They are all about the MONEY! I have been going to Schulhof for 25 years and my recent visit will be my last. Our 2 year old dog was peeing, incontinent for a day but in no obvious pain whatsoever. When we brought her in they proceeded to do x-rays, ultra sound, general check-up, an inhouse urine screening as well as sending urine samples out to be tested. Everything came back negative except for a a slight crystal build up that they said could be treated with us buying their over-priced dog food. They even wanted me to buy pain medication for our dog who showed absolutely no signs of being in pain. 5 days later she was still peeing and they said its probably a urinary trac infection and gave us an antibiotic that cleared it up in less than a day. I called them with my overall concerns and had a testy conversation with Christian. I explained that I thought the excessive testing and a charge of $750 was egregious especially when you sent me home with no diagnosis until a week later with a simple antibiotic cure. I have absolutely NO confidence in in their fair medical care. Interestingly, Since then I have spoken with others who have also left Schulhof because of their very expensive, charge for everything costs and incompetence. Read similar reviews.

I have nvr been thru a vetting process like this. The owner/ofc Mgr is as overprecautious as his new patient reg form sent thru text. This is really a WAIVER identifying you, animal, aggression, and protecting themselves from any unforeseen circ. After I completed the waiver, they wouldn't let me make an appointment w/o medical records. "Their policy" of not taking walk-ins, I was looking into a derm issue and another docs visible opinion and not spending time looking thru other notes the owner assured me that they don't need any more business, they are not interested in helping a stray. He's been working fine in the capacity on the post road for decades

Moved to Connecticut a couple years ago and fortunately found Schulhof Animal Hospital to give my Yellow lab a special treatment. Can’t say enough about how attentive and caring all the staff and vets are. Dr. Westerfield is extremely knowledgeable, informative, and understanding.

Moved to Connecticut from Southern California and couldn't find a place to give a specific treatment to my 12 year old Yellow lab - fortunately I found Schulhof Animal Hospital and the thoroughness of Dr Westerfield really opened my eyes to the difference between a vet that looks at your dog and as long as they're eating and drinking tells you that they're fine - and a vet who will give you the physiological facts and advise you of the proper care and treatment needed to increase your dogs health and happiness. Can't say enough about Dr Westerfield and her staff. Westerfield is a mix of a modern brained vet with an old school heart.

Feel extremely disappointed and let down by this practice that has been treating our dog for the past 11 years, at a time when he needs them the most. Everything was great when the dog was young and we were spending a lot of money on his care ($1200 dental cleaning/surgery, $700 echocardiogram, every blood test and X-ray). Things changed drastically when the dog started to age and having problems. That’s when I started to feel that our intentions towards the dog’s care diverged and my feelings and love for him were being manipulated. As soon as I indicated that we were not going to do any serious interventions and were focused on making the dog’s last years, months, days the most comfortable and dignified, giving him the life that’s worth living, they became very busy and unable to see him or help him feel more comfortable. They also assumed a very judgemental, patronising tone about the choices I am making for MY dog. I feel completely alone, abandoned and betrayed by this practice at this very difficult time, when we have to make hard decisions. When they take on a new puppy patient they are signing on to see him through his last days, same as I am. So I feel this behaviour is very irresponsible and unprofessional. Being married to an entrepreneur, I understand how business and capitalism work. But I also know that care and commerce cannot coexist. If your priority is to make a profit then you should probably do something else. Reading other reviews on here it’s clear that I am not the only one with this kind of experience. The glowing reviews seem to be from people who have not yet reached the late stage of their pet’s life.

I have solid trust in this establishment, based on their great abilities, top doctoring, caring staff, they are outstanding and professional.. deserving of a 5 star. They cared for my Cat Willow while she had Cancer. I still am very grateful. Your pets are in good hands.

I moved to Minneapolis last year and am struggling to find vet care like this out here. People leave nightmare reviews about visits, clinics seem profit oriented etc. My partner's family used to go to Schulhof for their family pet, so it was an easy choice for us when we rescued Ellie three years ago. There is so much good to say about this clinic and the people who work here. They are transparent about care and pricing; I've never felt taken advantage of. When my baby had an infection during COVID last year, Schulhof was SO responsive, texted us about her care (love this!), asked for photos, and treated her immediately. Since we'll be moving back to CT at some point and make frequent visits back home with the pups, we'll continue coming to Schulhof for primary care. I give up trying to find a comparable vet out here - it doesn't exist. You'll meet Winnie (right in photo) for her first visit this Christmas!

When our dog was bitten by another dog, we called Schulhof. After all, they have taken care of our two dogs for many years. The operator told us everyone was very busy, he could not be seen, that we'd better take the dog to the emergency hospital. No time to have even a quick look at a dog they are following... Very poor attitude from people supposed to care for our dogs, who also groom them every month. Don't try to go if your pet has an emergency, wrong vet office. But the beauty parlor activity is second to none.

Please DO NOT GO HERE! We brought our 8 month old dog in to be neutered. We expected a routine procedure, and it turned into a nightmare that's still not over. Our dog came home on Friday (24 hours after the procedure) crusty and smelling awful but they were very clear in their oral and written instructions that we should not bathe him. The smell grew so bad - smelled like rotting flesh - that we called Monday to have him seen. We were told they were too busy to see him. They told us we could come Tuesday and see a vet tech. Immediately when we brought him in Tuesday, they knew something was wrong and called the doctor in. An hour later, our dog was returned to us. The smell was gone. They claimed that they just cleaned the area, but the incision looked completely different and they had clearly excised skin and re-stitched the area. They also prescribed TWO antibiotics although said that everything looked good. At that point, after this secret second procedure, our puppy developed a limp on his back right leg. We brought him back Tuesday night as he was in a lot of pain, refusing to walk, crying when he moved. They said the limp was nothing. They also blamed us and accused us of taking off the cone. We never took off the cone and he was too lethargic to care about his incision. He got worse Wednesday. Then when he woke up Thursday morning, his right hind leg that had developed a limp was swollen to 3 times the size of his other legs. At this point, we realized negligence and incompetence were at play and brought him to an emergency vet. He will be hospitalized for at least 48 hours and might need further surgery to correct whatever was done incorrectly. This has been a heartbreaking and disastrous ordeal. Do not go here. Please learn from this story and choose another veterinarian!!

I am not a client of this place, but my wife's Aunt has been going there for around forty years. I have taken her there a few times and have always been impressed with how nice everybody is. They not only care about the animals, but their owners as well. I have no problem recommending them to anyone who wants their pets taken care of in a fantastic environment.
