Our beloved 8 yr old Bassador(Basset hound Labador mix) Angel, 'overnight' loss the use of her back legs. We called our Vet (Davis Blvd Vet) and she suggested that we skip her and go directly to the ER . She said that would end up being her diagnosis on loss of rear legs, so we are much appreciative of her honesty.
At SW Fl Vet Specialist we got in right away and doc gave us the various possibilities including euthanasia ...We were given some meds and a time line of when she should be showing improvement. Doc didn't sugar coat it as most Dogs experiencing this never regain their back legs. There is the back surgery to repair disc damage...but that is in the $10-13,000 range...and there is no guarantee it may return or not get better at all. Most dogs experiencing this only live 6-12 months....
We have had a few dogs in my family have this problem over the past 50+ years and we have had great success with Tuna in Vegetable oil. Dogs love it and its easy to hide meds in. We are praying between the meds (gabapentin for the nerves and a muscle relaxer ) that Angel can get some improvement. Else...we are going to try wheels. We believe you cant put down any living thing if its still capable of showing love.... Angel shows her love in her eyes and her attempts at 'speaking' so we are remaining hopeful.
I recommend the SWFL Vet.Specialist as a good practice to take your pet in an emergency. Warning up front. They are pricey, but can you put a dollar amount on your pet?

I had a terrible experience with Southwest Florida Veterinary Specialists. They didn’t run the correct tests for my dog’s condition, instead opting for unnecessary ones just to rack up charges. I felt scammed by the whole process and ended up overpaying without getting the proper care my dog needed. Definitely won’t be coming back or recommending them.

My baby (French bull ) had an anaphylactic reaction to something and I had to rush him in on a Saturday morning. I was so scared he was going in and out of consciousness, limp and very pale. He was in bad shape, they rushed him in and took care of him .They were better than any human ER I have ever been in . I would give them a thousands ⭐️’s if I could they are AMAZING!!!!!!

They sure give Excellent care at Southwest Florida veterinary. Staff was very friendly. All made us and our pet comfortable. Nice and clean place with very knowledgeable doctors. They explained everything very throughly about his condition. Our Marley Cooper is usually pretty stressed when going to any new place. He hides under the chairs and shakes. He loved it here tho!¡ Marely Cooper actually layed against the wall and just chilled until they came in his room. That made us super happy. Everyone gave him pet jobs and he loved all the attention. The price was better than expected too, which is a plus!!! Thank you to all the staff for making a wonderful vet visit!

Excellent bedside manors!! Very thorough in explanation and attention to detail, Dr Bennett listened to every word out of my mouth and even repeated it back to me to make sure she heard me correctly!!! Ducky is on 4 week crate rest and plenty of meds to help his IVDD flare up to chill out! Rescue cleft sister, Swayze, even let him use her cheek meat as a pillow to help hold up his head while gettin some sun this afternoon ( 10 minutes )

I would encourage anyone reading reviews to go to different social media platforms, and read everything about this place. I’ve taken different pets here in the past and I’ve always had an uneasy feeling that all they care about is money. Always offering very high, or what they consider to be low estimates. This time I took my new puppy in for a runny nose w a little eye discharge. They immediately said parvo, maybe distemper, and so on. Wanted to keep him overnight and run all kinds of tests, I was told he was a very sick puppy. While he was there I also asked for his test results to which a female said I would not be sent in house lab results and laughed. I called back and asked if I was paying for these tests, why wouldn’t they be sent to me? A different female said I do not know who would have told you that. Taking advantage of people who are scared for their pets is something I do not understand.
Luckily the puppy was pulled out at midnight and seen by another trusted professional the following day. Thankfully the puppy is doing fine with no parvo or distemper. The puppy did not stay the night at SWFL vet specialists and the bill was 2000$. I can only imagine what would’ve happened to him had I left him there, what the bill would’ve looked like, and which unnecessary tests would’ve been done. Do your research and find people who truly care about animals. We will not go back to this place again.

I cannot say enough about how great this team is to work with. They were very friendly and kind to me, and absolutely wonderful with my dog, Oliver. They took such good care of him and kept me updated every step of the way. I worked with Dr. Stacy, Beth and the rest of the amazing team. If Oliver ever needs emergency care again, I will take him to SW Florida Veterinary Specialists without hesitation. Thank you to everyone there who helped care for Oliver. I appreciate you. :)

We use them as Emergency Vets and have discovered they have specialists in every necessary area. I would recommend this office as an emergency vet and a specialty vet for pets with special health issues. I do not know if there is a standard veterinary office on site for day to day vet needs.

Dr. Nadar is wonderful. We were out of town for fout months and our little guy took a turn for the worse. Dr. Nadar worked with the vet where we were at. She consulted several times during the four month period. It was so kind of her togive her time even though she wasn't getting paid for the appointment. I will always appreciate her kindness. All the staff are very kind.

I would love giving a review to Thank each and every wonderful, loving, caring, gentle amazing staff during the day shift and overnight ER staff, techs and every individual at SWFla Vet. Dr Wendleburg for her amazing surgery and treating my precious 8 year old chihuahua Adrienne for surgery on both her back legs She had luxating patella surgery. They gave her (and me) such love, respect and the utmost attention I am beyond pleased and grateful to all. I wish I could remember everyone’s names. Liz, Beth, Duli, Eli, Michelle, Dr Stacey and I believe Dawn? If I made an error or missed your name I’m forever grateful. ??? with Love Judy A
