Great compassionate care! They saw my kitty quickly and discussed care options with me... Very reasonable cost compared to the urgent care estimate...I bring all my cats here !

I wasn't planning on leaving any sort of review, but I just received an email from The Pet Hospital of Stratford asking me to leave a review to help boost their office. So, here goes... After being a client of The Pet Hospital of Stratford for 14 years, I left their office due to the lack of compassion, support, kindness, and assistance they failed to show me and my cat. From the rude front desk staff (not all, but some, specifically, Delshonda), to the poor hours of operation (closed on Saturdays) and feeling like we weren't anything other than a source of $$$ for them, it was long overdue. My (now) elderly cat was suffering from a UTI that reached her kidneys. Blood work was taken and I was told that it would take 5-7 business days to find out what type of medication would be needed to cure the infection. For anyone who has ever had a UTI - did you wait 5-7 business days before starting medication? That's ABSURD! UTIs are incredibly painful. No one (animal or human) should be made to suffer for a min of 5 business days before providing some sort of relief. (By the way, the vet that we switched to provided an antibiotic immediately which cleared up the infection). Also, with this infection, Dr. Guiliani stated that once we knew what type of bacteria caused the infection, there were only 2 possible types of antibiotics for it and both come in pill form. I reminded her that my cat cannot take a pill and asked if the medication could be compounded into a liquid. She stated that she didn't know and that the office would have to call the pharmacy to find out. Ok, fine. However, she then wanted me to pre-pay for the medication even before we found out if the medication could be compounded. WHAT??? I told her no, I wasn't going to pay for a medication until I knew that I could use it. It wasn't unusual for them to ask for money, as they will not do anything without being paid in advance. Here's a typical scenario: Blood work done - sure, I'll pay. Then, a phone call the next day that they want to add on another test - cost is $xx. Is it ok to order? I say Yes, they say OK - what's your credit card information? Believe me, I know that all tests cost money, but this is literally the first thing out of their mouth. As I said, we've been clients for a long time - but that doesn't mean anything to them! My cat was on IV fluids as she was a little dehydrated. I was given a bag of fluids and instructions. They told me that I would need another bag in 5 days or so. I called on a Friday at 4:30 to say that I was going to stop in on Saturday morning to pick up the new IV bag and I was told that the office is closed on Saturdays! WHAT? Since when? Why didn't anyone tell me this? Why didn't anyone mention this when they told me that I would need a 2nd bag? Or, better yet, why didn't they just sell me 2 bags to start? Ok, I said that I'd drive over after work and that I'd be there a few minutes before 5. I was told that it would be too late. The Dr. was already gone for the day. I asked what should I do? I was told to go to the emergency VCA in Shelton for help. They made it sound like I could just go there to pick up another bag, but when I called the VCA, I was told that wasn't the case. My cat would need to have a full exam, and then, if the vet there determined that IV fluids were needed, I could buy them. Approximate cost? $225 for visit. I should've listened to my gut years ago. Even my cat hated going there. Every time I would bring her there she would hiss, growl, and hide. I thought she just hated being examined. Lo and behold, we've been to her new vet 3x already and she doesn't make a peep when we're there. She's the same love bug that she is when she's at home. All these years she was trying to tell me that she didn't like it there either. Please, please, please. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. Somewhere where your pet will be loved-on and taken care of and you won't just be an open

Thank you Dr. Giuliani and your entire staff for the many years of compassion and care for our Skippy. You contributed to his long life, just shy of 18, and we are forever grateful. You will always be highly recommended by me.
