I've been homeless for 5 and 1/2 months. Our county sheriff deputy's have noticed me around certain areas, have been quite kind offering me coffee or water or a hot dog. Last night one of the sheriff deputies recommended to go to this cafe of life to get some shirts and socks I took his advice. I arrived at the cafe of Life at 9:00 per the schedule on their door. A young man approached me obviously a staff member and told me that they're serving food at the park at 10:00 I explain to him I didn't want any food I just needed a couple of shirts and socks his response was we're feeding at 10:00 at the park. The park is about a thousand feet from Cafe of Life. I walk over and sat at the park till 10:45 assuming that they would show up and maybe I can speak with someone but all I wanted was a couple of pairs of shirts and maybe some socks and sneakers cuz my feet have been wet for two days. I decided to go back across the street as I walk up to the cafe of Life this courteous caring man it's out of his pickup truck and asked me the correct question are you homeless I said yes sir what do you need I just need some shirts at that point that's all I can ask for. This second staff member for Cafe of Life started handing me $10 gift cards I accepted them but that's not what I was there for so he took me into the building and I can see that they were setting up food in the dining area And I told him that I didn't want to go inside I'll just stand inside the door. The first staff member that approached me earlier telling me that there's food at the park comes out of their kitchen area and told me oh your back again. To be honest that hurt me more than being in the woods for 5 and 1/2 months You would think and establishment that they are that this young man would be much more compassionate. I never post anything negative online I'm just too old for that 67 just turn in June. I would have expected a more proper greeting like it's glad to see you back but that's not how it was. I'm sorry I cannot ask Cafe of Life for any assistance I pray to God that they treat other people better than this 67-year-old homeless man and all that wanted was the couple of shirts and socks. My Lord Jesus Christ has made my trails for the past 5 and 1/2 months comfortable until he tested me with this young man working at the cafe of Life Bonita springs Florida.

Require your staff to be compassionate to the needs of the community.

I have been a volunteer, contributor and love helping people in need. However, a new manager is needed. He shows little interest or respect for his workers and experienced volunteers. After several discussions on how to improve operations for volunteers and recipients, he just looked at the floor and said "It's not my job" and walked away. Very disrespectful ! Caring and experienced volunteers can help create an even better organization.

A group of us from Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church provide a monthly “Fruit Blessing” at Cafe of Life. People are offered a variety of fruit which they can take home to enjoy! It is such a wonderful experience to share God’s blessings with those in need
