I'm sure this vet is adequate for ordinary care. However, I would not come here for any diagnostics. This vet diagnosed my dog with "mild congestion and old age" when in reality she had a cancerous tumor that had dropped her soft palate and was completely blocking one nostril. This vet did not even examine her nose or throat, even though her symptoms clearly warranted it. (It took another vet 1 look at her throat & nose to identify the problem.) Finally, you'll also experience an upsell of expensive tests and procedures that won't actually result in an accurate diagnosis for your pet.

RUN I've been pondering for a while on whether to write this or not and many people have urged me to do so because my experience here was so awful. I had been bringing my pup here for a couple years and May 2019 I had to let him go and opted to euthanize him due to a malignant and rapidly spreading melanoma. I took him to Adams Morgan Animal Hospital and they didn't have a special euthanasia sweet which wouldn't have been a huge issue if they didn't put us into the first room next to the lobby which also housed the clinics storage cabinet, so as we were saying our goodbyes multiple times we were interrupted by people needing to get things out of storage. One of the times it was the actual vet who didn't bother to introduce herself and just told my roommate he had to move out of her way so she could get into storage. Later when it was time she walked in asking "ready to do this or do you need more time?" The vet exchanged no niceties but did finally introduce herself as Dr. Madden. She made no effort to prepare me even after asking and learning it was my first time going through euthanasia, other than to say, "you'll want to hold onto him." And without any more explanation I held onto him as I assumed she meant but apparently wasn't because she proceeded with the injection and his body fell down and since I wasn't prepared as to how to properly hold him, he collapsed with a thud onto the table. The doctor then asked me to move so she could check to ensure "he's gone," before leaving me to my grief. When I was ready to leave, I asked that someone come take care of the body so it didn't have to just be laying in an empty room and I was told, "yeah, we'll throw him in the freezer." And that was the end.

The doctors and staff here don't seem to care much about what they do. I've never been greeted warmly and they seem like they're annoyed when answering the phone or answering questions. I seem to get attitude from both the doctors and staff. When I first got a puppy I brought her in and asked for a physical just to make sure she was healthy. Once the dr got into the room he just looked at me "What do you want us to do?" I'd never had a puppy before and just wanted to make sure she was okay. He seemed annoyed that I even brought her in. Turned out later she has big health issues that could've been easily found with a simple blood test. My dog's very small and the second time I brought her in for stomach issues with a stool sample of what was clearly worms. They didn't do any tests, just looked at the bag and said this isn't worms. They claimed she ate seeds of some kind - I don't have any plants and we'd never been to a dog park. I said, so this 5lb dog has been shitting seeds for 3 days? Took her some where else and they found it was worms. It's a clean facility and they're kind to the dogs. But once I went to Friendship Animal Hospital I realized what good care was actually supposed to be.

Every time I've come here, I've been promptly helped by people who clearly care about my animal. They are professional, friendly, and very helpful. Betsy, in particular, was able to help process a same-day emergency issue with our cat and provided extra information to help us on our way. I would strongly recommend this animal hospital for any pet owner.

Excellent care. Dr. Boone is knowledgable and compassionate with his care to my 16 year old pug/beagle mix, and has cared for him for 5 years since I first moved to DC. He takes the time to explain the readings and his diagnoses, and recommends treatments as he would his own pet. Practical, and never overprescribing.

I've used Adams Morgan Animal Hospital for almost 10 years starting with my previous beagle, Jackson in 2011. I wouldn't take Odie, my current four legged friend, anywhere else. Both Dr. Boone's are friendly, thorough, and take the time and effort to make sure I understand the treatment options and path forward. It's a partnership for my beagle's care. Also, huge thanks to Betsy, the office manager. She is amazing.

Unprofessional, sloppy, borderline unsuited to practice, if not certainly inept . I scheduled to have my pup her teeth cleaned, and since she had has a growth in her law, one that she had had for years, with no growth not any discomfort, it was suggested we remove it while under anesthesia for the cleaning. Sounded like a minor nip, I have had a benign growth myself, awake and with minima recovery or discomfort, so seemed simple based o. What I was told and my own experience. Turns out not simple at all and with serious risks. Not only did this clinic fail to disclose at ANY time that the additional "nip" was almost $1,100 more than the cleaning fee unexpected of $500, the Adams Morgan Animal clinic - animal being the operative word given how they operated on my pup - also failed to explain the severity of the procedure and recovery. As if that was not bad enough, upon my return the day after the surgery due to eBay seemed indeed severe post-surgery swelling and serious meds, the also failed to recognize they their handy job - see for yourselves - was preventing any blood flow to her paw, prohibiting healing, slowly killing tissue, and risking her developing gangrene and losing her paw altogether. Think I exaggerate? I am now at Friendship Hospital, professional, caring, and extremely knowledgeable animal clinic, where Lucie is undergoing a second surgery to fix the mess of the first.

Dr. Boone and his staff have taken very good care of my fur babies, and I have been very happy with the service here. Big, clean waiting room with a water cooler and coffee for waiting humans. Dog treats for the doggies, but no such luck for the cat types. Doctors and staff are patient, empathetic and good with the animals. The front desk staff has ranged from incredibly warm to incredibly aloof, but I think that's just the nature of clerical workers these days. My one complaint is that they don't offer payment plans, and the costs for these things can really add up. My old vet would let you pay in installments if you needed, which provided much-appreciated financial flexibility. There's a few steps you need to go up in order to get in and a sort of narrow set of doors to maneuver, FYI if you've got your hands full and/or disabled animals that are hard to handle.

I would advise going elsewhere. They're not terrible but they're certainly not exceptional in any way either. It's worth it to travel a little further to another vet. We used them for about a year and a half since they were walking distance to our home. We were never once greeted warmly by the front desk and definitely never exited with a 'have a nice day' or even a goodbye. The doctors and back staff are adequate, they definitely never did anything to harm our dog, just provided basic service in a very non-exceptional way. Now that we've tried others, we realize the gap in quality that we dealt with all those years and we would never go back.

Highly recommend this local vet. We used their services for 18 months until we moved away, and the staff were always friendly, knowledgeable and patient with any queries we had.

Recently moved to DC from overseas. My dog started having stomach issues. I started her on a dewormer medication round. When I went to the vet just in case, the tech shamed me for starting dewormer meds for "no justifiable reason". I tried to explain to her that this was a common routine treatment even for humans where I had lived before. They told me to stop with the dewormer and gave an alternative treatment. Several months, hundreds of dollars later, and only temporary improvements, I took her elsewhere where she tested positive for worms, was put on dewormer treatment and was fine after. I felt dismissed and wished the tech would have taken the time and patience to listen
