Nobody was at the desk, after being told that there’d be a car for me after there was no car at the Union Station location despite having made a reservation in advance. Instead, they sent me to a third place. Hertz is a mess and I never got a rental car. Do not book with Hertz if you need a rental car, they have systematic policy of misdirection, costing me ~$100 in Ubers going around the city.

Not really sure why the rating was low. I had a pleasant experience. Rented 3 cars within a span of 2 weeks early December, no issues. Location is good and the car delivery was smooth. Thanks to the 2 gentlemen (Tauru & Keyshawn) and lady (Alexes) who were very helpful. One of the most convenient thing is that the car drop off is 24hrs regardless whether the office is open or not which most of other car rental don't offer in the city (you have to pay an overnight charge).

We have been waiting for 25 minutes after the start of our reservation and no one is at the desk. The kind concierge here went and checked and the Hertz employee is down in the garage. I went down to the garage to check and he told me he will be “up soon.” We are going to be late to our appointment because of Hertz’s complete lack of caring. I wish the locations were not so hit or miss. Some are great.

Definitely go somewhere else if you can. I had a reservation that I made a month early to the pickup date at this location and a few hours before pickup I got a message that they were sold out. When I called to follow up and get help in securing a new rental, there was no support to find a new car and told to go somewhere else even though a last minute reservation was more than double the cost. I was told I could get a car if I showed up then (1pm), but they could not hold a car until my reservation time (5pm). When I said I was trying to pick up at 5 since I needed it by then because of parking needs in my neighborhood, they simply said that I should try somewhere else and hung up on me before I could ask any other questions. Save yourself the headache.

I have never had such a negative experience experience with a company. This is my first time ever actually leaving a Google review but my experience was so bad, I wanted to record it. I lived next to the Hilton so I have rented from this location at least 10 times, none of them went smoothly. I regret giving them my business so many times but I continued to rent through them because of the convenience of living next door. Consistent issues I’ve had with this location: the type of car I reserved was not available,, there have been times where there were NO cars available (despite having a confirmed reservation) so I would have to wait hours for one to become available, and the staff who works at the desk is horrible - I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to pick up a car and the desk isn’t staffed at all. There was one time I waited for over an hour for someone to show (even though I was picking up my car at the confirmed pick up time on my reservation during normal business hours). The last experience I had takes the cake and I will never rent from Hertz again. First, I am informed that the car I rented is not available and they only had a Tesla. I told them I didn’t know how to drive a Tesla and didn’t feel comfortable driving one. The staff member at the desk said I could use the Hertz car she was driving so we could swap. I said fine. Second, the car she was driving that she gave me wreaked of smoke. I was nervous I would be charged for the smell so I called Hertz customer service to have it noted that the car smelled like this when I picked it up. Third and the most important, it took them almost 2 weeks to close out my reservation. What this meant was their system showed I didn’t return the car and it was almost 2 weeks overdue even though I returned it 5 hours before it was due back. Because the reservation was not closed out, Hertz subsequently charged me $100 the day after I returned it because from a systemic standpoint, the car wasn’t returned. I called customer service and they said this charge is automatic when reservations aren’t closed out and she would send a request to the location to do it ASAP. Well the location did not close out the reservation when this first request was sent and I had to call customer service more times than I can count and each time I called customer service another request was sent to the location to close the reservation. Because that didn’t seem to be working, I also emailed Hertz customer numerous times and multiple case numbers were opened where more requests were sent to the location that went ignored, Hertz customer service even tried calling the manager of the location directly with no luck. Despite the fact that customer service had sent MANY requests to the location to close the reservation , because the reservation was still open I started receiving calls, texts and emails from Hertz that my rental is overdue and I would be responsible for any applicable charges. After almost 2 weeks the reservation was finally closed out with not even an apology for the inconvenience. Corporate needs to hold this location unaccountable.

Steer clear of this location.Days before I picked up my car, Hertz sent an email letting me know that they knew that they would be understaffed.It was true, I arrived 15 minutes early and then waited half an hour for the one overworked desk person to tell me that I had cancelled my own reservation (not true).He then suggested that I go to Union Station or National Airport because he had no more cars. He was unable to help put a hold on a vehicle at any other Hertz and told me to call the 800 number.I was not the only person that Hertz treated so poorly that morning last week, as other people were in the lobby on the phone scrambling to get cars after being cancelled by Hertz.

Hertz Washington DC - Hilton Washington DC - 1919 Konnecticut Ave, NW, Washington DCWe had a 1 way hire car booked from Washington DC to Charlotte, NC at 4pm.Arrived to be told by the rudest customer service person we’ve met so far in the USA that there were no cars available (even though we had pre booked & received a confirmation email). There were no solutions provided and we were told she was “too busy” to have previously informed us that there were no cars available.I then went online and tried to book another car and Hertz appeared as having cars available for the route/day/times we had previously requested.They are a scam. Do not book through them and expect your plans to be cemented. We are now having to get a bus as a last minute car hire through another company is extremely expensive. Will not use again.Coming from Australia this is very disappointing. Hertz Australia are a fabulous representation of the Hertz brand which we have used multiple times before without any issues. This particular Hertz location is a disgrace & should not be in business as people rely on their online booking confirmation emails to lock in plans.

The day I was supposed to get my rental car I got a text that said there were no vehicles available so they were unable to accommodate my reservation. I made the reservation days in advance. I just wish they would have let me know when I book or days before I was supposed to pick up the car. Instead, I was left in a bind to find another car.

Wish I could leave 0 stars. Tried to rent a car through my insurance while my car was in the shop and ended up stranded at a body shop. I sat on hold forever and the local shop never picked up or called me after being told multiple times I was going to get a call. I never ended up getting a car from them because they never showed up.

I was there to get a rental car at 1 PM. Sat there for three hours. while associates that work there walked past me and help other people. It made. No sense to have to sit there that long just to get a rental car. Ridiculous.

Pre-paid for a car at this location a month before a vacation. I happened to call several days in advance of pick-up to confirm the details and learned that the employees had no awareness that I had pre-paid for the car and did not even have a car available anymore. In 10 calls over the next three days, the national Hertz and Dollar support lines blamed the local staff and the local staff blamed the national offices, but no one was able to provide a solution (ie, transfer the reservation to a different pick up location or provide a car at this location). After investing hours of my own time to fix the situation, I had to cancel my initial reservation and pay a higher rate for a rental car as the leave date was now imminent.Later update: as a bonus I was then charged $50 for being forced to cancel the reservation, though the representatives had confirmed that fee would be waived

Scam. Fraud. Thieves. And they have a bot replying to your google reviews as if there is any kind of customer service. You make your payment, and you receive a confirmation email but actually they don't have cars to rent. They sell what they don't own, they massively overbook. Only when you arrive there with your suitcaises, without any prior warning, email, phone call, they tell you that they don't have a car for you, and they blow up your plans. Trust the reviews, it will happen to you too with a 50% probability. Go to a serious company instead. If you rent here, you will regret, trust me.

Their system was down and they could not give me my reserved rental. Then they closed without resolving the issue for any of us. Holiday weekend ruined for dozens of people. Hertz should be ashamed and embarrassed. Unacceptable.I’m sure they’ll respond to this review at some point and say they’re sorry and they’ll look into it. Then they’ll do nothing.Update. After the response below, they did nothing.For those who care about details. I spoke with 2 different people, one over the phone, the other via messaging. They called DCA to see if they could honor my original reservation price. Apparently DCA didn’t answer the phone so they told me that they hope to hear back by the end of the day. In what world can someone just move their rental car back a day? Guess I’ll try Avis. Shameful.
