Don and Cottman Transmission has been wonderful to me. I am actually a repeat customer that feels like family. Replace transmission, transforms, sensor, and oil change are a few of the services I received from Cottman. I remember calling Don after my car would not start, and he sent a very reliable mechanic to come and get it working. That same mechanic has also driven me home afterhours.
Don never forgets to call me the day after, even on the weekend when closed, to check on me and my car. All that sounds like family or close friendship. I have never been treated like VIP by a car repair shop before! I trust Don and Cottman Transmission.

The most unprofessional shop in town. Third time they have had the vehicle and still haven’t fixed it. You leave the shop make it 20 miles it breaks down and they refuse to pay for a tow back to correct their mistake. They leave you on the side of the road waiting on a phone call back from them that never comes. When I sit in the shop for 5 hours to change a simple sensor. And I see not one but two different customers come in for their second and third time. One didn’t even make it 5 minutes before he brought it back and said it was even worse. Avoid this shop like the plague. Any shop that will not pay for a tow truck for something that did not make it 20 miles after being worked is something to be avoided tell me I’m wrong. It was there because you worked on it and it was under your warranty. The extended warranty has nothing to do with it. You have it for the third time because it’s not fixed yet.

Took my car there cause my transmission was acting up and they were very thorough with how they approached my vehicle and very professional on how they explained it to me. Prices were great considering the job that was being done and service was awesome. Car is feeling brand new and haven't been having any problems whatsoever. Very much recommend this shop!

In 2024 there are still mechanics who will take advantage of a woman. My daughter took her vehicle here after breaking down on the road. Without so much as a blink they say $6000 needs a transmission. She gets nervous and anxious because she is a single working mom and this is just not in her budget. So she calls around and finds another mechanic to loom at it. (They are going to get the same review). I think the whole point of bringing the car in is so the mechanic can actually LOOK at the vehicle and make a proper assessment. Not look at the customer and see if you can rob them. I had to make 3 trips to Brandon before finding a trustworthy, honest, dependable mechanic not looking to line his pockets. Cottman's in Brandon will rob you if you let them. BUYER BEWARE

Price gouging.
My tranmission died on Sunday, March 17th. On Monday, I called several transmission shops and settled on Cottman. Over the phone, Don, the manager, quoted me a reasonable price and promised a quick turnaround, so I towed my car there. I asked Don if he thought I could get $500 or $1,000 for my car in its present condition. Don said I'd be lucky to get $200.
Shortly after dropping the car off, I got a call from Don with a much higher price, so I started shopping again. I found another shop across town that towed the car from Cottman. When I went to Cottman to pay for the diagnostic fee, Don said to call him back once I get my lowest price. He also said he was interested in buying my car (a Jeep Wrangler) from me because he had the perfect engine.
I paid $1,200 less to have my transmission fixed elsewhere.

I thought transmission places were basically the same. Went to Cottmans transmission and met Don. Don believes in old school communication. He will keep the customer updated with what’s going on with the transmission and if it’s under warranty what’s going on with the warranty company I can’t say enough good things about Don very happy with the service.

Very helpful shop from my experience.My car started sputtering and check engine light came on Friday. After leaving it overnight, they gave me an update Monday about what needed to be done.Very thorough inspection as they found my water pump was leaking too.They were able to fix my transmission issue, engine tune up, and replace my water pump.They updated me Tuesday and I got my car back on Wednesday. My husband drove it and says it's great, I'm very happy with my car knowing they fixed the transmission and extra stuff on top.Pricing was very reasonable considering all that needed to be fixed. I'd recommend considering other shops would take weeks to fix my car.

Very upset with this place. I drove my 2017 Ford Focus R/S to get my engine light diagnostic. After a few hours of the vehicle being at the shop and calling in frequently to get an update, I was told that my car wasn’t running anymore. They told me that my best option was to bring it to Ford and have them take a look at it. I had to tow my vehicle out. Still to this day my vehicle isn’t running because the damages will cost me around $5,500 which I simply don’t have right now. I drove it in, and had to tow it out because they simply didn’t want to deal with it. 0/10Service: General repairs & maintenance
