Kevin helped my Surfside Veterans get mattresses, to 7 veterans at a veteran home in west haven, these veterans where so happy that they finally were able to sleep.

Customer service really ruined this experience. The first thing said to us was “Are you guys going to be long” which felt rude considering the store didn’t close for another half hour. Selection was good but when we went to check out he had already closed the register. Mind you we were only in the store for about ten minutes before he decided he was going to close the register with potential customers inside.

Terrible customer service. They need to fire the manager Edwin Alvarado. He sold us a bed and a headboard. I’m working on a major job for an elderly client. At the store he told us that the headboard was able to be installed to the bedframe. Well now we’re here trying to install the headboard to the bedframe before my client comes home because she has no place to sleep and she’s elderly and the headboard does not fit on the bed. We called the manager Edwin Alvarado pleading for help. We asked him if he had an iPhone so that he could just get on the phone and show us how to install the bed. He said yes he has an iPhone but he refuses to get on a FaceTime to help us install the bed before my client comes home from the hospital. Instead he wants us to take the entire bed and headboard all the way back to railroad salvage which is ridiculous. He should be fired and his customer service is terrible. Any type of good person would’ve gotten on the phone for a five minute FaceTime to help us. He is a rotten human being and he should be fired !!!

I usually shop at big name stores.I decided to go to railroad just to kill time and I finally found something that I loved.When I walked in I was greeted by a young lady and within 5 minutes she was back there looking for me to see if I need help but I already found what I was looking for.I will be back there again and I highly reccomend them.

When I was young my mother loved this store she would go there and I would roam around their store thinking it was just the coolest place with all the different items they had and furniture setups. So of course now being a mom of a child about the same age 9 years old I brought my son to their store which looks amazing I have to say and he definitely loved all the displays and loved roaming around all the amazing amazing amazing amazing items.. check this place out it's awesome

This is my go-to place for Window Treatments!!! YES, I said "window treatments" which is the fancy term for curtains LOL. In that department, Railroad Salvage has never failed. They have sooooo many to choose from. They vary greatly with some being modern and some looking like theve been there since the store opened. They definitely have the gamit of styles covered and Most are reasonably priced. Then there are the little touches to make your house a home, like rugs and pillows, or the many forms of decorative art inside. I've never actually purchased any of the furniture so I can't speak to the quality but It looks good and They offer unique as well as classic styles. In recent years, they have cleaned up and discarded many of the older odds & ends that were probably there since I was born. That was part of what I used to like about this store; finding useful things from the 70/80/90's that are no longer made but still were useful. But also cleaning it up, did make the overall store look better... Told a house rehabber about this place and he didn't have a clue. Most people just don't know. It doesn't have the fancy bells & whistles, or the fancy lights or sign to draw you in. All I can say is that if you know, you know! I will always try to support a family business over a big box store any day!

Great store with nice furniture, also has some great artwork and a discount section. I would have bought a couch set if they were willing to give me a slight discount which i ended up getting else where for the same set. Worth a trip if you need furniture though

Kevin, the manager, and Nicole helped me purchase a beautiful sofa for my living room. They were very friendly and helpful. The store has a LOT of options from affordable to more high-quality furniture. Don't be misguided by the name or outside look, this place is a furniture store gem. Highly recommend.
