I have belonged to many gyms over the years including the HAC and Orange. The YMCA in Newark is awesome. Their front desk customer service is very friendly and helpful. Every Les Mills Body combat teacher is outstanding. They give step by step instructions and clearly love what they do. This YMCA is a 5 star PLUS in my view.

Recently rejoined with the goal of getting in better shape. I started with a personal trainer, Tina, who has completely changed my view of working out and what my body is capable of doing. She is positive, encouraging, energetic, compassionate and there is zero shame in her approach. She is everything a trainer should be. She has kept me motivated to show up even when I’m not meeting with her.

I see that my post, as well as all the other negative posts are not answered or responded to, they only respond to the positive ones. I know of at least three other people who either had a membership or were refused one. This location has discriminated against them for a medical disability, for being homeless and several other issues. Not only that, but they are MUCH more expensive than the other ymca's in Delaware, as well as the ones in MD and PA!!!! And don't have a hot tub whereas several of the other MUCH cheaper ones do. Very sad that Western YMCA gets away with all this.

Great place. I have been a member here for five years. Every time when I come, I feel at home. That's awesome. And I can use the Membership even in other states. So grateful.

I came in for a tour on the facility and I was greeted by a nice lady at the front desk. As I was inquiring about summer camp, I was introduced to Mr. Dave. His energy and personality was AMAZING and because of him I was completely SOLD. He showed me around and I can’t wait to pass by him when we’re utilizing the facility. My family and I are joining the Western YMCA! Thanks Mr. Dave!

I enjoy this location. The one thing I do hate is the amount of high school boys taking up the weight portion of the gym. Beware if you come at the times of 3-6:30pm on week days because it is flooded with teenagers who spend most of their time on their phones or horsing around with each other. They also leave their belongings everywhere and don’t put their equipment away. It really does kind of ruin the experience.

The manager sent me and my money out the door. It was strange…I’m not gonna say it, but it was kinda weird. I went here as a a kid but now it feels like I’m not welcome.

As a YMCA member in Pennsylvania, I wanted to take some additional classes here taught by an old instructor I adore. The front desk staff was very friendly and made my registration easy and pleasant. I love working out in the large studio near the front door. It's a big space with a full wall of windows which starts my day with a view of the outdoors.

This location is friendly and welcoming. Any time I visit there are always a selection of no cost options for members to join classes. I have tried cycling, indoor pool water aerobics, Sauna, gym equipment and always feel rejuvenated when I leave. I have been told by members I inspire them and I have shared similar sentiments with other members. It is a family friend, community uplifting YMCA. In addition, there are personal trainers and other programs with related fees to participate. I highly recommend the Western Y.

Seriously baffled by the so called scheduling at the Y. Not sure why I pay a high membership fee to go here as often as I'm frustrated. Yes, it's the fourth of July and I'm grateful that their pools are open at all. But this facility has two outdoor pools. They opened one pool in the morning for laps, then, at 11, they're closing that pool and opening the pool in the back. Since I've arrived at 10:30, I'd have to start swimming at one pool, then drive to the back pool to finish my laps. This isn't the first time I've encountered absurd scheduling at this Y (and frankly all Wilmington Y's). Not saying don't join, just saying be prepared to leave without exercise.
