Love location & place. View is amazing. Room clean. Bed comfortable. Enjoyed key deer visiting each evening. Breakfast was okay. Nothing fancy. Cons. It was a burden not to have ice available to guests. Either freezer or ice machine. Communication was lacking. Responses were received 18-24 hours later. Tried to get info sooner, but received check in details, info & password at our check in time. Sent numerous texts & left vm message that the password was incorrect which resulted in no internet or TV for 18 hrs until she responded with correct password.

First of all, I suggest booking through the Barnacle’s own website. We have stayed at the Barnacle for nearly 20 years. It has new management who have made beautiful changes. It continues to be a treasure in a hectic frantic world. It sits on the Atlantic on a peaceful peninsula away from noise. It’s nestled in a nature lovers paradise. Birds fly, swim and walk the beach grass right in front of you. Key deer wander the grounds. The Marine Sanctuary, Key Deer Refuge and Coupon Bight protection preserve this area from development. Bicycles, kayaks, tikki shade and peace are yours at this amazing place.

Via expedia deze B&b geboekt in oktober.

We’ve stayed at the Barnacle six times over the years and loved it. It was full of varies colors and interesting knick-knacks that helped create a wonderful “Keys funky” atmosphere. It sits on its own beach and is very quiet and serene. Breakfasts were an “event” with hot egg and meat breakfast dishes, fresh fruit and a variety of breads along with juice and bottomless coffee served in an atrium that was open to the skies and full of rocks and plants.
The Barnacle is now under new ownership and the atmosphere has changed dramatically. We recently stayed there for six nights, from a Tuesday to the next Monday. Gone are the varied colors, rocks and plants. The atrium is now roofed over and has all the charm of a high-school cafeteria. The color is primarily beige as is the experience. Breakfast is now serve-yourself cold continental. Saturday and Sunday were “special” because, without any warning, explanation, apology or compensation, there was no breakfast at all. Not a scrap to be found nor anyone from management or staff to provide it. We were left completely alone to our own devices. Good luck.
There are some other changes to the Barnacle as well, specifically the posted warnings “This property is under 24-hour surveillance” with cameras to boot. There’s even one on the rooftop sundeck which seems not only intrusive but not a little bit creepy as well.
All this was ours for the premium price of $450 per night. They get two stars because it was clean, the AC in the room worked and the bed was comfortable. But that’s where the “good news” ends.
Over the years, we’ve recommended to many people that they should stay at the Barnacle. Now, and it pains us to say this, we have to recommend you don’t.

Host are incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast is different and delicious each day. Love, the setting couldn’t possibly be better. It has its own private beach topped off by the friendly key deer!Rooms: I have stayed here several times over the last decade. All the rooms are unique and very inviting. I will definitely definitely be coming back.

Absolutely fabulous place. Stayed here for two nights, right on the beach, with the lovely key deer visiting. A really nice atmosphere on big pine key. Close enough to visit Key West, but not so busy.

We were highly disappointed to have driven 3 hours from Miami having planned the trip for a few months, to find we couldn’t access our room. There is no staff on site, they do not answer their phone, and it is now 24 hours later, they haven’t returned my call. Apparently they were supposed to send an email 24 hrs prior to arrival with check in instructions. Neither my, nor my wife’s, email accounts, or spam, have anything from this place. So I canceled and had to book at the crummy motel down the street. And now they want to charge me a cancellation fee of one day plus fees! Pissed is an understatement. I wouldn’t send anyone here. Also - check out the shared bathrooms! Additionally not sure how it’s a bed and breakfast. To my knowledge there is no restaurant, a shared fridge outside is all we saw.

I had an outstanding stay here on my trip to big pine key. Wendy, the owner, made a fresh breakfast every morning and was so hospitable. The rooms were immaculately clean and the hotel location is perfect. I was only about 15 minutes from Bahia Honda which had great snorkeling and 40 minutes from key west, plus sometimes I saw little key deer wandering around the property. This was a great little B and B, and on my next trip to the keys I’ll definitely be staying here again.

My 5 star rating is given because as an overall experience Barnacle B&B provided my wife and me with a very positive and unusual experience. The owner, a world traveler, has adapted a set of structures that, over the years, has been devastated by hurricanes into a qwerky and comfortable island hideaway. Her inventiveness and energy are on full display. If you are looking for a unique experience with a great breakfast try it.Rooms: Rooms are unique and personal

We stayed in the Ocean room and it was fantastic! A walk out to the beach with your morning coffee or evening beverage couldn't be better. You can watch the Key Deer walk right by! (Don't forget it's illegal to feed them. That's for their own good folks) Wendy whips up a plentiful and tasty breakfast. The AC worked great and the bed was super comfortable. You can snorkel just a few miles away at horseshoe beach or Bahia Honda beach. We look forward to coming back next year!

Great accommodation with super nice house people. The rooms have a great flair, including the stained glass windows. Every day there was a different, very tasty breakfast with a view of the sea. A small roof terrace invites you to enjoy the sunset. Guests have free use of kayaks to explore the mangrove forests. The bicycles there can also be used. A highlight are the Key Deer (Island Deer) which are everywhere on Big Pine Key.

This is our second time to stay at the Barnacle. It is a delightful, fun, quirky kind of place with many nooks and cranies to discover. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was different and special every day. Wendy made recommendatioins for things to do and where to eat. (Do try the Ahi Tuna Nachos at Kiki's Sand Bar!!) There were kyaks and bicylcles. Lots of Key Deer that walk right up to you. There is a grill, so get your steaks and get going!!! We will be there again!
