Inattentive , ghetto, unprofessional not all the staff are like this but there second shift only comes for easy money and not because she has compassion or empathy for people in this situation. Come here do what you have to do on your own all they want to do is get in your business and make you wait before you get any help save your money and set your own goals to get outta here . They don’t do anything except pass rules around. No compassion or empathy for the clients. You have to clean up after a whole bunch of grown people even if you get up everyday go to work and take your kids to school . I feel they should leave that for people during the day who aren’t productive or have jobs or anything instead of making people leave during the day which I feel is insane when people have children younger and older . They need to shut this place down and bring In Better staff and better programming. I do not recommend this prison I mean place for no one

Never stayed at a worst place. Please don't stay here they will try and evict you in 2 months time. To not give the first month's and security they promise. Longest u can stay here is 9 months!. They kept breaking My items and putting holes in the stuff I kept here. It isn't worth the hassle staying here. Because you'll end up spending more money. Because dinner is only a hour you can't bring food inside either. So then you'll be starving too. Director cryhstall. Is evil for no reason .

Don’t donate to this place they don’t help anyone someone’s stealing company funds and donations on the inside. They don’t help anyone in the community.

This is one of the worst shelters in the state of Delaware. Their supposed counselors are allowed to holler at, and belittle the homeless population that stays there in front of their children. My daughter's and I resided at the Salvation Army for a very short time. When my daughter's and I arrived at the Salvation Army, the counselor that was assigned to our case was out for a few days. The Salvation Army by law is required to complete all intake paperwork within the first few days that the resident arrives at the shelter. That wasn't done. (The counselor I'm speaking of is black with dreads). When the counselor arrived she wanted me to falsify paperwork, and sign the paperwork with a date other than the date that my family and I arrived there. She also left a note for me at the front desk stating that she needed to speak with me the following day, so that I could sign the falsified paperwork, and complete my families intake. She left her phone number on the note, I called her back and left her a very respectful voicemail stating that I could not meet with her at the time she requested (with absolutely no notice) because my daughters transportation was not set up yet, and I needed to take my daughter to school on the bus. When she arrived to work on that day, she knocked on the room door and I opened it. She was one of the most nasty, rude, ghetto, unprofessional people I had ever met in my life. She felt like her meeting was more important than my daughter's education. I told her that she gave me the meeting time with absolutely no notice, and my daughter's education came first. I told her that I did not like how she was speaking to me in front of my children (who barely got any sleep that night because it was freezing inside of the room, we all had to sleep with our coats on under the blankets). She then stated that, "nobody asked me to come there, and if I didn't like it I could leave". I reported her conduct immediately to the supposed director (who was of African descent, which was evident from her pronunciation of certain words). The director did absolutely nothing! As I was in the office the maintenance man came into the directors office and said that the people in the office were complaining that it was too hot in the building, so he turned the heat down. In the office! They went home every night! So because they complained we froze every night! By this time both of my daughter's and I had developed bad colds from how cold the room was every night. The Salvation Army has a policy that all residents have to leave between 12-4. I called downstairs, I told them that were all sick, I didn't have the strength to be outside from 10 to 4 with two sick children. They said I still had to leave, they told me to take my children to the hospital. This was the first time in life that I was so sick that I needed a prescribed cough medicine. All because of this shelter! That was the last day we stayed there. I took my children back to the motel, I had to struggle to pay for it daily, but at least my daughters had heat. My daughter's both were sick for an entire week! I reported the Salvation Army to license and inspection for the heat, and I also reported them to the Carvel State building housing discrimination office for Discrimination because of how they allowed their counselor to speak to me in front of my children. She should be fired! She should not be working in that environment! If there are any other people who stayed there, and were treated the same way by this counselor or any counselor there, please report them to the housing discrimination office at the Carvel State service building. There is strength in numbers, if more people report the way the Salvation Army is allowing their counselors to abuse people, they will be held accountable for their actions, and to the people that work in the office at the Salvation Army, remember that every time you complain, your causing a child to freeze at night until the point where their

Do not give to thus organization. They refused a beautiful entertainment center I had because it had to spots of paint no bigger than a pea size. It washed off. They REFUSED the mattresses and box spgings. THEY SAID everything had to be pristine. JERKS.

It's a community center, a learning center for children ages birth to 5yrs old, a women's and children shelter, social services, food pantry and a place to worship. Also a place for code purple when it's cold outside and enjoy a hot meal breakfast and some place to sleep for the night.
