We love Deer Run on the Atlantic so much we actually got married there. Jen & Harry did a wonderful job helping us coordinate someone to marry us and a photographer. She even made us a cake! I think if I could cook vegan like Jen can I would 100% be vegan. The rooms are decorated in an environmentally thoughtful manner and the breakfast was sooo good. It’s a destination for those who want to enjoy what the Keys used to be like. Close enough to Marathon and Key West for day trips … a nice quiet place to stay away from the masses surrounded by beautiful scenery and Key deer.

It's pure heaven. We could sit there all day, never move and be happy. We walked the beach and cleaned up any plastics that had washed in. We had a deserted road to powerwalk and found plenty of food locally. The owners are the nicest people you'll ever meet that care so much about the planet, the wildlife and all the people that they meet. So special.

We stayed here for a few days while visiting the Keys and our visit has been incredible and exceeded our expectations. Harry and Jen are active in local conservation efforts and can share all about the environment and how we can both nurture it and enjoy it.
Food: We were welcomed with the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. We’ve had delicious housemade pastries every morning with fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and juice. You can preorder Jen’s box lunches that are absolutely amazing and pick them up at breakfast. There is a good sized small fridge in your room you can pop them in or borrow one of their coolers if you are heading out for the afternoon. The box lunches are so good that we’d recommend them even if you have lunch plans- get one for dinner! We had tofu egg salad wraps, side salad (a kale salad one day and potato salad the next and they were each so delicious,) fruit, cookies, and a drink. Not only were they healthy, filling, and tasty, they were a great value. (Prices may change but they were $15 each when we were here.)
Amenities: We utilized the kayaks on two days and the bikes and had a great time. Our room had a super comfortable bed, nice bathroom, fridge, comfy seating inside and and great set up on the porch. There is ample ocean front seating throughout the property, an outdoor shower and a cool salt water dipping pool (which was super refreshing after a bike ride.) Best of all, you get to co-exist with the endangered key deer who will come around as they browse.
Wildlife: In addition to the Key Deer, we saw and heard lots of birds, and while kayaking even more including roseate spoonbills. We also saw several different types of sharks, barracuda, horseshoe crabs, jellies, a manta ray and a sea turtle.
Jen and Harry were terrific hosts and staying at a vegan BnB is such a gift and worth going the extra miles to get to do!

We had a beautiful 3 night stay in the king room, ocean front. The room was wonderful, spacious, clean, with its own private balcony overlooking the beach - where we could watch the key deer roam around. It also had a refrigerator. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. Sargassum had invaded the beach sadly. We enjoyed sitting on the veranda after breakfast each morning. Harry was a very welcoming host. We loved the cash honor bar for drinks (which they donate to animal shelters). Jen also makes and sells jewelry and ornaments on site. I loved the pro-vegan signs all around too. Breakfast was self serve each morning. We had the option of cakes or a fruit from the bowl. I would say that was the only disappointment- 3 mornings of eating cake for breakfast was a bit much, although it was delicious. There isn’t really much thought into the different options for breakfast offerings, which was a shame seeing as we came to support a vegan B&B. I’m glad we spent 3 nights of our vacation here - the location is gorgeous, the hosts were wonderful and the key deer are just a joy to watch.

Deer Run is great for a romantic getaway at a quiet place. We love supporting vegan establishments and although most of Deer Run's guests are not vegan, the bed and breakfast is, and very eco-friendly as well.Harry (who oversees the day-to-day stuff) is amazing--friendly and informative without being invasive or pushy. Jennifer, the other co-owner and onsite cook, seems eccentric and reclusive. We only saw her once, by accident, and honestly, it's a little unnerving to never see the person making your food, but for the second we saw her, she seemed great. The food was tasty, but breakfast is essentially desserts and there is zero legitimately vegan friendly fare within 40 minutes of the B&B, and everything closes early, so if you are vegan, you really have to plan your meal schedule each day.All in all, it's a great place. The only down side is how remote it actually is, but if you want a quiet getaway, it works be hard to do better than Deer Run.Rooms: Rooms are nice, but for the price, nothing close to the amenities you would get at an equivalent hotel in, say, downtown Key West. The rooms are clean and comfy, though.Walkability: There are no sidewalks in the area. You walk the beach or you walk the road.Food & drinks: Food is scarce. It's a bed and breakfast, and breakfast is mainly dessert foods and dinner fruit. Though delicious, not great to power you up for the day. You can order lunch a day ahead of time (and it's a great value), but if you are hoping to play it loose, there is no meal under 30 minutes away (keep that in mind if you are planning on drinking adult beverages throughout the day).Noteworthy details: The Key Deer and stargazing here are, of course, great. Any activities (Key West, Bahia Honda, snorkel tours, etc) are minimum 40 minutes and likely closer to 2 hours of driving away. If you are planning on a beach party vacation with lots of activities and adult beverages, this is not the vacation you are looking for. If you are a vegan couple, looking to escape city bustle for a few days and do literally nothing but relax on a beach, then this is a perfect getaway!

We had a relaxing stay in an oceanfront room and enjoyed seeing the deer and birds that frequent the property. The location is very quiet and remote so you really do feel like you've gotten away from it all. We took the kayaks out one morning and had a great time paddling around the mangroves and spotting all types of birds and even a sea turtle. Unfortunately they no longer provide a full breakfast, which was rather disappointing after reading all the previous rave reviews. Some vegan baked goods and fresh fruit are put out in the morning alongside paper plates and disposable cutlery. We went to Winn Dixie and purchased some other breakfast items as we just cannot eat pastries every morning. There is a fridge in the room, which was definitely very handy. I do recommend purchasing the vegan boxed lunches, which are healthy and delicious. I'd rate our stay here as just fine but sadly not worth the price. I regretted spending $3, 000 in total for 5 nights here.

This is a great getaway after a busy few days in Key West. Very quiet, remote, and the innkeepers were kind and accommodating. The deer would hang around at night and it was fascinating watching them by the sea, we have lots of deer at home but not the size of dogs! The room was great and ours had a screened porch which was nice to read from. Breakfasts have changed since Covid, they are muffins and scones and oh so good! They have kayaks which we took from the ocean to the bay behind, recommend looking out at the bay first so you'll know what to look for to get to the house, we had to turn around and just come back by ocean. If you want peace and just hanging out in the sun, this is for you!

We loved the seclusion of this wonderful B&B..breakfast was nice and as an extra bonus they have started doing a packed lunch for 15$ per person. Harry was incredibly informative and Jen was very kind to share her recipes with me. Seeing the deer wander around was magical and lots of other wildlife pootling around too. Just make sure you have good bug spray as the noseeums were horrendous.

This hidden gem is everything I was hoping for. The deers are always coming at the end of the afternoon. The pool is the perfect spot for hot days after a hike or coming back from visiting Key West. Jen & Harry are exceptional caring hosts. The most wonderful healthy breakfast are served every morning. A unique place that is worth visiting if you like nature, peace and quiet and a blanket of stars over your head .
