It is what it is. Unfortunately, this is the closest grocery store until the MOM’s organic market opens up.

Really it deserves negative stars. If you are going to have a rule in place, please make sure you enforce it with everyone. Their new bag policy seems to only apply to minorities of a certain race. I noticed several people entering the store with gym bags/backpacks etc...that were not stopped. I enter today and actually seeked out the security officer to find out where I have to leave my bag, since she was not at her post. I am immediately treated like a criminal before I can open my mouth to inquire about where to leave the bag. Please, I make to much damn money to need to take anything from a store! The only reason I stopped here is because I needed a shake after the gym and unfortunately this is one of the only grocery stores near my gym. Will not frequent this location again! FYI this is a DC thing the Giants in MD does not have this policy.

We have decided to discontinue shopping at your store. I utilize public transportation to commute to work and require a bag to transport my medical supplies and government-issued computer. However, I was informed upon arrival today that bags are not allowed and was instructed to leave it on the floor. As a mature adult of 40 years, I find this policy to be unreasonable and concerning, as it leaves my valuables vulnerable to theft. I would suggest implementing lockers or conducting bag inspections at the point of exit if security is a concern. Additionally, I have observed an increase in prices and a shortage of staff working at the registers. Everyone is hurting financially but you just lost a lot of paying customers.

I just had the most wonderful experience in Giant. I rang up my items. One was a different prize than I thought. I was going to check it out and a kind employee Mr. Tonny greeted me and walked with me to verify the price. Then he escorted me to the customer service desk. The lady there Ms. Krystal was a blessing to me as well. I truly enjoyed how attentive and kind these two individuals were to me.
Thank you!!!

They started banning backpacks. They expect me to leave my work laptop unattended because they won't hire enough staff to deter shoplifting. I will be shopping at safeway or target from now on. Policy is also unequally enforced. White people were walking around the store with bags no problem yet minorities get aggressively stopped.

I was in this location on Memorial Day 2024. About 745pm. I entered the store with my Chrome industries metro mini back pack the inside dimensions are 12x13 which is under the size for the banned bag.
A woman Latrice Stevenson came up and informed me that no backpacks over 14x14 are allowed in the store and I had to leave my bag on the floor by the front door.
I said no. She then stated she would call the police. I said do what you need to. And continued shopping. As I was leaving the store, I said something to my friend on a PHONE CALL…. And Latrice Stevenson said “your mother” I stopped and asked her to repeat what she said but she froze.
Absolutely disgusting. What 40+ year old woman is making mother comments at work? This woman is an assistant manager. I asked her when the store manger would be in she said “thats me buddy” “you did your shopping now leave”
Very aggressive. There were also women in the store with large purses and reusable shopping bags. But I guess that is allowed…
Why would someone leave their backpack on the floor at the front door in store that is experiencing theft. My $3000 laptop was in the bag. How was I supposed to carry my grocery’s home if I don’t have a bag. This policy is crazy and this is appalling. The comment about my mother was way out of line. As my mother passed away 6 months ago.

Usually reserve reviews for positive experiences, but never going to this grocery store again after their new bag ban

Rude. Not sure what's going on in there. I went in after getting off the metro from work. I went to look for some pork shoulder to bbq this weekend (shocking they didnt have it). I was wearing my work bag. There is then an announcement about a bag ban and if you have one they will call the police. I think thats odd, is that about me? On my way out i get yelled at for "ignoring" security like I'm about to do a heist at the louvre. Sorry my headphones are in to avoid listening to the crazy.
Anyways, be aware (noticed a couple other people with gym bags by the way).
Also, there is no way I am going to leave my work bag with my work laptop with you. I was in last week with no issue...Trust is a two way street, you lost mine.
You dont have to worry about me, I will not be going back.

Personally, this Giant is great in terms of what's available and convenient for residents/people passing through the area. However, the store implemented a "no backpack" policy seemingly overnight. I was in the store yesterday and there was no mention of this at all, and personally I am not a fan of it. I assume it's in response to theft that has occurred in the store, but many people come to this Giant directly from work. You're telling people to put your bags on what is essentially a water jug shelf because you didn't allocate proper storage for these bags. And on top of that, you're having a security guard say verbatim, "we're not responsible for any lost or stolen items." If this is your policy, in your store, and you have security personnel, you better make sure my bag isn't lost or stolen. That just contradicts the whole point of this policy that has been poorly advertised.

I have always appreciated the convenience of this Giant store, as it is located right next to the metro stop. I often stop by multiple times a week on my way home from work. However, today I was informed by security that I am not allowed to browse the store with my backpack and that I would have to leave it at the front of the store. Additionally, I was told that the store is not liable for any lost or stolen items.
As I carry my work laptop and other essential items in my backpack, I cannot leave it unattended and risk it being stolen. Due to this policy, I will no longer be able to shop at this Giant and will need to go out of my way to another store.
I believe that under the circumstances of carrying valuable and essential items, an accommodation should be considered. Many customers like myself who commute or carry necessary items would greatly benefit from a policy update or alternative solution.
I respectfully request that you consider updating this policy to better accommodate commuters and other customers with essential items. Allowing customers to keep their bags or providing secure storage options would greatly enhance the shopping experience and convenience for many of us.

Shout out to Kandy, who today was first my cashier and later behind the customer service desk. Kandy went above and beyond, and was kind, professional and efficient. She is a real asset to Giant and deserves to be recognized and rewarded.

Bag policy is really not working for me. I shop at this Giant exclusively on the way to work, and often have my full work bag. I understand and sympathize with the store’s shoplifting problem, but you need to make proper accommodation for people’s bags if you’re going to prohibit them.
Twice now I have been asked to leave my work bag (with my laptop inside) quite literally right next to the door. When I have voiced concerns about my bag’s safety, I’ve been assured that someone will be standing next to it. Both times I have come back to find my bag 100% unattended. I will not be taking a chance a third time…

Service has really gone downhill at this location. Moldy food, no bag policy, and they mislabeled their shelves and tried to overcharge me for my groceries causing me to return my whole order. There’s too much competition in this city for them to treat their customers like this. Avoid this store, if possible.
