The food has gotten decent. The service is not with a smile and very slow. Literally 30 min to get a drink ordered from the server. Not enough staff. They all seem pretty miserable. The prices are too expensive to be worth it. Avoid it on busy nights on the patio.

Absolutely amazing place for visiting !

They would be providing better customer service if they just shut down the kitchen service to beach area. Had problems this year and last year. Extremely unorganized and inefficient. Unreasonably long waits. Not enough staff at beach bar, beach kitchen and not enough staff waiting on people at beach or cabanas.

The staff at the front desk are so rude. It's unfortunate because the pool staff are wonderful. But, unfortunately I can't rate the service higher because multiple people at the front desk had a horrible attitude. The rooms are dated. The grounds are very nice. Not sure if I will be back because the customer service is non existent at the front desk. You are a nuisance if you ask for anything and are met with an attitude.

The scenery, food, and service set the stage for a lovely 70th birthday celebration for my godmother. The pictures speaks volumes. I look forward to coming back to experience Water’s Edge again and again.
Food & drinks: Wonderful buffet featuring fresh seafood, prime rib, omelette and pasta stations, salads, fruit, desserts and more!

We have been coming to Waters Edge every summer for almost a decade. Unfortunately, this will be our last stay. Not sure what happened lately, but the service has become absolutely appalling. At arrival the front desk basically called me an idiot when I asked them for an ETA for check in. Never have I been treated so badly by staff that is supposed to be welcoming. We will take the advice of some other reviewers and spend our money at Madison Beach Hotel next summer.

This review is in regards to my spa and restaurant experience.
I received a gift card to this resort and decided to use it while my friend from Chicago was visiting town.
I called the morning of and the spa was able to fit us in the same day. Because we were going to get services from the spa, we were allowed for use their indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna as well.
When we arrived to the spa, we checked in and were brought to our lockers to change into robes and sandals. Then we were told to hang out in their relaxation room or use their amenities while waiting. First, the relaxation room is far from relaxing. Some of the chairs are quite uncomfortable. It is a little too bright for my liking in there as well. Further, when we opened the door to enter the relaxation room, there were so many people there. Even though it says to low voices, it’s hard for it to not get noisy with so many people in that small room. In addition, the “relaxation” room is just a small room with a well stocked Keurig, fruit flavored water, some fruits, and Nature Valley granola bars. There are a couple boring magazines for you to flip through but no relaxing music or even aromatherapy. It kinda felt like a waiting room in a doctor’s office when the esthetician/massage person would walk out yelling your name.
The facial was great. I really enjoyed the person who did it for me and I felt it was very relaxing. My skin also looked noticeably better. I got the Vitamin C facial.
I paid for the facials. It was over $300 for two people. I expected that but I did not expect the included gratuity. I already had the intention of tipping but I don’t like being blindsided by such matters. Maybe I didn’t read carefully but I didn’t see that gratuity was included on the website or when I booked my appointment. Further, when you book your appointment, you have to give them a CC number in case you miss your appointment. You are charged 100% of the service if you do not show up or cancel in time. I think that’s kinda crazy!
Anyways, afterwards we used the amenities which were lackluster.
Truthfully, although I was not impressed by the space, I was enjoying my time. After we used the steam room and showered at the spa, we decided to grab dinner at Dattilo’s.
I asked the hostess for a table for two and was told to “have a look at the menu because this is a fine dining restaurant”. I was stunned and told her I already looked at the menu thank you. She then proceeded to seat us outside. I didn’t think much of it until I realized at the end of dinner that that only people seated outside were my friend and I and this group of teenage girls.
To be fair, we had just showered, with wet hair because the hair dryer at the spa did not work. We were in quite casual clothing as we were only prepared for the spa. But I’ve shown up to way nicer places looking way worse to be frank. Could it be that we were both POC?
Further, Dattilo’s is far from fine dining. I mean, I see the attempt and maybe in the bubble of this resort it is, but my spicy margaritas did not come out salt rimmed like it promised (making it lack any spice element) and the salmon was dry. Chicken piccata was edible but kinda weird in my opinion. The only good thing about dinner was that our waiter was really kind and personable. The gelato was good too. But come on, how could you mess up a scoop of gelato.
Sigh, it’s unfortunate that the hostess said what she said because I probably would let a lot of things slide. But come on! This is apparently fine dining baby!
All in all, not a fan.

The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. The staff were friendly. However, our ocean view room with a balcony was blocked by the roof of a lower floor and our bathroom was crawling with ants! Also, our room was located over the bar/restaurant area. The DJ music was so loud our room was shaking, this did not stop until after midnight. This room should NOT cost the same as the other “ocean view” rooms if you need to try to look around the roof to see the view. And for the price there should not be ants in the bathroom and then found later in the bed! When we tried to report this there was no one to speak with at the front desk and no one answered the phone either.

Been here three times in the last year but this will be my last time. Too many nicer spots in CT including Saybrook Pointe Inn. Dated Rooms, Horrible customer service from everyone except the beach and pool attendants, The Front Desk staff might be the rudest in the State. A once proud resort is now a shell of its old self and only caters to weddings. Terribly disappointing Waters Edge.

We absolutely loved this place! It is beautiful and peaceful. The spa was nice and friendly. The restaurants had good food. The landscaping was spectacular. We so enjoyed the sea, the sunshine, and the people watching. Indoor pool and hottub were great. Highly recommend!

Really dated property even in the suites and the team has no sense of hospitality. I woke up to no hot water and their solution was to have me waddle down the hall in a towel at six months pregnant to shower in a different room. I brought it up at checkout to see if it had been communicated and the woman at the front was super rude and said yep! And handed me the receipt for the full balance without so much as a were so sorry. I can’t imagine any other hotel doing the same. I was here on business but wouldn’t return because the experience was not what you expect from a group in hospitality

The staff here are wonderful!
One of their managers needs to find another line of work! After checking in to this wonderful resort, I tried figure out how to access the beach and pool areas, absolutely no signage…I wandered, apparently too close to the “back of house” area,
A guy with a fantasticly coiffed mullet told me I didn’t belong here…, I was wearing a T-shirt and O’Neill surfing shorts…
I’m sorry for the awesome staff that have to work for a guy who couldn’t serve or lead his way out of a paper bag…
One manager made me feel unworthy of this place within 30 minutes of checking in..,
Despite poor management, your staff made me feel welcome, Americans like them make me feel like 29 years service in the Marine Corps was worth it,
.You really need to fire mullet man, your people are awesome, he isn’t adding one cent of value for your staff or your business.
Rm 301 has a great view!
