The customer service at this location is horrible!!! Everyone at the front desk is rude and the afterschool director doesn’t even do her job. Good for nothing

Make sure the director is around when you cancel; or that they don’t lose your cancellation form, or then they’ll tell you that they’re changing you for two more months!

The major section of the pool is always reserved for students and you will be in a lane with 4 more people with barely any place to swim. The staff also takes breaks at random time. I was asked to leave the pool between my swim. Disappointing Service!

I really gave it a try but it is not worth the effort. It is frustrating that we’re trying to support a local organization, but there is no interest from them to do anything to deserve that. The facilities are not taken care of, you don’t feel a commitment from the staff. If you try to call, there’s not even a system that put you call through someone. They are closed when most facilities in town are open, even when they are supposed to be open. I believe the sponsors of this YMCA should put their money where is of real impact to the community. We deserve better from YMCA

Overall good 3 years despite increase on Membership prices, facilities close during rains snows, holidays. Locker-room quite often full of dust. After last 2 month without active check-in, Y I charging me twice for the cancelation, desk is not really cooperative.

At best? Extremely poor business management. At worst? Predatory practices that dance the line of illegality. This club refuses to cancel policies in any format but a written 30 day notice in advance of your termination date. Lots of gyms do that, but not many just ‘forget’ to send you the paperwork despite multiple requests. I’ve been trying to cancel since June and this weekend is Octoberfest. I asked for this over the phone 3 times, via email 3 times and in person twice. I was told, in person, that I couldn’t receive the cancelation paperwork because there wasn’t a supervisor working at that moment. On all three calls I gave and confirmed my mailing address, since they refuse to allow you to email the form. On all three emails I sent them asking for the form, I didn’t get a response. It’s taken nearly four months and today a supervisor promised it would be handled. But will it get done? There are other gyms in Stamford, and this is not at all what I’d expect from a YMCA franchised business.

It’s very unfortunate that a city of this size and wealth has the most unprofessional staff. The life guards have been scraped from the bottom of someone’s shoe. I was a life guard in high school and college and it’s shameful to see them on the cell phone. I took a video of me pretending to be dead floating and they never even noticed. I’m a triathlete now, qualified for nationals and I’m just so disgusted with the lack of professionals. I’ll try to work with the leaders of the ymca to help turn this around.

I really want to make this pool work- I wanted to support it for being a Y and location and I like the front desk staff and it’s convenient and a great price. It’s an ok pool the facilities are definitely dated but if you want a pool to swim in it works great, with lanes always free. Unfortunately they cannot keep staff or staff are not on time or do not run the pool well. They are late for their shifts so getting up to be there for 6am opening and you have to wait or they now close the pool every 45 mins for their ‘breaks’ which means if you are doing longer swims you have to get out and wait for them to finish their 15 mins on the phone next to the pool.I wish they could sort the staffing issue out. The guard sat on his phone while we wait for him to finish his break ?

I used to work at the Stamford y for 8 months as a swim instructor and lifeguard. At first it was great for a while. Then after a while I ended up having to to be a lifeguard and swim instructor all by myself which made me uncomfortable. I didn’t like having to wake up 5am just to open the pool especially when I am not from Ct. Worst of all, I had a coworker who would open in the early morning that would either close the pool right when I show up and I have to open the pool back up, or I get yelled at. The environment is just really hostile and close minded. C.O of the Stamford y is not open to changes or doing anything to improve and grow the facility. What made it worse is after 8 months, my aquatics director left and left with promises that he didn’t keep. He even kept the early morning lifeguard woman that is clearly an unprofessional lifeguard. The Stamford y put me through a lot of stress and turmoil that I don’t need while I was finishing college. This facility caused me not to trust or apply for other facilities for a few months and before I finally got my water safety instructor certification. On the other hand, Kadie, Mary Jane, Kai, melody, and one other lifeguard I used to work with on Friday afternoons were really nice to me and gave me great advice. Shoutout to them and I hope they are doing well. Please please make Kadie the aquatics director for the Stamford ymca? She deserves this role more than anything and dedicated her craft to helping children swim.

I swim 3 days a week. And usually can get a Lane right away but there are times when I must wait. They need to expand their swimming hours. I hope they decide to reopen on Sunday soon.
