Let me start by saying that I don't normally write reviews. I find that they are extremely time-consuming and quite honestly, by the time I get home and get back into "normal" mode, any strong feelings I had about the experience have usually waned. But I know I did a ton of research, and read plenty of reviews, for what I hoped would be a wonderful family vacation for my family and I. So I really wanted to share a couple of our experiences regarding Hawks Cay Resort. Hopefully it will help.Unfortunately, what prompted me to write this review was the negative breakfast experience at the restaurant, Sixty-One Prime. The service was TERRIBLE. We arrived at the restaurant around 10:00 am on our first full day on the property. It wasn't too busy and we were seated within a reasonable period of time, but when it came to ordering, I honestly thought we were on candid camera. The male server seemed nice enough, but perhaps he wasn't cut out for the job. Either that or the restaurant itself is poorly managed. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks, which ended up not being correct. Then waited well over an hour to get our meals with many mistakes along the way. It honestly became laughable at one point. When it comes to restaurants, it's often the small things that matter....like keeping the coffee cups filled, and fixing a wobbly table. We ended up having to find a manager, who did offer us a small discount for our troubles, but was otherwise unaffected by our experience.I would have expected this to be handled a little bit better. It put a bad taste in our mouth for the remainder of the trip and we did not visit the restaurant again.Hawks Cay ProsOverall, the resort itself was nice and many of the staff members were fantastic, especially the lady that makes the omelettes! The ConsVillas are outdated and calls for service were either not resolved properly or not responded to at all.Would we stay here again.....not sure.Rooms: Villas are expensive and seem outdated. Garbage disposal did not work. Ceiling fan light did not work. Phone did not work. Microwave plate did not fit. Just ok for the money.

We spent 5 nights at Hawks Cay this past week. Given the price of the stay, I was disappointed in the property and the villa that we stayed in. Overall, the word that comes to mind is shabby - the grounds and building were tired, and the dated villa we stayed in needed paint and refreshing. We were in a two bedroom (we have two teenagers), and the one full bath was terribly designed. Tiny vanity, not enough hooks/towel bars. We didn’t eat in any restaurants on property. The bright spot was the lovely woman at the front gate from 2-11pm. She was warm, friendly, and welcoming.

We stayed in a lovely townhome and enjoyed the pools and lagoon. The sand volleyball court was fun.Food & drinks: The Angler & Ale (one of the onsite restaurants) was incredibly over-priced. The service was great, but it’s essentially plastic picnic tables on the patio and the food was so-so. It felt like a Red Robin or TGI Fridays but with triple the prices. For as expensive as it was, I was expecting a better atmosphere and better food. We enjoyed driving to Bongo’s and other nearby places to eat instead of staying at the resort for food.

Such an amazing experience, I went here for a week and the view was beautiful, all the service was absolutely fantastic and everyone was so kind. The rooms are tidied up a few times a day, and the rooms are in great condition. The pools are kept nice and the water is warm and refreshing. Sixty-One Prime is a fine-dining restaurant in the resort with AMAZING food the service is absolutely amazing and I definitely recommend the Banana Walnut French Toast for breakfast. Overall the place has so much to do and it’s definitely a great place for vacationing in the Florida Keys!Rooms: The rooms are so clean and comfortable, they are high maintenance and cleaned multiple times a day. The view from the balconies are gorgeous.Nearby activities: Activities include restaurants, paddling boarding, pools, bars, bean bag toss, basketball, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, and there is aquariums and souvenir stores nearby.Walkability: You can honestly walk around the whole resort, yes the resort is huge but it’s gorgeous.Food & drinks: There’s a pretty big variety of food at the store outside and the restaurant and the food is absolutely delicious and luxurious. The bars have LOTS of drinks to choose from that are really good.

Last minute booking brought us to Hawks Cay for our couples trip to Miami and the Keys. It seemed so family friendly - making us miss our kids. Food was overpriced, but was outweighed by an amazing hot tub in the room, very comfortable beds and a gorgeous view. Wish we could have stayed longer!Rooms: In-room tub was deep and luxurious. Great views of the lagoon.

Didn't stay here, but the conference we did attend here was fantastic! Excellent food and drink and service. Pleasant atmosphere and entertainment (iguanas and dolphins).Noteworthy details: Very clean and chill. Friendly, quick service.

Gorgeous! My room led out onto the adult-only pool. Very quiet. I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise then watched the in residence dolphins play before feeding time. Great restaurant: Angler and Ale.

Nice resort at an elevated price. Like most of the keys no real beach but they give you a small private man made beach. Dolphins are really cool!Rooms: Rooms or nice but nothing extraordinary especially? For that price you may expect more. But it is the keys in February.

The resort itself was great. Large main pool, second adult pool, cornhole, firepit, plenty of lounge chairs and the extra benefit of lounging by the dolphins while watching them workout. we took a pickleball lesson and it was outstanding. The 3 bedroom condo was a huge disappointment. first the kitchen didn't have the basic items. we had to call to the front desk to get pots and pans that we always had at any other condo rentals...the kitchen just didn't have the basics. The condition of the unit was also sub par. We had to call the front desk after arriving in the condo to report broken furniture, loose sink faucet, 2 broken ceiling fans , dirty tile floor and we could see the bathroom on the main level had old residue along the bottom of the shower door. The condo while convenient and yes we enjoyed the pool and having the use of the kitchen was just a huge disappointment ...we spent way too much time calling into the front desk vs. enjoying the vacation.

Pros: Beautiful resort, pool and lagoon at the main hotel area is really nice (very kid friendly, lots of families here). The rooms are clean, although somewhat dated, and beds are comfy. The staff was all very nice and helpful. The dolphins are very fun to watch every day!Nice fitness center with free weights and good cardio/weight machines.Cons for me: the food is incredibly expensive and just okay (although apparently everything is expensive in the keys). There's not a lot super close to the resort either so you'll be driving a lot to eat elsewhere. There's no microwave in the rooms (hotel rooms, not villas) so it's difficult to try to bring your own food too.The wifi is super shotty and goes in and out a lot. There are multiple pools but they are fairly spread out across a large resort so don't think you can easily walk from pool to pool.I had imagined a resort where I could stay all week and not feel I needed to go elsewhere and that was not the case. I wanted to eat elsewhere whenever possible and wanted to explore beaches or beautiful areas to walk because there's not any of that at the resort. You're sort of isolated from the ocean by the lagoon and a canal. For the price, I feel it didn't live up to my expectations, but I think you just have to know what you're getting. We still had a great time, just had to go off resort much more than expected to get what we were looking for.Rooms: Clean, fairly roomy, slightly dated. Comfy beds/pillows.Food & drinks: Expensive and mediocre.
