Great organization to work with. They’re online systems make it easy to get preapproval and finalize loan products right online quickly and easily. When you need to go into a branch like I did today, the experience was efficient, and the staff was very friendly and pleasant. I’m thankful for my banking relationship with PenFed Credit Union and the services they provide.

Just awful. Nice enough people, but they have no idea what they're doing. I was trying to open a trust account and they kept asking me if it was an estate. The paperwork was consistently incorrect, with the wrong tax ID. I had to make multiple, lengthy visits trying to work out the problem. In the end, I closed the account as it would have been illegal tocontinue it under my tax ID.

I had some issues with the online system glitching and I didn't trust to make a payment through their system (happened many times before on my multiple accounts with penfed).I went to this branch to make a cash payment to close out my loan that carried an 18% interest rate. I was already a bit frustrated at this point and when I got to this branch, all three tellers including Mai Shahin ( branch manager) were giving me a hard time, and telling me I got bad information from pen fed online services, and that the information they gave me was not consistent with the information the branch had. The supervisor reps on the phone told me numerous times, there were notes on my account, so when I got to the branch they would already be aware of the issues I was facing.So, instead of trying to make it right, be apologetic, and trying to deescalate my situation, Mai Shahin (branch manager) proceeded to ARGUE with me, bickering back and forth. She and PFCU are ridiculously predatory. Completely unacceptable professional behavior. She needs to go back to customer service school and re learn how to be professional and properly deal with irate members. I don't know how she became branch manager with her attitude. This review should be a lesson for her to learn to not argue with members especially when its no fault of their own. I finally saved the money to pay off my high interest loan, they want to make me jump through hoops to close my account. I truly believe without a doubt they do this purposely to extend the life of the loan and make more money on interest. PFCU claims "we are here for you", what a contradiction! I have been a member for over 3 years now, had 3 accounts, closed out 2 and I have one left. I cant wait to close out my last account, I hate PFCU. They are the worst!

On April 19th, 2023, I applied for a credit card with PenFed and I was approved. I completed the additional paper work needed along with making a deposit to meet all the requirements. Today is May 22nd, 2023 and I have NOT received my credit card.After numerous calls on:April 28thMay 3rdMay 10thMay 19thMay 22ndPenFed can't seem to get me a credit card. This has been the WORST 1st time experience with a credit union. At this point, I can NOT recommend doing business with this credit union. This is not a good way to start a banking relationship. I think I will need to take my business elsewhere at this point.Again, I can NOT recommend doing business with PenFed.

I like the service the branch location the tellers were unprofessional a lady accepted a large deposit had it sitting on desk while she checks her cell phone I stood there she looks up with impression what you need now she puts money in drawer and gives me a receipt even if no customers have employees put phone away and be inviting and waiting for a customer to walk in also I ask for checks to be order she states ok and proceeds on her phone she never ordered the checks I called 1-800 number a week later to request checks still waiting Employees even if slow your there to work not be on phone it’s allowed they will keep doing it

Penfed is an archaic, out of date, bank. First, if you use a debit card attached to your account, you can't call up your account and easily find out how much of your balance is available to spend. That's because the IT wizards put "pending" charges in another bucket that you must subtract from your available balance to find out what your "real" available balance is. This will cause you to have your card declined if you don't figure the math out first. Pending charges sit in pending for days at a time. If you have say over 10 pending charges, it's a customer pain point to determine how much balance is available. I bank at BOFA, PNC, SoFi, Relay, Wells, Robin Hood, and all of them report the actual available balance inclusive of pending charges. Wake up PenFed! Second, the bank does not auto update accounts to quickens simplifi or quicken products. You've got to download and import the transactions. All the other mentioned banks, auto update quicken products and you don't even have to go to their site, login or do anything once it's set-up. For a bank with almost no branch presence, to make digital banking so 1980's is counter intuitive and a reason to stay away. There's not one positive difference vs. the competition and a lot of negatives. Worst banking experience of all time.

About mortgages...I paid off $300,000 mortgage about 2 years ago. I just got the mortgage and note that was stamped "paid" no signatures by the bank and no date....almost 2 years later the papers show up....not a smooth operation. Don't use PFCU they don't care if you pay off your loan and stop paying them monthly interest.

They made a mistake when reversing a fraud charge at the same time they were converting from one accounting system to a new one. They put the charge back on my account and 6 months later I still cannot get anyone to actually fix it or that knows what happened to actually call me back. Their customer service reps are very low functioning and seem completely untrained. Always several transfers to someone else that I then have to re-verify with. They are a nightmare to deal with. Their banking system and mortgage/equity line system are now completely separate and don't talk to each other at all. In order to make a payment on my equity line I have to create an external payment account on their mortgage system. They also changed my equity line account number and are reporting both accounts as if I have 2 equity lines with them to the reporting agency. I have made multiple attempts to dispute this but to no avail. They say "it's right". They are completely incompetent.

Worst service and an unwillingness to honor their commitments. You can't ever get a hold of someone and there is no follow up. It used to be great but they got too big too fast and their customers have suffered
