This is a national treasure, make sure you see the DaVinci, it's laid out earliest works to the west and newer to the east. There are revolving exhibitions currently, Paris 1874, which brings together most of the works of art the first time Impressionist artists put on a show. Going to the main gift shop leads to the cafeteria as well as one of the coffee spots, here you can enjoy coffee in a space I.M. Pei designed with pyramids looking out as well as a fountain wall, you can see his inspiration for his later Louvre work
Going through to the east wing you'll see Leo Villarreal's light installation multiverse, which you'll never see repeated. The east gallery showcases modern art in very large very open space make sure to check out all the towers as well as the outside exhibits.

Extremely extensive.
There are mainly paintings in the main building. Honestly, there are too many to look at them all.
On the second floor of the main building, the architecture is very impressive.
You can get to the next building via a tunnel. There is very interesting modern art there. The tunnel itself is also an impressive work of art.

This museum is a peaceful place to spend a few hours. Their collection includes examples of all the artists' names you'll recognize (even if you're not an art lover and you've heard them on TV and in movies), such as Da Vinci, Picasso, Monet, and Degas. There are missing pieces that date back more than 500 years, as well as things you might not think of as art - historic furniture, for example.

A must visit when in Washington, actually if you are into art visiting DC just to see the national gallery, the Philips collection and Hirshhorn is absolutely worth it.
The gallery is easy to navigate, has brilliant Artworks and has a cool eating area, the tunnel connecting it to East Building is nice and the gift is interesting.
The East building is phenomenally designed and the spaces are picture perfect.
The rooms are chronologically organised and the number of Rodins and Degas in there ridiculous!!
The 20th century is some of the best I have seen in one place and I have been to too many museums in Europe.

Love the NGA,its collection and its architecture. What I DON’tLove is the way they hid the blue Rooster on the rooftop !
I first saw this engaging statue on a plinth at Trafalgar Square for the whole world to see and admire now the NGA has chosen to hide it. They are missing a great publicity opportunity.

High quality art collection that is a cross-section of the major collections in Europe - think of going to Madrid, Berlin, Paris, London, Dresden, Munich, St Petersburg, Vienna & Florence in one building.

The National Gallery of Art is an absolute gem. The collection is vast, featuring masterpieces from renowned artists like Da Vinci, Monet and others who deserve more credit like Bierstadt, Church and Cole. The gallery’s layout is thoughtfully organized, making it easy to navigate through different periods and styles. The architecture itself is stunning, with the East and West buildings offering distinct yet complementary experiences. The Sculpture Garden is a peaceful retreat, perfect for a stroll. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Strollers and carts are available for free. Best of all, admission is free, making it accessible to everyone. Highly recommend!

This is an enormous museum, it will take weeks to go through everything and the good thing is that they have the free tours throughout the day. We attended a 3 PM 17th century Dutch artists tour. The guide was very knowledgeable, we stopped at various artists and discussed the style and the concepts. It was also very interesting to hear the cultural and social aspects of that time. Definitely recommend to take these free tours that are organized by the museum itself.
On the bottom floor you’ll find a nice museum store. Make sure to stop by there.

It's vast. That's how I would summarize. There are endless pieces to see in every wing of each floor, and the beauty of the building is memorable. In about 5-6 hours we barely covered the West building - definitely missed a couple of galleries while going around. *I* felt the placement of galleries were a bit random, but I am furthest from an art expert. Didn't have time for the East building (modern art). It takes a LOT of walking.
