First let me say I am a DC NATIVE born and raised. Been here since 93. I have been going to this supermarket for YEARS and have been a huge fan of this market and item selection until today. Today I have went with my family to purchase a few items which were dragonfruit, beer, bananas, trash bags and napkins. We have had a long day and ready to wind down as we proceed to checkout we were approached by the guy in the picture below and he asked us about trash bags that were briefly forgotten at the bottom of the stroller priced for 3.19. He then accused us of stealing and I simply told him that he doesn't know what type of day we had forgot then he asked us "how you forget" and my simple reply was that we have two children that we are trying to keep an eye out for our children while still finalizing our transaction. He there told us to get out of the store although we removed trash bags from the bottom of the stroller and proceeded to still try to pay. He declined and snatched the items back. I told him to check his cameras. I also am very frustrated at this point and began to record because why would we need to steal 3 dollar bags and you are snatching back the items in front of our kids. I will never go here again and will definitely spend my dollar at another location. The video below was after he was very rude, accused us for stealing, and told us to get out. He also still refused us paying for our items and moved them to the other belt (bananas and Heineken) in the background. He tried to remain calm after he knew I was recording but this behavior toward civilized civilians was blasphemy. The lady behind us in line also witnessed this crap and was very angry at them for the way we were treated. Please whoever over sees this location take a look into your staff because I've been going there for years and have NEVER had a reason to steal anything and be treated as a criminal. Also there were about thirty other people in the store but I guess because we are black he felt the need to hover over us and single us out. DO BETTER. As of 12/27/2023 the manager has since reached to resolve issue with reasonable feedback. Pictures/videos of incident are now removed.

This is by far the best supermarket that I know in Washington and pretty much elsewhere. The staff is extremely nice and helpful, the selection is better and more various than in all the competition, even better than in much bigger markets, the prices are lower that elsewhere, and I just can get everything I can think of. Thank you for your service.

The best finds in this neighborhood grocery are the dried spices and the Latin cheeses. For basic goods and meats, it’s cheaper at nearby Giant. The staff is friendly.

Your typical neighborhood store. It will have what you need and some not typical. The fruits were fresh. I went to purchase mainly nuts and fruits. I was able to find a good variety of options. I asked 3 employees where some items were. Two of them were able to send me to the correct locations.

Great selection of ethnic items and foods that you cannot find elsewhere in DC. Prices can't be beat and all the produce is of excellent quality. Highly recommend!

Black Folks in this community always complaining about that store since their new ownship. Now I see why as of today 3/18/2023!They are very Racist's and as badly I need something I'll do without or go to Giant/Safeway. It was a long line and only one person was at the register.Spanish dude opens up another register and hollers next. So, I walked over there to be told by him. That I'm not next! So, he's still hollering Next. He's looking at the White folks at the other register. I told him they all together and he needs to mind his business. White folks turned and looked at him like he was crazy.

Shall I name the reasons I love this place? There are really too many … they have such great produce with lots of vegetables you can't find at Giants. Like big carrots and Asian eggplants. They have all Korean and Mexican essentials that you usually can't find unless you go to a specialty shop. But even more than that, they have all the nice American/European things that you need everyday, like good cheese. Also excellent meat and wine selection — all at great prices. At this point you might think I was paid to write this review, but no, I just love this grocery store near my home and I want everyone to know. To me, this is the best grocery in DC. I love you capital supermarket <3.

This is a smaller older independent market but it’s been steadily improving and updating under new ownership this past year. It’s a real gem if you live in the neighborhood. It’s a real competitor to Streets.

If you want friendly staff, this is NOT the place to go. I live in the area and come here only when I have to if I don't have time to travel to another store. The store looks great after the pandemic started. They have more expensive items though. They did a makeover on the store but not the employees. They don't say one word to you. No greeting, no have a nice day but they might tell you the price. Today it was an Asian lady and she didn't even bag my groceries. I asked her if they bag the food and she said no but I know they do. The supervisor/manager was 10 feet away and he didn't care about what was happening. Not that it makes a difference but he was Asian as well and he never has customer service either. I'm letting you know, if you go there, you probably want to avoid these two. On the up side, the Latino woman employee was very polite when I asked a question. At this point I'll go out of my way to Whole Foods. Also DON'T buy milk or eggs there. Each time I did, it went bad one 2-3 days. They know this so it says no perishable items can be returned after 2 days. Good luck!
