10 Main St, Essex“Usually I'm not one to linger in places from my younger years; they sadden me and remind me of inevitable change which interfere and modify my memories, but not only did I slowly drive down the old Main Street but stopped! Why? Well, the old supermarket I remembered had an eye-catching window display of paintings! Tastefully displayed, and just enough to intrigue of inner door treasures. I went in. Was greeted by a most delightful, pretty and intelligent woman (who I later learned was Pamela), the gallery keeper. The store still retained that distinctive odor old buildings, especially taverns, old houses, and old grocery stores posses. On the white, well lit walls were the paintings and prints. A wonderful selection to suit any preference. Several caught my eye, and Pamela sensed my interest. Told me that the actual artist of this print was in the back of the store, framing his latest oil. I met him, Nathaniel Foote, talked a bit, and bought it, now signed on the back. It's rare, in my experience, to encounter such friendly and informative people anywhere. I am planning on returning to purchase another piece which also caught my eye. Incidentally, Essex seems to have persevered relatively well...my old handout bar across the street was still there. Guess returning to the past has it's rewards. Rob't Garthwaite”
“Came in on a rainy day to this sweet surprise! This small shop has an arrangement of decor, gifts, handmade jewelry, and even children’s toys! I wish I lived closer so I could come by more often but to those who do, take advantage!”
“The employees at this store are fabulous. I've been watching a chair on Chairish for months, and it was finally reduced to a really excellent price. They held it for me until I could get there today. I guess I wasn't sure how big it is, but it's HUGE. It for sure didn't fit in the back of my SUV. so the employees managed to get fit it in with just a small portion protruding and bungee corded it very securely in my vehicle so I could make the seventy mile drive home with my new purchase. Thanks so much for the effort. I'm thrilled with my purchase.”
“My friends and I came to the Lyme Art Association while walking and exploring through town. There were so many beautiful pieces, and more exhibits than I was expecting! The woman in attendance gave a wonderful overview of the art and artists, and made us feel very welcome.”
