Love the concept, poorly executed.
- The potterade was disgusting. By "fresh lemonade" they mean powdered lemonade with syrup.
- The breakfast sandwiches are dry and stale
- The wifi does not work! It was so slow & weak that I couldn't get any work done while I was there

I shall not patronize a coffee shop that does not offer a glass or ceramic mug option.

A great local bookstore and cafe. Came on a Sunday right after opening and it was nice and warm (in a chilly day) a few people here which made for a really nice breakfast where I could read some books and drink tea. No downsides to this great shop. They had great music (soft) playing in the background and had great seating options lining the windows (lots of light and great for people watching) and At least ten tables for outdoor seating Highly recommend getting anything with the house made biscuits. I got to breakfast sandwich with bacon and it was overflowing with egg (yum)

YOOOOO! What happened that I missed this one until now? That is insane. And I can't say because it opened very recently such that it wasn't around when I was doing most of my coffee shop odyssee...it's been around since 1960!!! And is in the heart of the best of DC, between Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan. Oh and: It is absolutely out of this world as far as coffee shops are concerned. It is combined with a bookstore--the books are strewn in the midst of the café in shelves all over the place. Lots of writer types, including those who operate with physical paper (like I said, this thing has a legacy of 1960). I had a longer chat with one of the women behind the counter. The other one looked very much like the progressive Christian type. And indeed, Potter's history is connected to various Christan houses and doing the good work for the poor in the neighbourhood. Toward the end of a long stay, a clearly very poor, likely homeless, 70-something year old white man who also seemed to have mental issues, came in and wandered back and forth in the spacious café, on occasion stopping to talk to the workers and at other times sitting in one of the chairs. He seemed to be welcome, and was definitely not shooed out. The prices of the foods and drinks are regular for the area, I actually had a meal since I came in the afternoon, and it was good (meatloaf with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. They have wifi but not on Saturday mornings (before 2:30pm) to make room for the brunch crowd. The only thing that didn't work for me: their french toast is cinnamon with a bit of toast on it :-)

In a bookstore where radical shelves entwine,
Where the employees challenge the common line.
For those seeking gifts with a liberal twist,
This haven of thought does persist.
Yet, not all find comfort within its walls,
As the majority might stumble and falls.
A place not cozy for a linger or look,
But in its corners, new worlds can unhook.

Food can use some spices, or at least salt. Great atmosphere otherwise.

love a coffee shop/bookstore vibe and that they provide meals to the community, based on donations from customers. the breakfast sandwich was delish because the BISCUT was to die for. so soft and fluffy and perfect breakfast bite

A cafe with books is always my favorite. The breakfast bowl was delicious. The staff was friendly and efficient. We went twice and would go the next time I'm in the area.
Vegetarian options: I had the vegan breakfast bowl and it was good.

The chai latte is banging, and their breakfast sandwich hits the spot. Love their mission and how they serve the community, as well. Would rate higher if I could. ❤️❤️❤️
Parking: Busy road. Don't plan to park close.
Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor with outward facing door. Restrooms on same level.
