We wondered into the Earth Conservation Center on a Saturday morning and were pleasantly surprised that there was someone in the building who gave us a tour! Definitely a hidden gem in Buzzard Point in SW DC!!

Excellent place to learn for kids. I attend soccer related events at the center and the deck at the back of the facility has an excellent view.

Center for environmental education, bird recovery and community events. The center's namesake is Matthew Henson, an African-American explorer who accompanied Robert Peary on seven voyages to the Arctic over 23 years and claimed to be the first person to reach the North Pole. The center is located on the Anacostia River and features a back deck with river views. Live raptors (birds of prey) are onsite for recovery and educational programming. DC United 's home tailgates are also held here.

It's hard to see here but the ECC is still in operation. I hope more DC kids get an opportunity for education through this little known program.

Out of the way location, but an excellent place to tailgate for DC United with their avid fans, the Screaming Eagles.

Nice venue for events, good spacing that can be spiced up with decor. Decent parking on the street.

It's very easy to miss, but don't. Earth Conservation Corps' small building in near the new Audi Field in SW DC along the Anacostia building. It's clear the building is old, but the programming is not. They offer free boat tours along the river, tours, and a birds of prey event every Sunday. It's a great way to spend an afternoon with kids teaching them about nature. This crew is dedicated, friendly, and they also run the famous DC bald eagle cam nearby!
