I adopted a cat from this SPCA of Hernando location a couple of years back for my Mom who had recently been widowed and her cat dog passed away. She was so happy! They bonded immediately and are a pair today. Her name was originally Tabitha but Mom said she looked like a Susie. Thank you for all you do to help abandoned and mistreated pets!!

Very sad, rock music blaring to where it was hard to talk and listen. The person working there quickly tried to tidy up as we walked through by sweeping and covering couches, animals (dogs and cats) itching with fleas and wandering around. The cats we saw were sick, quite frankly. Goop in their eyes, almost all of them, just didn't look cared for or healthy. The person didn't know anything about any of the animals, including names and history, nor was there anything written. It was really sad...made me so sad that I wanted to adopt one out just to get it out of that place. How can this be happening? I don't get it, seems kind of cruel to me.

After visiting this place multiple times and even adopting several animals from there I can confidently say the staff is doing the best they can with what they have. These animals are usually brought in or dropped off and may have existing problems the staff have not been able to address. I like to go and socalize with the cats as hopefully they will go to good homes. The adoption fees are adequately priced. If you don't like the condition of the place please consider donating than, they could always use your time and effort if you can't donate money. Building TLC requires money and I am sure they are not swimming in it.

This place is either underfunded or under staffed, or both, I'm not sure. The workers were friendly enough and looked like they were doing the best they could, but just couldn't keep up with all the work needed. We came in to adopt a cat but didn't really find what we were looking for.I feel sorry for all the poor animals who need homes.

Best place to get Cats & Dogs, I highly Recommend going here! There staff is really friendly and helpful! Got all four of my cats from this shelter, it's totally worth the time and effort with the adoption process, all the cats are super friendly and adorable when you spend enough time with them! ?

When I went there the place is run down. All the dogs were outside in these hot conditions. The dogs were all dirty and not spayed/ neutered. If places like this have animals they show be better taken care of. I feel bad for these poor animals. And the ppl that run the spca so have better funding for animals.

Absolutely the most horrible facilities I've ever encountered and rudest staff! The place reeked of urine and ammonia! Sick animals in hallway and large room and no vet or help in sight.....this place should be shut down until it's cleaned up and the animals can be cared for properly...

We adopted a kitten there. Staff was amazingly helpful and kind. We highly recommend that you look there first to adopt a pet.

Facility is very run down and needs some TLC. The staff seem loving to the animals. The adult cat room was very large and the cats seemed healthy and friendly. The kitten room was a mess, way too many in a small 5x5 room. Some were sick and very under weight.I did not have to wait the 24hrs to adopt even though paperwork said that was policy. Long story short…..Now I have a very sick kitten that seemed to be healthy and active at the time. Tried calling to get more information about health and diet while at the facility and no one answers or returns phone calls.I took her to the emergency vet to get her the care that she needs and hoping that she will make it. Someone needs to step up and help these animals like they should be.Update: She did not make it. Such aSad thing
