Rebrand from WSC to NYSC was a total swing and miss. The majority of photos of the location on Google are out of date and do not reflect the current gym. Since they closed the location at Connecticut and Florida at the end of September 2023, adjusting routine to this new location has been less than stellar. There is all around less equipment, fewer accessories, and less freedom. It feels and worksout like a hotel gym.No racks for free weight plates. They're just strewn about.Disorganized dumbbell rack.ONE EZ Bar and ONE adjustable bench that ISNT bolted to the floor. They've removed many of the machines that were mainstays in the workouts of regulars. While almost all the equipment is new, it bears a cheap, hastily-put-together sheen. Many machines do not work or adjust as intended.Truly the only saving grace is the increased number of squat racks/deadlifting platforms (assuming that's your thing).WSC/NYSC is still the most budget friendly option in DC. Hopefully management takes critiques of the new location to heart and works to improve. If nothing else, the staff is incredibly friendly.

It is an okay option for a workout in the area, but since they moved to a new location, it feels like a downgrade, even though they have new machines. The layout is way smaller, everything is tight, and sometimes you can't walk between machines without tripping. It's unfortunate because the staff is very friendly and attentive.

Freshly renovated and just reopened, this gym has brand new equipment throughout. It is clean and bright (minor work is still in progress but it won’t affect your workout). The staff is friendly and welcoming. The quality of the bath products and the towels could be better though.

Stay away from WSC! I cancelled my membership just at the start of the pandemic. This was in February/March 2021. I was however charged for the months of July, August and September. They would not refund the charges and then filed for bankruptcy! The only way I received some of my money back was when I filed a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General. Again, stay away from this organization! YOU’VE BEEN ADEQUATELY WARNED!!!!!

Dont come to this gym unless you want to be kicked out for recording in a PUBLIC gym. They terminate your membership without refunding!! Unacceptable.

Cheap, but constant broken machines and terrible customer service. They've already been sued by the DC Attorney General. They charged members April dues when they were closed for COVID. And they will make it very hard to cancel your membership. This is the actual response I received when I tried to cancel my membership after they unexpectedly reopened in the middle of the pandemic (why they would require 45 days to cancel in the first place... nobody knows):As a member requesting a cancellation, we created the "45 day with no further billing." This eliminated the cancellation fee, as well as the 45 day billing window. Our local upper management, as well as our Corporate level management, worked closely with the DC Attorney General to formulate this COVID-19 offer. This offer, created in conjunction with the DC Attorney General, removes the April refund but also removes the $10 processing fee and 45 day billing window attributed to cancellations, per the terms of your agreement.

Is there a corporate number I can call and complain and get my money back about how I was charged for the month of April and then they froze my membership?

They closed down my location and continued to charge me for months. It's very difficult to cancel your membership for any reason. It's a decent gym but not worth enduring predatory policies.

Recently, Saturday 12/14/2019, a debit charge of $224.28 was charged without my authorization by WSC Colombia Heights. I called the horrible manager of the establishment to notify him of this, stating that it is in fact unlawful to place any sort of charge on a card used previously WITHOUT authorization from the card holder, even if I owe money to them. The card that they charged was NOT the card I had on file. Since WSC could not garner the funds from the card that was on file, they reached and debited a card that I had used before to purchase day passes to the club before I had even joined. Also, I tried to cancel my membership on the 15th day, which was November 3rd Sunday. I signed up October 20th. When I came in to cancel on the 3rd, I was coming to buy a day pass because I knew that I was moving soon and that I would no longer need the membership. I was not given a cancellation form. The horrible manager mentioned that this is something that the staff should have given me. I also wanted to cancel because I had actually received a late fee charge on the 13th day of my $1 enrollment 14 day free period. How can I be charged on the 13th day when I have 15 days to cancel without being charged? The horrible excuse for a manager could not clearly answer this question. He was of no assistance in the matter. I work hard for my money and do not approve. I also feel that the late fee I incurred on the 13th day was unjust and I should not have been charged. They also continued to charge me late fees even after I froze the account. I froze the account because I felt trapped into this contract with them. So, as a result, me freezing the membership was my way of trying to work with the situation. Anyway, I called my bank and filed a dispute. I also joined the class action lawsuit against them.I'm sure i'll get my money back because you can not withdraw money without authorization from the card holder even if you feel they owe you money. CASE CLOSED.

When I stopped working close by I tried to cancel my membership on two occassions. On both occassions I was told that I had to show up in person and write a letter. Because of this ridiculous cancellation policy I didn't cancel my membership. I'm guessing this policy has raked in thousands and thousands of dollars for them: make it so impossible to cancel that people just give up and keep paying. To add insult to injury, I went into my bank account today to find out they'd been charging me twice what they said my plan was valued at. I am joining this class action law suit against them, and encourage others who've been screwed by this place to do the same:

I would only join this gym if it was $5 a month with $0 enrollment... I signed up online for a day pass. I went to the Chinatown location. As I walk down the step I get a big smell of cigarettes and weed. Just what I want to smell when headed into a gym. I walk over to a man behind a counter. Me: "hi I'm interested in joining your gym and would like to check it out."Man: "okay, go check it out."Me: looks around. Looks at man... "well where is the locker room?"Man: points " over there" I'm shocked! I'm coming to YOU interested in joining the gym YOU work at! The ladies locker room was just plain dirty. Hair all over, the lockers needed to be wiped down. Just ewwwI did complete a 45 minute work out. The equipment is actually not bad and the clientele didn't look bad either. I just want a friendly, clean and positive environment gym for a reasonable coast. So I joined Planet Fitness
