I do not recommend this place to anyone. Awful smell in the building, and the people who were there were very awkward. We left after seeing cockroaches in the room. As well as the showers having mold in them and on the shoeer curtains. All around an awful experience. ? booked under the person I was with.

This makes me really sad. Hoosville (formerly Everglades Hostel) has gone downhill significantly. I came here 8 years ago and was able to set up a tent and camp, make friends, and enjoy complimentary pancakes with fellow travelers, have wonderful conversations with unique people from all over and stay for a couple days comfortably on a budget. This time tent camping was no longer an option, we bought a room for $113/night it was a bunk style hostel room with the bare necessities, it was clean enough although there was a huge clump of hair in the shower but the vibe has totally changed. There were zero fellow travelers, seems everyone who was here was an elderly local who lived at the hostel. This gives it a completely different feeling. No more community feel, no more excitement about adventures in southern Florida, no more community breakfast, didn't feel like a hostel felt more like a monthly pay run down motel. The amount of smoking was also oppressive and could and infiltrated the inside. The backyard is still pretty, although things could use some love and attention- much is in disrepair. Cute rabbits and cats and sweet elements of some of its former magic but I feel the owner needs to decide if it's a hostel for travelers or a monthly motel because it makes a huge difference in comfort and interaction with other guests and the overall experience. In addition at $113 a night can no longer afford a multi day stay. Sadly won't be back.

The room was cleaned moments before we went in . However, the chemicals were so strong we couldn't breathe. No widows opened in the room and the air conditioner blows directly at the bed.One thin blanket and a sheet.... it was in the 40s.Smoke detector was hanging off the ceiling. We went to the car to get water only to discover our car was broken into.Lesson learned... at 5am we left. I was scared and angry. There was homeless sleeping on the couch at the front desk....52$ to stay there!!!!!Nononono.... it was a glorified homeless shelter. Also, I did not feel welcomed by anyone. I felt like we bothered them into cleaning a room at 7pm. Even though I reserved the room early afternoon. So much more to say but I'll stop here.Be careful

Most hostiles cater to hikers bikers and nomads. That is not the case for this. Caters to mostly groups and parties foreign Nationals. Nevertheless I still had a great stayNearby activities: Located near the bus station which will take you all the way down the keysWalkability: Several restaurants and convenience stores less than five night walk away

This is my first time returning to Hoosville Hostel after visiting there my first time in November 2019 when I covered the NASCAR race at Homestead Miami. I went for a weekend and ended up staying till covid hit in March of 2020. Once everything started closing down in Miami I decided it was time to go home. I went home and had to quarantine for two weeks ? it was great to return.

Let me just tell you how amazing this little place is!! my girlfriends were very skeptical, but I knew as soon as I walked up that I was in my element. I am a bit of a weirdo! So this place was perfect for me. The pool is a perfect temperature, especially for just the four of us hanging out. The treehouse was absolutely amazing but I do recommend wearing kneepads as my knees are all cut up. Lol! we had the library room which was extremely clean. Everyone on the property was super sweet! We even shared some bohemian stew with one of the local residence there. It was delicious and I even sucked a chicken side. The Mexican restaurant next-door is amazing! The bunny rabbits are adorable! And I could go on and on about the outdoor showers and how amazing they were at 7 AM. we were 20 minutes from snorkeling and John Pennekamp and Key Largo. We were 20 minutes from the blue Lagoon farm where we went. Cliff diving the next day. Whenever I go down south, I will never stay anywhere else again! I look forward to taking my son next month for his birthday!Rooms: We stayed in the library room that has two bunkbeds, and it was perfect for the four of us. Our shower was nice and hot and the whole room and bathroom was extremely clean!Nearby activities: Snorkeling in Key Largo 30 minutes south.Cliff jumping at Blue Lagoon Farms 20 minutes north.Safety: We try to check in early and cannot get into the property at all. We couldn’t even see inside to look at any of the rooms. Completely secluded and across from a police substation.Walkability: We walk next-door to an awesome Mexican restaurant, and there are also several parks that are walking distance in the area. You can also walk to get coffee at Starbucks and Dunkin donuts!Food & drinks: They have several grills so you can cook your own food and we stored our food and drinks in our private room. Got to try some awesome Jamaican chicken soup that one of the residents was cooking. It was delicious as well as the Mexican restaurant next-door!

This place is eccentric. The fenced private courtyard is amazing! Led lit palms with waterfall, a climb on tree canopy, historic buildings right out of a storybook. Employees were great.

Stayed in two different private rooms on separate nights on a road trip. Convenient location between Miami, biscayne and the keys. Rooms were clean, the courtyard was awesome, and all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Plenty of security cameras monitoring the guest fridge/kitchen area and card locked doors on all the rooms which was appreciatedRooms: Clean, comfy, good air conditioning, free WiFi, sheets cleaned dailyNearby activities: Close to Miami, biscayne national park, and the entrance to the keys. Also close to several grocery/convenience storesSafety: Plenty of security cameras and cars locked doors

Stayed 4 nights in private room. Has a wonderful large court yard with areas to hangout, smoking and non smoking areas. Kitchen to cook your own food and areas to dine. Charming Old building which has been kept nice. Great location, 20 minutes to beaches. Wonderful, friendly staff made me feel welcome and safe. Great price.

Stayed there with my girlfriend to recharge after a night of mosquitoes and rain in Everglades National Park. The owner, Mike, and all of his staff are welcoming and sociable. Interior is a little run-down, but clean and vibrant. The backyard will take your breath away. This place is his passion project, he bought it in total disrepair and has put 5ish years now into renovating the place for young travelers looking for some nightlife fun and affordable accommodations. He also hosts reggae parties during holidays, with a fog machine, lasers, and DJ. Mike and the crew have big plans for their hostel, and he’ll gladly chat with you all morning about it. Can’t wait to go back for a NYE party once his smoothie bar (using local produce) and his Caribbean food stand get finished. Seriously, if you’re okay with a communal bathroom, come stay at a slice of Jamaican paradise right between Everglades and Key Largo.

Three nights unsafe and terrified. Sanitation in a hostel isn't expected to be the best. But including the lack of hospitality, The facade of a serenity. It's very cheaply done, meaning unsafe. Not a good idea even for a cheap deal.

A nice place to rest your head and to save a little in your wallet, especially if traveling alone. The staff are friendly and helpful and although it's pretty much shared, no one bothers you, and as a woman alone, I'm grateful for that. You can rent one of the individual rooms as well, if you don't want to share with others, though bathrooms are still shared, from what I've seen (just ask if you need to know.) The single rooms have their own fridge and tv and look very clean and comfortable. The backyard is lovely, with a pool with waterfall, a treehouse (if one cares to go up there, I didn't), and fountain. There is an outdoor shower I keep forgetting to try, and places to sit and eat. There is a kitchen and common area with a smart TV that has Netflix and such. I didn't go in there much since brought a laptop, but people go in there and play Xbox apparently.Needless to say it's certainly a good spot if you just need to rest you head for a few days. I'll certainly come back if in the area and in need of a place to sleep.

Hoosville Hostel, has absolutely gorgeous back courtyard. Beautiful big trees, natural spring with waterfall, its magical. Nice private rooms. Staff is mostly friendly and pretty relaxed. Big kitchen and dining room, with plenty of outdoor seating. Wifi works well. Some of the guests seem a little sketchy, most are very nice, but overall good experiences there.
