I frequent this store a lot since we just live down the street. I went to the store today 6/30//24 around 12:30pm. I had 7 bags of snacks at the self checkout. I put in my phone number in for the sale prices. The register never said, “card accepted” but I thought maybe the volume was turned down. Once I scanned the items I knew immediately the sale prices had not come up. I called over the lady manning the self checkouts (short grey hair, caucasian lady in her 60’s or 70’s) I told her the sale prices hadn’t come up. She asked if I had put my number in and I said yes. Then the attitude started. I was told if I had put my number in then the correct prices came up, so it must be me not knowing what I was doing. I asked her to check to see if my phone number was in the system but she would not look. She then abruptly picked up 2 of the 7 bags and said, “Now I got to run all over the store getting prices.” She was angry and made sure I knew it. I left all the remaining bags at the checkout and walked out. I’m not going to be spoken to or treated as if I’m a bother. Sorry Safeway. I’m officially done being your customer!

We shop here EVERY week, we buy bulk fruits every week and have never had an issue before. We've always had a pleasant experience with the stock workers in the produce department! But as we were checking out this time me and my partner noticed that more cashier's started gravitating towards me and them. 1 become 4 in three minutes. Even going as far to wipe the self check out right next to us. I understand they have a job, we had a lot of money in our cart and we understand that they have to make sure we pay for everything. What baffled me is after we paid I had looked at my partner and said "now that we paid we can leave!" And the group of women huddles and started giggling between each other saying "goodbye! Sayonara! Adios!" which is quite disrespectful considering that never has anyone approached us in any other circumstance saying that we look suspicious or look as though we are stealing. The whole experience is embarrassing and horrifying.
We hope that nobody else has the experience we did, it just might be time for a Costco card instead.
*As of 5/30 it seems like they haven't made any effort to teach their employees to not racially profile their customers. Me and my girlfriend had decided to come back to Safeway as they have accessible carts for me as i have a disability involving my leg.
As we were checking out Rebecca ad come up behind me and placed her hand on my shoulder asking, "woah are you scanning those?"
Not taking a second to peak at the screen that clearly had every item rung up, or the fact the machine beeped every couple seconds indicating that I was indeed scanning my items. I never have an issue when I am by myself, we are approached when my black girlfriend joins me to help.
It is coming courtesy not to touch a stranger, it's also basic customer service to take a peak at your walkies and that the regsier I was at had items scanned like the nice young black girl that works on the weekends.

Me and another individual was racial profiled.
Around the afternoon, me and the other person walked in together. The person was a young black guy (maybe fresh out of highschool) but anyway, we checked out around the same time. However, I notice an older white lady (maybe around in her mid to late 50s) was staring RIGHT at him. Now keep in mind that there’s other people at the self checkout . There’s like FIVE others checking out… anyone could steal as they’re checking their own stuff out. I understand that it’s their job to watch everyone but no.. she wasn’t even watching the others, she was ONLY watching him.
Anyway, I come along and I’m checking my stuff out. I feel like she was definitely staring at me but then she walked away. As she came back, i accidentally scanned a product twice. The lady is literally standing right there as the light thing came on to let her know that I need assistance because I wanted to cancel the other item that I had accidentally scanned twice and she didn’t even want to acknowledge me until I looked at her. Now all of the sudden, she sees me looking at her because she’s WATCHING ME and asked if “I need help?”
She did what she needed to do so I can continue to check out but then here comes this other older white lady. Now as she was walking past me she was okay at first but then I see her trying to look inside my purse. I had already put in 2 small things that was able to fit inside but why are you trying to look inside my purse. She wasn’t actually digging in there but trying to be noisy to see what I have in there.
I notice her and the other lady was talking so then that’s when she can out of nowhere to try to have conversation with me about the type of shoes I’m wearing. Trying to poly the situation. I felt so uncomfortable and I don’t think I will ever step foot there again.
I’ve called the manger about the situation and he said he would talk to them
I’ve been to this location plenty of times during my break as a teacher and I’m just so glad that according to these reviews, I’m not the only one. My coworker even told me that he was targeted by that women as well. Smh..

I frequent this store multiple times a week and spend a lot of money here between groceries and things for our cats like litter and food. A lot of the employees always smile at you and I always see Colby’s smiling face and he greets us every-time. A few months ago an older woman stopped me as I was leaving self checkout and asked to see my receipt which I handed to her and she asked me to take every item out of the bags and place it on the counter which I did and when she saw everything on my receipt she just says thank you and walks away for me to put all my items back into the bags. This same woman today (older woman, gray hair, glasses) stood behind my fiancé and I at self checkout (literally pressed up against our cart), she moved to the side watching our every move as we scanned every item and bagged it and then the second we walked away she ran over to our machine and reprinted our receipt to check it for herself I guess, this experience just made us both very uncomfortable, we work very hard for our money and I understand she has a job to do but it just seems very targeted at this point. I don’t think I’ll be shopping at this store any longer.

For the love of ….. PLEASE ROTATE YOUR STOCK. I too frequently buy things which are expired from this store. It’s so frustrating. Otherwise, the staff is nice and the store is mostly clean.

Self service registers are very unorganized. Lines for waiting are vague and unmarked. The employees at the section do a poor job of maintaining order. Customers line up in the grocery aisle to wait instead of near the registers. There is enough room to create a Walmart style lane to prevent confusion and ensure a visible entrance to the registers.

Safeway has a great loyalty program with much savings! I highly recommend you get it and use an online account and app to optimize savings!

I used to give this store 5 stars. After what my brother experienced today it is now 1 star. He was racially profiled and wrongfully accused. After being proven wrong all they gave was "well sorry you looked like the guy earlier today" and "there has been a lot of people stealing lately." It was an embarrassing situation for him and he came home so upset. We will never be going back.

I normally don't shop at Safeway, due to location, but stopped in to pick up a few item to take to work. They had the clerical items I needed and I picked up lunch as well. Im kinda disappointed with the chicken from the ready to eat section as it was too dry for my liking. Other than that store is well stocked and very clean.

I enjoyed my experience at Safeway. I actually went there for a gallon of water but ended up purchasing Yogi tea as it was on sale and other fresh produce. The membership process was seamless and I was able to access a discount immediately.

I have been visiting this store for many years. I have had pleasant experience so far except for today at the self checkout counter. I waited right at the board that says line forms here and then when a lane opened up I went down to it. The attendant at the self checkout came screaming and yelling that there was another lady infront of me(I was right where the line started and did not see her to the side). I was taken aback for a second as I did not realize what was happening and just see a women yelling and screaming coming at me. When I grasped the situation I took a step back to allow the other person and then turned to the employee to say she need not yell at me and could have told me in a normal way for that she had I don't care attitude. I had a nice chat with the manager who said this is not the first incident with her behavior and would have a talk with her. This has been my store for years and never had this kind of racism happen to me until today hope this behavior changes. Location: Safeway at people's plaza
