The pharmacy cannot get anything correct and you have to call or repeatedly visit to actually get anything filled. Watch out for the rats when ordering at the deli

A terrible Safeway. There are no carts. There are no baskets. The fruit is unripe but also about to go rotten. Somehow the frozen food is also expired. And so expensive! I expected a halfway-decent grocery store and was magnificently disappointed. I hate it here; they are only in business because YES! has even worse produce and Whole Foods is “far”.
Self checkout is always understaffed and they don’t use all the stations.

Used to be my daily grocery store. Recent “security” upgrades make impossible. Will do just about anything to not shop here anymore. Really sad, but checkout is impossible if you have more than one person. No longer family friendly.

Dirty, chaotic, understaffed checkouts w broken self check. They have gone downhill in the 3 years I lived down the street and keep getting worse. Every time I think they’re two blocks away I should give them another chance it’s a bit worse. Expired seafood, no handcarts, broken carts, feces in the garage, random things out of stock . . . Hope corporate reads this - this location need a redo from start and if you live nearby it’s still better to go to Columbia heights giant

I don't think it's possible to have a pleasant experience shopping here anymore with the poorly implemented security processes and entrance/exits. It's a giant pain, especially if you have to go to customer service at any point for things like laundry detergent, razor blades, or baby formula. There is no way to get to customer service without an employee letting you out of the checkout security gate. Then there's no way back into the store except to walk all the way around to the entrance again. And those checkout security gates don't even stay open long enough to push a cart through. I had to interact with 5 different store employees to try to get laundry detergent that I never ended up actually getting. Smh.

The worst grocery store that I have ever been to because so many items were not shelved above the correct price tag. The sales tags had all expired three days earlier, so you didn’t know what was on sale. Some items didn’t have a price tag on the shelf under them. I spent more than twice what I would on a normal grocery shopping trip because I was shopping without correct price information. Also, they must have problems with theft because there are cameras posted throughout the store that beep when you walk past them. In addition to the annoyance of trying to figure out what items cost, there is consistent beeping in the background.

I wish this place was good or even decent, but it's not. And now security gates that don't do anything but slow patrons

Shameful, you come in here looking for stuff and you can’t find it…worst part…there’s no one to help you…literally no one…if you’re lucky enough to find a staff they either can’t help or just send you to someone else because they don’t want to deal with you…it blows my mind how the owners of these places don’t keep their staff in check and just allow them to ruin their business and their customers experiences. But it doesn’t seem like any company in America cares about customers anymore…just want the money. Came in here to do an Uber shopping trip and had to cancel and leave after wasting 10 minutes looking for help like a fool…disgusting what these establishments have become. Never me again. Like just stop wasting peoples time…if you’re not ready to run a good business just shut this place down.

Convenient location but the meat and fish here is not always great quality and restocking lately has been very sporadic. Today they were almost completely out of regular milk.
The lines for customer service and pharmacy are often long and the staff is not super friendly. I prefer the shop elsewhere when I can

Today Me And My autistic son was in our local SafeWay where the female manager thought it would be a great idea ? to approach my 13 year old kid about his service/ emotional support snake which she received a rude awakening because you never approach children. If you had something to say, you should’ve said it to me this is a huge lawsuit. Your staff needs to be trained on one to never speak to someone’s children to question an autistic child, and the parent. is clearly standing next to the child The woman then proceeds To tell my son that it is unsanitary to have this type of animal around food and I told the woman she needed to do her research on animals who are approved for autistic people or people suffering from depression. She then tried to make me feel better about approaching my son, and say my kid is autistic, ma’am I don’t care. The problem is you should’ve never approached my 13 year old child and had you asked me I would’ve given you the card but you thought it was OK to speak to someone’s child. I honestly believe you should be fired and I Definitely be taking this up with my lawyer and corporate

Edit: one star, would give zero if I could. They have installed fences that don't let you out unless you scan the reciept. It causes so much back up if the store is busy, especially given that the only shopping container they provide are unnecessarily large carts. I hate being treated with so much suspicion and surveilled while I shop, so I don't come here anymore. I've found the prices are fairer for a lot of stuff anyway at the little local grocery on New Hampshire and Farragut. What they don't have, giant does. F safeway.
This safeway leaves sale tags on items that are no longer on sale. They have been doing this for years despite all the other people on here complaining about the same thing. It's shady and so annoying. Make sure you read the date on sale tags before you grab any
sale item.
Their produce is also wicked expensive, especially for what it is. I've been going all the way to the whole foods to save money on vegetables.
They also used to have hand baskets and the smaller carts, but not any more. It's pretty ridiculous to either carry your things around the store by hand or use a massive cumbersome cart to do shopping for two people.
If you can, go to the park road Giant. It's not great, but at least it's a little cheaper and you get a hand basket.

Was a great store until Safeway Loss Prevention went absolutely HAM and installed fences, one way doors, and receipt scanners. Wonder what better ways that budget could have been spent. Gotta love feeling like you’re being watched and weighed at all times in the store. Remember Kids, you’ve never seen someone steal food and anyone who says they did is lying!
