This is the closest grocery store to me and I’d love to be able to shop there without having my bags checked like I’m going through TSA when I leave. Even when security can clearly see who is paying and leaving the checkout area. No other grocery stores in NoMa make you form a line to check your receipt. Surely they can think of a better solution to theft that doesn’t involve treating all their customers like criminals.

Store is well-stocked, but the front-end experience is abysmal. Always long lines with cashiers who seem annoyed at your existence. Have to show your receipt to a kid sitting on a cooler who grunts at you before you leave. Have heard their security guards yelling slurs at people on the street. Maybe the incessant high-pitched ringing in the store is making them all miserable.

Cashiers slow and unfriendly. Overall, uncomfortable atmosphere. Surprising for a place like this.

We stopped by because my wife was nestolgic for their pizza. They don't have this store in Georgia anymore. However, in order to discourage us from ordering a whole pizza I was told it would take 30 minutes to make one pizza. She may have fond memories of this place but my first one memory will always be bad.

This was a great store, until they started checking receipts on the way out. I've been shopping here for a decade. I'm not about to be treated like a thief at each visit. I'm not coming back.

Worst customer service I have ever received, ironically it came from the CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK at the Harris Teeter located at 1201 First Street NE,Washington DC 20002.
These two African American ladies working on Saturday 05/18/2024 at 6:15 pm at the customer service desk were outrageously unprofessional and mean when I forgot my reward card at home, and just needed a replacement to shop.
It was raining and couldn’t go back home to get my card and come back. I guess they care more about hoarding rewards cards that free to give than facilitating customers to spend more.
RIDICULOUS!!
Please retrain these two women; from your employees schedules and cameras you should know who I am talking about on Saturday 5/18/24 at 6:15 PM that was at the customer service desk.
One of them has her head half shaved with dreadlocks on top and wearing green rectangular eyeglasses. The other one 5.2” maybe 50 wearing a red Harris Teeter shirt.
By the way I’m a General Manager at a bigger food retail chain and none of my employees would have treated any customers the way I was treated over a free reward card.
I just moved in the neighborhood and was excited to shop at Harris Teeter, NeVERrrr AGAIN! I walked out without purchasing anything.
DO BETTER IN YOUR HIRING Harris Teeter!

Today is Saturday 05/18/24, it’s a rainy day. I went to Harris Teeter at around 6:15 pm on First Street NE. Upon arriving I realized that I had forgotten my reward card and my phone number was not registered to the card yet. I went to the customer service desk to ask for a card and I had the nastiest, horrible, most unprofessional experience I have ever had Shopping anywhere. The two African American ladies, one with her head half shaved with dreadlocks, rectangle green frame glasses, the other one maybe 5.2 “ with braids, wearing a red shirt were so mean! They were giving me a hard time for forgetting my reward card. The one in the red shirt said I am not giving you another one! What did she want me to do? Walk back home under the rain just to get my reward card to shop? ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! I walked out without shopping.
I will never shop at Harris Teeter again and I am writing a complaint to Harris Teeter headquarters.

Got denied entry because I had my laptop bag on me and the security guard deemed it too big. Other patrons with similarly sized backpacks were allowed in. No alternative storage options provided. Commuters who use Union Station beware.

They illegally require you to show your receipt when leaving the store. Membership clubs are allowed to do this but regular public grocery stores. I've low key hated this Harris Teeter for some time but this was the final straw.

This place has the weirdest product placement, making it super hard to find what you are looking for. They do not carry a wide variety of beef. Was looking for a top round and the butcher says they don't carry it anymore despite it being one of the most popular cuts. I am perplexed. The burgers at the butcher are really good.

The manager and the pharmacists were great! They helped me find good allergy medicine and were super friendly. They even wished me a happy belated birthday. This is my neighborhood store so I always go here

by far the worst grocery store in the world. expired food, awful staff, literally out of basic items all the time. i live next to the place and walk to a giant because this store is that awful.
Also why does the fish section smell so terrible? pray to god you don’t get sick from eating their food.

The staff here has mostly been helpful and nice when shopping here, but it’s a shame how Harris Teeter has so few check outs open and overly relies on self check out at this very urban high traffic store. Expect a long wait to pay if you’re checking out a peak hours. The store itself could be cleaner, more organized, and better stocked. Sometimes streets market has more staples in stock albeit for a higher price. I would shop here more often if they’d resolve some of the issues I mention but in the mean time I unfortunately drive to suburban grocery stores since I’m lucky enough to have a car. Sadly it’s night and day between any Harris Teeter in Arlington, Fairfax or Montgomery County vs the district locations. I feel like DC residents deserve better a better store. :(
