We were stuck in a traffic jam on Interstate 75, happened to see the Smallwoodstore sign and spontaneously drove the 30 minutes to Chokoloskee. The boat tour was more than worth it. Since there were no other visitors on site at the time, we were lucky enough to be alone with our tour guide. We booked an hour and were on the road for 1.5 hours! We drove through the ten thousand islands, were dropped off on a deserted island and dolphins accompanied us on the way back... the $50 per person was more than worth it, but unfortunately we didn't have any time for the museum.

Was thirsty after the mangrove tour and stopped up to get a quick drink before getting on my tour bus. Small wood Store only had small bottles of Coke (approximately 6 ounces); the cost was $5. ?
The restrooms outside were decent and clean.
Thank you.

My wife and I got the best experience with the best captain!
Gary showed us everything… we saw archeological pieces, an island built by indigenous people made out of shells, and then we got to enjoy the company of a family of dolphins. He shared stories and made this trip the best we have had!!!
Thank you for a wonderful day!
We’re coming back!

Absolute horrible experience.
The cash person looks at you with mean eyes when you want pay credit. Almost rude. Not a smile not a thank you.
Right after we paid, she goes to my kid saying: "Are you going to pay for that?" like he was about to steal something ... as we had just paid.
No consideration. Just a tourist trap.

There are signs everywhere saying museums and shops. You are being directed towards this place. However, even entrance costs money. Now, if this is a shop, why is money charged at the entrance? If there is no museum, why is it offered to people in shop format? Okay, everything in America is money, but this is a bit like underestimating the customer.

Love this place even was able to climb the ADA compliant stairway out front after my sister went looking for a handicap entrance.
It reminded me of the general stores of my youth. I enjoyed the Totch Brown video and the Seminole beadwork and dolls as I do the same crafts.

SO cool. You'll enjoy it no matter what as a unique piece of old Florida history, but you'll get plenty of extra out of it if you've read Shadow Country or Killing Mr. Watson. Ask the staff to tell you more about the store--they're very knowledgeable!

This place is a total gem for history enthusiasts or anyone who likes looking around at antique oddities. This area in general feels so remote and special and has all kinds of fascinating history (we also did the Smallwood Store's boat tour, which was guided by Gary, whose family has lived in the area for generations - my favorite part of my 10 day Florida vacation which included Miami and the Keys!). The store has such a great old wooden smell and feel, with a lovely breeze coming through it off the water. I spent over an hour thoroughly intrigued with all there was to look at. It was a thrill to get to go to one of Florida's former (and current?) most remote places and learn about the history of the people who made a living out of life on the edge.If this information was useful, I would appreciate a quick like or follow, please. Thank you! :)
