Dr. Westerfield is the consummate veterinarian with the smarts, compassion, & passion for her work. She has been caring for my cats through all stages of life with the upmost thoughtfulness & brilliance. I cannot say enough about how much my cats & I have appreciated her care. As a social worker I have experienced how important she supports the entire family not just the cats.

They are all about the MONEY! I have been going to Schulhof for 25 years and my recent visit will be my last. Our 2 year old dog was peeing, incontinent for a day but in no obvious pain whatsoever. When we brought her in they proceeded to do x-rays, ultra sound, general check-up, an inhouse urine screening as well as sending urine samples out to be tested. Everything came back negative except for a a slight crystal build up that they said could be treated with us buying their over-priced dog food. They even wanted me to buy pain medication for our dog who showed absolutely no signs of being in pain. 5 days later she was still peeing and they said its probably a urinary trac infection and gave us an antibiotic that cleared it up in less than a day. I called them with my overall concerns and had a testy conversation with Christian. I explained that I thought the excessive testing and a charge of $750 was egregious especially when you sent me home with no diagnosis until a week later with a simple antibiotic cure. I have absolutely NO confidence in in their fair medical care. Interestingly, Since then I have spoken with others who have also left Schulhof because of their very expensive, charge for everything costs and incompetence. Read similar reviews.

Moved to Connecticut from Southern California and couldn't find a place to give a specific treatment to my 12 year old Yellow lab - fortunately I found Schulhof Animal Hospital and the thoroughness of Dr Westerfield really opened my eyes to the difference between a vet that looks at your dog and as long as they're eating and drinking tells you that they're fine - and a vet who will give you the physiological facts and advise you of the proper care and treatment needed to increase your dogs health and happiness. Can't say enough about Dr Westerfield and her staff. Westerfield is a mix of a modern brained vet with an old school heart.

Please DO NOT GO HERE! We brought our 8 month old dog in to be neutered. We expected a routine procedure, and it turned into a nightmare that's still not over. Our dog came home on Friday (24 hours after the procedure) crusty and smelling awful but they were very clear in their oral and written instructions that we should not bathe him. The smell grew so bad - smelled like rotting flesh - that we called Monday to have him seen. We were told they were too busy to see him. They told us we could come Tuesday and see a vet tech. Immediately when we brought him in Tuesday, they knew something was wrong and called the doctor in. An hour later, our dog was returned to us. The smell was gone. They claimed that they just cleaned the area, but the incision looked completely different and they had clearly excised skin and re-stitched the area. They also prescribed TWO antibiotics although said that everything looked good. At that point, after this secret second procedure, our puppy developed a limp on his back right leg. We brought him back Tuesday night as he was in a lot of pain, refusing to walk, crying when he moved. They said the limp was nothing. They also blamed us and accused us of taking off the cone. We never took off the cone and he was too lethargic to care about his incision. He got worse Wednesday. Then when he woke up Thursday morning, his right hind leg that had developed a limp was swollen to 3 times the size of his other legs. At this point, we realized negligence and incompetence were at play and brought him to an emergency vet. He will be hospitalized for at least 48 hours and might need further surgery to correct whatever was done incorrectly. This has been a heartbreaking and disastrous ordeal. Do not go here. Please learn from this story and choose another veterinarian!!

Let's start with medical care. I called them with an emergency--my dog had a visible, painful infection. Front desk staff says "sorry we can't see him for a week." I said "Imagine if this was a human. How wrong would that be?" She said nothing other than, "we are just so booked with well visits. Mayb take him to the ER if is gets worse." Not seeing an existing patient with a medical emergency in less that a week? That's medical negligence. Luckily, another Vet up the road where my dog wasn't even a patient at the time saw him the very next day and gave him the medication he needed. Grooming. This is the worst of the worst. Monica gives a good haircut, no doubt about it, never had any issues with that and in fact prefaced all my grievances about their process by saying that, but they keep your dog for SEVEN hours, many of which are spent in a crate, unnecessarily. If you aren't going to start cutting a dogs hair until noon or 1:00, don't have people bring them in until then; no sense in demanding they be dropped off at 7:30 when the groomer herself doesn't show up until 8:00 and they won't even get to the dog until lunchtime. Moreover, every time my dog would leave there, he would walk out the door and immediately do huge #1 and #2 as if he had not been out at all during the day, and then come home drink a huge bowl of water and sleep for the rest of the day, as if it was the most anxiety producing, possibly inhumane, experience of his life. When I called to express my dissatisfaction with this system and try to find a workaround, this money-hungry business (see other reviews--they are ridiculous with their charges!) only suggested spending $50 additional on an already $160 haircut so that he could be in and out in a few hours, or, even worse, "medical sedation." FOR A HAIRCUT!!!! Again--no reasoning with these people at all. I asked 3 different times to speak with Monica, the groomer. Not once did I get a phone call from she herself, other than them (Dr KEn, specifically) calling to cancel my dog's upcoming grooming appointment because they "can't provide a satisfactory service," almost laughable when the groomer herself has never tried to rectify this, and that the satisfactory service I'm requesting is to limit my dog's visit there to, say, four hours instead of 7 or 8, because that's just cruel. Luckily my new groomer, who wasn't even accepting new patients, felt so upset about the way Schulhof treated him that she took him on as a customer, sight unseen. Lastly boarding. Unless you can get to the facility to pick your dog up on shulhoff's specific time frame, you can be in the situation that you can't actually bring your dog home for two days. I guess there's not always someone there. Which given that it's a medical facility--also concerning. They did site covid as an excuse for this, but there is absolutely no reason that someone can't be there on a Sunday afternoon to get dogs back to their owners and their comfortable homes where they belong. Worst business I've ever visited. Unprofessional people. Extortionate prices. Inhumane treatment--most Importantly of the animals, but also of their customers who try to find ways to make their insane and inflexible policies work.

Love Dr. Westerfield. 5 out 5 for her. Been bringing my dogs for 15 years at this point. However, the rest of the practice is a mess. Between the front desk not updating records. Sending correspondence to the wrong people. Charging a $130 curbside fee (and when my dog had to get injections 2 weeks apart- that became $260 in curbside fees- I about had it). Transferred to a new Vet and got a ton of work done and was afraid of the bill and when it came back it was a fraction of the cost.

Very expense during Covid. They charge $125 for a curbside visit whether you get one shot or a physical done! That seems very high. I have been debating whether or not to stay with them...I think I have my answer.

I love Dr Adam and his staff. They are very gentle with my dog and take the time to assess the issue. I especially like the fact that they offer a free first visit if you have rescued your pet. The staff is always friendly, they get you in quickly. I am very happy with the treatment my boy gets.

Be warned that they will charged you exuberant fees on everything, including applying ointment( $ 30) when your dog has ear infection. I went there to have my puppy for a general check up, they suggest diff kinds of vaccine including for lyme and I agreed, they said he will need to come back for the 2nd shot (lyme booster) The doctor check his ears and said he had an ear infection, they prescribed an ointment and showed me how to apply, when i got the bill, its $ 30 just for applying the ointment! They suggest to go back for the lyme booster shot after 2 weeks, and then charged me again for an office visit again ( $ 91) plus the lyme booster shot! that's ridiculous, I won't be bringing my 2 dogs there again.

Very disappointed!! This place came highly recommend by a friend of ours however we are very disappointed.. we started coming here about a year ago and for routine visits shots and not urgent matters they were great the front desk staff was excellent quick and polite BUT when you having urgent matter this is NOT a place to go both times when i brought my sick dog i was charged over $500 and was sent to Emergency Vet Hospital as they couldn't diagnosed my dog or they didn't have required equipment such as ultrasound to perform necessary tests seriously?? so then u stuck going to another vet and paying once again for visit and necessary test which your regular vet couldn't perform ! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! they have no problem charging you for nothing because u r left with no diagnosis no answers - my last and final trip was this summer when i came wh a dog who was ill for 3 + days not eating , vomiting with history of taking NSAIDs i informed the vet of possibility of stomach ulcer formation but i was quickly dismissed and sent HOME with antinausea medications, no f/u call next day NOTHING next morning I had to take my dog to Cornell he was diagnosed with stomach ulcers within 20 min of my arrival and treated immediately!! Really SCHULHOF ANIMAL HOSPITAL- you couldn't even diagnose a simple matter as stomach ulcer especially if your client is giving you all the information!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

I take my 3 Persian Cats here for grooming regularly. I do not do any lion cuts. Monica is wonderful at brushing the mats out and making them look beautiful even if she has to resort to cutting out one or two. They always come home looking fabulous and happy.
