One of my favorite stores on the east coast. A few years back I picked up some rare Pg. 99 records. Last time I was there I saw multiple Townes Van Zandt records. They also sell skateboarding stuff there, too. Downside to the last time I was there is that it reeked of weed, but that wasn’t the end of the world. It’s definitely a great shop; however, if you’re looking for more obscure or rare punk/hardcore, Joint Custody is where you want to go.

Awesome spot. The vinyl selection was about 20-25 stacks total but there's a bit of everything. Obviously the punk was the highlight but you can find plenty of cheap older albums (got a Chicago album for $6)Seems like their inventory shifts pretty regularly, so I would always recommend seeing what's available if you are in the area

The owner is a really crazy and unpolite man. Sincerely I'm sorry because the collectors need informations and his collegue is nice person. For these reasons two thing to do: or the shop sell only one disco for leisure tourists... or the owner go home if some collector enter.

A really good time. Unique record shop with some great vintage gear. Not at all cheap so don’t think otherwise.

I love this store! The staff is friendly and they have a good selection of vinyl records and CDs for such a small store. It’s one of the only places I could find that still sells cassettes (including sealed blanks!) and I’ve found quite a few of my favorite albums there. Favorite record store in the area hands down :)

Awesome spot for your punk and rock vinyls. It's a very tiny shop but the selection of records they have is really good.

Good selection, missing some popular releases that I wanted to shell out for but still a good shop.

Pretty great record store. Mostly punk vinyl, which is exactly why I came here. Also, reading the reviews and responses from the owner set me on a new level of MUST SEE. I came out with 3 classics. One of which I could never dream of finding in my hometown. Yeah it’s small, but it’s exactly what I needed on my DC visit.

I wish it was physically larger, so many gems to be found man. This record store is a part of the cities history. I visit it every time i pass through the city. The dude was helpful and cool, the one with the Skull Skates jacket patch. I hope he is working every time i come through! Some of the other employees arent so great. But hey, that's punk.

As of December 2022, this establishment is still requiring masks, during a time when 99% of businesses in the US no longer require them. What's surprising is that this place calls itself a "punk" store. Forcing customers to wear masks is not "punk". It is the very definition of conformity. I listened to punk music growing up and was an outcast all throughout high school, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that a real punk store would allow their customers the choice of masking up or not. I'm sure this record store would deserve 5 stars at any other point of its existence but sadly that is not the case now. There's even a sign out front that calls anyone complaining of the mask requirement a whining chode. Well Smash Records, I'd rather be a whining chode than to waste my time and become another casualty of society. I'll never fall in line and become another victim of your conformity and back down.

I used to go to SMASH! when I was a young teen in the 80's, they were in Georgetown then, I got them to advertise on whfs in the naughts too before they moved... My daughter just came home and told me all about this store in Adams Morgan with punk records and great clothes... I asked what the name was. SMASH! Records Amazing and great to hear they are still around... I will visit next time I am in the hood.
