrieved the car from the RSW airport pick up on 7/06. Barely used the car, we didn’t even have to refill with gas- that’s how little we used it. Drove it back to the lot around 5AM to board our flight 4 days later. Got our receipt saying $0 due. Now, after 1 month, we’re getting mail, email, and phone calls regarding a “collection”. They are charging us $800 for the windshield that we notated on the condition form at the time of pick up!!! They even have cameras all throughout the area but cannot prove it was already damaged. An abhorrent attempt at collections and completely unethical business practice!!!
Just called and waited 30 min on hold. Spoke to the representative for 2 minutes, she said she would have to transfer me to the location. A random person answered “hello” and said it was his cell phone. What a JOKE of a business!!

Cheap yes, also the car maintenance, dirty car when I spoke to the employee, he obviously didn't care, the main thing is that you leave the property. I asked for a child seat, but I had to take one otherwise he wouldn't let me go out. What is going on with these guys there…..just selling.
So we had booked several vehicles with other, better rental companies, so we got another one in the meantime. I'll never book a car there again.
At this business location there are 3 car rental companies in one building...so get an idea for yourself how long you have to wait if only 1 employee looks after them.

If I could rate this place Negative stars I would. Do not trust ANYTHING they say. They lie to your face and charge you without your knowledge. They tell you you will be charged a temporary “holding fee” then charge your card and never refund you. If you like your money being stolen from you, then this is your place. And good luck getting ahold of them!!

Renting a car is worse than buying a car with all the hidden fees and upselling that goes on. I begged my wife to try Turo on this trip, but she found a mid size car for the same time period for $30 less through Dollar.
Although the Turo car is clearly a nicer, more upscale model and you know exactly what you are getting, my wife did not trust the process and insisted on using a rental company at the airport. We reserved online and the price is $231 for a 4 day rental through Dollar.
Of course we arrive and there IS NO WAY DOLLAR WILL EVER IN A MILLION YEARS HONOR THE ONLINE AGREEMENT. Every time I mention the online agreement i show her and she just smiles like an idiot as if to say "dear man. You will never rent a car from us at that promised price!"
Long story short, we walk out of there with a bare bones Camry with the wheels all curbed, base radio, keyed ignition with a gigantic key and keychain that you can't remove. All for $296 plus a $200 deposit that is "supposed to be refunded".
I could go through the trouble of posting pics of all the contracts but I'm too frustrated with the whole experience to bother.
I can say we told the counter person that we were in town for a funeral, because she asked. But her manager just sat there behind her insisting on upselling us anyways. Really despicable.
Never ever ever ever ever ever again. I'm done with Dollar and all those rental counter crooks. Turo from now on for me

Please beware. Lack of transparency and hidden charges abound. They tell you one thing and ask you to sign another. Dont be surprised to see all their optional charges you verbally declined , to appear on the contract again. Very good reading glasses may be needed to go thru fine print! In reality $26 per day rental may cost you $69!
Aunt Beverly"s car offer, a barely running beater car, uber or anything else but this outfit!

Beware - do not rent from this fraudulent company. We were charged for fuel but we had returned the car with a full tank of gas. I have submitted the receipt of payment for gas as proof w/American Express who has opened a claim. Also in error my husband neglected to leave the FOB in the car but we returned it early the next morning. The attendant assured us it would be documented and taken off our bill. This has not happened and its impossible to speak or contact anyone at this location. I will never rent from them again as there are many other options that are responsive and honest.

Just picked up a car from Dollar in Ft. Myers. Heather was incredibly rude to me and my family. She swore in front of my small children, was combative, and threatened to cancel my reservation. I will not rent from this Dollar any more. I will be contacting Dollar corporate as my kids now know numerous new swear words. Disappointed is an understatement. I’d give 0 stars if it was an option.

We rented and paid through Expedia for a mid size SUV. When we left we were charged a $300 upgrade for a three year old Nissan Kick with 46K miles and a broken door lock. Called Expedia, they said we need to handle it in the branch. When we returned the car, the attendant said there were no additional charges and the pending charges should drop off. We were charged an additional $319 upgrade fee for a $179 rental. There is no way to contact a person to discuss it.

Renters Beware- Dollar advertises two versions of the "Managers Special", one called simply Managers Special and the other Managers Special Fully Electric. Even if you book the non-fully Electric, this is what they will tell you that you reserved (even if your agreement doesn't mention this possibility anywhere AND even gives you the option to prepay fuel!). Obviously they keep both advertised so they can collect more $ when you arrive and need to "upgrade" to a non-electric car. I was in Florida for two weeks for both business and leisure. Driving an electric car for that duration requires more planning than pulling up to a gas station- who really says yes to that on the spot? I'd imagine they're ripping people off daily with this misleading advertising and scam like practice.
