I inherited 3 valuable clocks, none of which worked, and none of which had been touched for at least 50 years. I dropped them off with Jim Standish who did a remarkable job of assigning the proper loose pieces to each clock and then getting them all working. What was particularly helpful was how Jim carefully explained what I had, what they were worth, and the provenance of each. This knowledge gives me a lot of options moving forward.I could not have asked for a better transaction, a better price, or better service.PS: Great place to buy an unusual clock as a gift!

I rarely post anything negative about a business. However, my experience with Standish Clock & Watch Shoppe was so unbelievably bad that I feel compelled to do so. I purchased an antique Hamilton pocket watch several years ago from this merchant and brought it back for repair in January of 2022. I was told by the owner when I left the watch that the repair "should not take long" .Months went by without any word from Standish. I called asking for a status and was assured that the repair was underway and should be completed shortly. I asked that they call me when ready.More months went by without any word from Standish. Again and again, I called and got the same promises that the repair was to be completed and they would notify me. Again no word from Standish just the same old lies.Finally in December 2022, I called again, after they had the watch now for 11 months, I was assured, but again, that the watch was going to be "put on the bench" and given priority. Again, I asked for a call when ready. Again, no call. Again, nothing.I decided to give them time and waited until May, 5 more months, again with no word from Standish.Today, 16 months after I gave them the watch for repair, I went to their store and asked for the watch. It was not touched! In fact, the owner had to go into the basement to find it.The owner offered no explanation, no apology, nothing.Long story short, my advice and painful experience is do not deal with this merchant. Honestly I don't know how they stay in business, but hopefully this "Buyer Beware" will help someone unless you want a lot of agrivation, zero communication and no solution to your need for reputable repair.What a deplorable waste of time.

Mr Standish is an excellent clock maker.Most of the clock repair people in greater Hartford have retired or passed so be prepared for long waits as there are only two open shops in the area.

Absolutely first-rate! I bought an old clock secondhand and am amazed at how well Mr. Standish was able to bring it to life. The cost was very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Standish clock and watch shop is in my opinion the best clock and watch repair service in Connecticut. I have gone dozens of times as a fellow aspiring clock maker and every time, regardless of what owner james Standish is working on, he will pause whatever he is doing to help me with my issue. His son repaired my great grandfathers watch band which now looks and functions perfectly. Overall I would simply say the workers of this place are kind, respectful, and always willing to help. If you are in need of clock and/or watch repair I recommend Standish clock and watch 100%.

"Confusion that never stopsClosing walls and ticking clocks"(Coldplay)What were we to do with our unwanted non-working floor clock from the early 1980's?I made a few inquiries to find someone willing to take it off our hands. Those efforts were not only unsuccessful, but were downright discouraging. "There's no market for them", "nobody wants them", "there's a lot of them still out there", and "if its not an antique it has no value", were some of the responses we heard.So imagine my surprise and delight when I contacted Chris from Standish Clock who was interested, asked for photos, and made me an offer to come haul it away and pay a very fair price, He said he's be here at 9 AM, and by 9:04 I had a check, and he had it disassembled, put it on a dolly, took it down the stairs to the driveway, and whisked it away.His parting words were "we'll try to find it a good home."Thank you Chris and Standish Clock & Watch for a fantastic consumer experience.
