This Maryland Avenue/ Benning Road Safeway is pathetic!! I’m grateful to Henrietta the manager that took a moment to make a reasonable difference in an absolutely mess of staff, customer service, problem/ time management and general organization. There is obviously no real leadership, but Henrietta was perfect in her conflict resolution methods and pleasing the customer who was totally mishandled by the previous staff.

The staff is so much more customer oriented and friendly! Very helpful and courteous. They actually asked if assistance was needed when observing confusion. It was definitely a great experience and a huge change for the better!

I really don't understand how this place is still open. I wish another grocery store would replace it. It only deserves 1 star because it has its own parking lot and I like the pharmacy staff. The absolutely only things I buy here are things I can't get from across the street at Aldi and I'm in a rush and can't pop over to another store without a parking lot) At the very least I wish they would install a couple self checkout lanes because their cashiers are wholly unprofessional.

Don't, JUST DON'T waste your time. The quality, availability and options of this "store", if you should even call it that, is so degrading and disrespectful. Visiting from out of town. Never again!

For the most part, I can normally find what I am looking for and it is of decent quality. While this Safeway has improved greatly it's employees lack the professionalism and just human decency that customers deserve. Of course, it is not every employee. Most of the regular employees have superior customer service. However, some of the employees need a refresher course or they need to stock because I should never feel as if I am bothering you for asking a question or needing assistance with a purchase. While I understand that the flow of customers can be a bit demanding, you can't have a scowl on your face, be annoyed in your tone and deal with the public. UH UH! #wrongoneverylevel

One of the few Safeways in the area... I have had many incidents here. Never any help around. And when you find someone you're told it's not my job...maybe they're short staffed. I was told I cannot buy cigarettes no ID...I'm in my 60's...I then asked my wife to pay for them because she had her ID. They said "no" to her because she's getting them for me! Talk about idiots then take a trip to the bright spot at Hechinger's mall. Service is so bad my grandkids hate going there. We will go all the way to Georgetown for good service and products

Just had a horrible customer service experience with Rasheda, who was working the customer service desk this evening. Of course the store is packed with last minute shoppers making sure they have everything. Majority of the people had carts full of stuff, I on the other hand had only 3 little bottles of condiments, I had no produce that needed to be weighed, no frozen food products, just some Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce. Rasheda did not want to ring me up stating that we cannot be wrung up at the customer service desk. Now if this is the case, let this rule be spread amongst your team. I was just there 2 days ago and was able to be rung up at customer service. I do find this highly irritating being as though this is the Holiday Season Nd people do not want to stand in line for 30-35 minutes with only two items when customer service isn't busy at all!!

Rasheeda's attitude was horrible in customer service ! Very rude not to mention not knowledgeable of companies rules. Through the holidays you would think service would be a little delightful! She needs to re attend customer service classes ! Will never return again

It's been a long three year battle with this Safeway. I called the corporate office because of service lines...slow with one cashier. (The managers have no power so complain to Corporate only!)... But not anymore. They have multiple lines open now. Which in itself is a major improvement. The Starbucks is a full service...an improvement. The one are that's always great at this Safeway is the meat selection. Don't bother with fresh veggies and fruits...still lacking. I don't buy boxed food so can't comment on this aspect. I do wish they had a variety of choices though.

Hands down the worst retail experience you will ever have. Produce is just shy of rotting, deli options look like where food goes to die, but the most notable aspect of this store is the employees. Without exception every single person that works here is not only slow and incompetent but they all process a truly horrible attitude. They don't care about their job, customer service or the products but most of all they could not care less about you. No matter what you think you need, you don't need it bad enough to go here. Hopefully eventually they'll tear this abomination down and start over.
