"It was just my imagination Runnin' away with me" (The Temptations) Imagination Art Skill Creative Vision Entrepreneurship All of these human talents and attributes collide big time inside the massive Whiting Mills Complex. Here you'll find artist studios, shops, businesses and classes occupying an ancient brick factory building to transform it into a center for artistic, community, and social events. There are close to 60 tenants inside the complex - artists of every description, a photography studio, specialty shops featuring kitchen and bath items, candles, baskets, silver creations, clothing, jewelry, stairs and woodworking items, health and well being products, even a ferrier selling horse shoes and horse supplies. I love the way that so many old cities have reclaimed old mill buildings and gave them new life using this model. You will definitely enjoy wandering the long hallways and exploring the shops inside Whiting Mills.

Lots of really neat makerspaces and shops. It is difficult to navigate if you have any trouble walking. Steep narrow stairs, lots of steps. They have a freight elevator which I guess the public can't use so if you can't do stairs very well you're only going to see a portion of the place

Whiting Mill is a fabulous place to visit if you are visiting Connecticut's Northwest corner. The talented group of artists working here represent a wide variety of styles and there are unique little shops tucked here and there. The only thing missing is a cafe! The Whiting Mills restoration is just gorgeous. These old mills are such an important part of the region's history, and it is wonderful when they get a second life. The mill is especially lively during open studio events, but if you visit mid week or on non-event weekends, it is quite atmospheric to explore and stumble upon artists quietly working in their studios. This is a unique destination in the interesting town of Winsted and well worth a visit
